Everyone seems to be under some delusional mindset that Marvel has only been shit in the past 5 years since Endgame. It has gone completely toxic now with "the message" and all the perverted politics inserted into it, but the MCU always had more shit or mediocre films than good ones.

You’re absolutely spot on! It’s a great irony of the series that the central theme is corporate malfeasance, the very same thing that ruined all but one of the sequels! I do think people are too reverent about Ridley Scott - he hasn’t made a great film since Blade Runner, and think of the multiple stinkers: White Squall, House of Gucci, Black Rain; and especially The Counsellor.

As soon as David Fincher (was it him?) touched the series, he bloody destroyed something that was beautiful... Every sequel was a total flop, starting badly with 3 and eventually terrible by Resurrection. HR Giger was probably rolling in his grave after the butchery that Hollywood treated his creation to in the end.

Prometheus was the most interesting thing that happened to the franchise with all the Engineers lore and stuff, and they completely ruined with that Covenant flop. I still hope we are gonna get a true sequel to Prometheus one day, and that Alien 5 movie by Bloomkamp too.

Prometheus is a bad ALIEN movie but a "good" sci-fi flick.

The problem with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant was that they sucked all the cool unknown stuff and the “worker class under siege by the uncaring cruelties of the universe and their bosses simultaneously” thing while also portraying the character who were seeking out this information as idiots who deserved to get dunked on for how stupid they were. The tone of the entire thing was “get a load of THESE guys trying to FIND OUT STUFF??? they shouldn’t have even TRIED” and while the audience agreed in theory, the unfortunate truth for Scott is that we all were perfectly aware that he was the one WRITING the damn thing. He made the characters do the stuff they did, and then punished them for it, when nobody does a single thing the audience can relate to and barely anyone to root for, while dumping lore reveals we would have preferred remain unwritten. the contemptuous tone ends up creating something that, in a very basic sense, is in poor taste. Like, it TASTES bad, much in the same way as the hand wavey “sequel reset” deaths of Hicks and Newt, but more abstractly. We can point to those two characters and say “we liked them, and you just acted like they were unnecessary ephemera that you needed to push away as fast as possible so you could try to repeat earlier emotional beats instead of building on what got established.” But there’s nothing like that, not exactly, for Prometheus, because there aren’t loveable characters being killed, so we can’t anthropomorphize the problem so easily. The writing has the same hamfisted contempt for ideas and concepts we treasured, though, and treats them as just as unnecessary. In that sense, it remains about the horror of an uncaring universe imposing a horrible reality on our treasured illusory one, proving our inability to prevent our suffering from a greater power, it’s just that now it’s not transportative. it doesn’t illuminate new perspectives by allowing us to think about it differently, it leaves us in our seats watching a lousy movie that exists because of corporate greed and the overindulged egos of detached overcomplimented auteurs. This too, is well tread territory for the franchise, so nothing is gained, not even some sort of awakening to La Revolución! edit: actually this franchise DID finally teach me how to fully embrace the idea that I’m allowed to decide when a piece of serialized fiction ends for me. Alien and Aliens are too good, so I just… decided that I was gonna allow that to be MY ending, in that I don’t have to stop imagining a future for Ripley’s found family just because Alien3 said so. That’s just… a lame timeline that never went anywhere cool, so I’m under no obligation to consider it. When it’s all fiction, stories can’t be ruined by later stories unless you allow them to. You ALLOW art to have real estate in your mind and heart, it is a PRIVILEGE for the artist to access your feelings, despite whatever ego-poisoned nonsense rantings you may hear from overcompensating insecure artists on the subject. If you don’t feel that a piece of art is treating your mind and heart with the respect those spaces are due, you are under no obligation to continue to host the offender.

I will be in the minority and say that AvPR is very good when the focus is on Wolf hunting the Xenos, also the Disney+ version of the movie is lit better or maybe i'm imagining things. Anyway, great content guys, keep it up and hopefully there will be more Alien and Predator content!

Joss whendon was absolutely right... He wrote a great story ..3 was a decent enough story too.... It was just made wrong... just like number 3... If it had been made with the integrity of the first 2 it would have been great.

the amount of love and detail in films like this are whats lacking from the modern film industry, theres very few film makers that havet hat sort of mentality. most are trying to makea political statement or trend chase so hard they have no creative soul of their own

It's kinda said when you become an adult and over time realize movies more often than not aren't magic or lightning in a bottle but corporate products to milk fans for money. And that characters not returning or so usually never has anything to do with what's good for the story it's usually some kind of dispute behind the scenes. There's still great stuff being made (I hate when people go on like "back then everything was better"), especially streaming shows, but franchises like Alien, Terminator and so are just less than shells of their former selfs. Fortunately they become less and less profitable at least.

Predator 2 is criminally uderrated and IMHO almost as good as the original. It has no business being named in the same sentence as every other Predator sequel/spin-off.

We need a TVTropes epithet for IP that began as arty and atmospheric, then got run through the industry mill so many times that it turned into self-parody.

Prometheus gets a bad wrap imo, often being disliked because it bares the blame for taking the place of something that we were led to believe existed by misleading advertisements and hype; the memory of that experience and thought stigmatizing the film. Certainly it is a unique film, which is precisely why it is going to fail to be great in the same way as another film but if you can separate that bias from your mind you might find a respectable and fun movie; as opposed to being an example and confirmation of what made Alien/Aliens so great. Prometheus can be both a terrible Alien film, even a terrible horror film or sci-fi epic and still be a great film, as long as you don't require it to be those things. It is frustrating to hear the same criticisms over and over again, that are more a complaint that one film is not another film which is a different discussion.

Aliens is interesting, because when you think about it at a surface level, it sounds awful. Ruins the danger the Xenomorph presented in the first film. But then every time time I watch it, I never feel that way. It was just executed so damn well.

I like them all. Even the one w Danny McBride. The first one is the best IMO. Love live Alien 👽

The hybrid from Alien 4 is one of the most terrifying creatures in cinema history. That thing makes me almost shit my pants every time I watch that movie. I will never understand the hate it always gets.

Love all the Alien movies they are all great with different twist to them it's peak space horror sci-fi movies it's different in every story seems like some stupid fans want a repetitive story for the first two movies (same as what James Cameron didn't want to do btw) and then when it gets boring and the franchise goes into shit and fails they going to make a video like this. Prometheus and Covenant were great telling different new story in the same universe and no David didn't create the Xenomorph so chill

C'mon. They're movies. Entertainment. Don't treat the sequels like they were ever going to live up to the first one. The fact that two classics came out of the franchise is a bonus. Could have just as easily been a turd. The third and fourth installments were't that bad. Prometheus was cool, and is my third favorite of the bunch. And while no one really asked for Alien: Covenant, it was fine. Not great, not horrible. The bar was set pretty high by the first two, let's be honest. Comparing sequels to the original is low hanging fruit. Fish in a barrel, so to speak. This kind of video is low-effort.

Personally, I imagined the 'jockey' were the commander of the crashed ship. Different race that coexisted with the xenomorphs. Then, perhaps his crew got overrun by accidental stowaways, like tge humans had, or he was busy dropping a bio-weapon like the Chinese, but crashed. Loads to explore on those lines.

Sharp decline? He's been a yoyo for years... I can't predict if his next movie will be decent or trash.

I would say the movie ties back to multiple mythologies, not just Jesus. They definitely leaned into that a bit. It doesn't really change my opinions on the films either way tho.

Predator 1 and 2, Predators and Prey are the good ones. We don't talk about AvP 1or 2 and we especially don't talk about The Predator, what a piece of shit movie that was.
