Old Houses Holding On To Their Features

Why do old houses last longer? There are several factors that have allowed these old homes to last for centuries; superior raw materials unimpeded energy flow, and air flow. The materials these homes were built with had a higher potential to store water without failing, and could dry out easily due to the lack of insulation and air flow. Why abandoned houses are called haunted. Historically, since most people died in their homes and the funerals were held there it became the place for ghosts to haunt, with bedrooms being the most common rooms to be haunted. Many houses gained a reputation for being haunted after they were empty or derelict. Here are some houses that look haunted. Music from #Uppbeat uppbeat.io/t/simon-folwar/th...

@@shirehill9815 pretty awesome, thank you for watching.
This is very sad. I wonder why they didn't sell it? My mother has a civil style house from 1896. It takes her, my sister and myself to keep it going. It seems like there is something wrong all the time. My mother loves the house and we are fortunate we can help her with it.
A couple was trying to buy it and restore it but the owner had it destroyed, very sad. Thank you for watching and for your comments.
@@UrbanEyeAbandoned your welcome!
Beautiful craftsmanship. Really sad to see it in such bad shape. Thankful that they want to save it!
Thank you for watching, the house was restored in 2023.
It is a great example of Victorian era architecture . Houses that old are difficult to maintain for a variety of reasons. Great architectural features made with the best materials and workmanship are almost impossible to recreate today. The high cost maintenance on items like the roof the plumbing and electrical as well the keeping the paint updated are the main reasons these old houses are sometimes torn down. Another reason as a single family dwelling it cannot be run without an army of domestic servants that are very hard find these days.
Thank you for watching and for commenting.

What is the cage looking feature on the floor underneath the glass stained skylight? 1.06
From the main floor to the top of the house is an open circular balcony on each floor with a stain glass skylight at the top. The cage part is the ornate frame that holds the stain glass over the top of the opening so that light can shine down on it, the design can seen all the way to down to the bottom floor. Thank you for your question and for watching.

It. shouldn't have been let to Decay The State of NJ. should have stepped in ... Decades ago and restored the House 🏠..& rented it out for Special Events & sight seeing tours ... That would have paid for the cost of repairs ..eventually... and then make a profit for the State ...😮. Just my opinion

You’d have to sell a lot of beer to build a home like that but even more to afford restoring it. It’s a shame it was allowed to decline.

My heart sank at first, but then was happy to see the mansion will survive.
Thank you for watching, thankfully there are still happy endings out there for some of these beautiful places.
.you did not present the years or cause of decay. It appears that incriminate electrical lines were added along walls (not restoration) w/the peeling paint from not being heated (for a length of time). Also, floor surfaces are uneven at the plank edges indicating a moisture problem. The world was moving so quickly from the late 1800's its understandable how these enormous mansions became obsolete for the next generation as interpreting and building a home is of that moment/era of time. By 1940, 84 years ago, these homes were totally out of demand/favor for most home buyers.... except "us" here today.
Thank you for watching.
Stunningly gorgeous then, even among the decay of age, and just as stunning 😍 ✨️ now!! The entrance into the grand hall took my breath away and the floors were magnificent. Why do we not build buildings like this anymore?
increased construction costs associated with the labor-intensive nature of such intricate detailing, a shift towards modern architectural aesthetics that prioritize functionality over ornamentation, and the readily available building materials that are more efficient and cost-effective for contemporary construction methods. Thank you for your question and for watching.
Thank you UrbanEye, Excellent job on getting the black/white before pictures, then vacant then now. Yeah proud to see mansion is on Register & even better in use. @@mpojr it is a museum and a historic landmark being maintained. With it offering tours it will most likely stay in its original status to give a glimpse of that time period of history. It looks like someone planned to restore by taking all the furniture to a different place. Then replaster and paper the hallways. LOVE the gold bedroom!!!! Then paper the rest of the rooms Floors look good. Exteriors look great, they can wait. Would love to live there. Great library. Mine is "scattered" on all the walls, but a single room would be lovely. I'm a tad old to take this on. Still working on a 1940s building for 30 years. Neverending. Won't leave 30yrs of garden tho.
