I was in my 20’s when the matrix came out. The animatrix came out in the uk before the USA because I had it and watched it before reloaded came out and I was massively disappointed. Also I agree that the matrix within a matrix theory is not supported by the movies or the animatrix.
I have seen people try and explain the vampire thing in the later matrix movies... The common consensus is they are "emotional" vampires. They want to suck emotions out of people. That is what's going on with the bizarre dinner table scene and why Trinity can use a kiss as as a unit of currency to trade for Neo's rescue. Probably one of the most ridiculous versions of vampires in all of film history lol What also confused me to no end in matrix resurrections was how the audience was expected to believe that movie clips were scenes from a "video game". Does Lana Wachowski not know what video games look like?
I always took it as to the other characters they are seeing gameplay or cutscenes but to the viewers and Neo its clips of the previous movies from Neo’s perspective.
Listening to this shows me how such an intelligent and complex film could be completely misunderstood by teenage boys. The Wachowskis didn’t do anything terribly original with that first matrix movie. There were some revolutionary video effects, but all the themes and concepts have been done before and either movies, television, or some form of literature. Whatever sense of style the Wachowski brothers had in the late 1990s must’ve been cut off when they became the Wachowskis sisters. It’s pretty clear that after the second movie they had no interest in making more matrix films but the money was on the table. So they made a third film, that was very flawed and despite with a lot of right wing types, like to think the public never really understood what the matrix was all about. At least not from the point of you of the Wachowskis them selves. The matrix is a movie about transgender‘s. No wonder the romantic scenes. Have such terrible dialogue between Ne-Yo and Trinity, and what do you think the fourth movie was going to be some groundbreaking new concept of the matrix? Nope! What we got was a very wealthy, trans woman who has spent the last 30 years partying, big-time coming back to something purely for the money when every other project has failed miserably. The meta-commentary about Warner Bros. studio shows to stay not only for the matrix concept, but for the fandom. I’ve seen these films several times since they came out, and the love story was a big part of the second film. Now the whole thing seems kind of pointless.

The Resurrections trailer was easily the best thing about that movie. Max disappointment.
