It was fairly good or even very good (depending on the day) at the least it respects the original and builds upon the Predator mythos in an entertaining manner.I rewatch it as much as any other alien/predator movie.
I don't think Predator 2 gets the respect and appreciation it deserves. It's just as rewatchable as the 1st imo.
I think mister Intel is disappointed that his boyfriend (Swartzenegger) wasn't in the sequel 😅
It's not as bad movie as they love to all say it is. It's not great, it's just good, but it's noting as horrible as the 2018 one.
Danny Glover joked around too much in that movie and ruined it. That's cool if you love it but the general pubic do not and all the joking around is why. It has an awesome start, though, dark and gritty, until Glover starts doing a comedy bit for a straight hour.
The tension was NOT there. It was clearly a cash grab riding the coattails of the first movie. But in comparison to everything that came afterward, it's a masterpiece.

It's a God awful mess of a film and what I noticed is most people who think it's good are typically people who were young when they saw it in our old now and nostalgic for it. One of the few things my dad and I seemed to both enjoy was 70s-80s scifi. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Aliens, Predator 1 & 2 at the fancy theater, The Last Stafighter, Krull, Flash Gordon at the old-timey little theater...tbh about my only good memories with him. Almost forgot Spaceballs 😂Dad almost laughed

Scientist here… that clip you showed of Gary Busey to show how unhinged he was, uhhhh, that’s not gibberish. He accurately described the most perplexing challenge in theoretical physics. In fact, our inability to find a theoretical framework to merge general relativity and quantum mechanics is still _the_ “holy grail” of modern physics. What’s more remarkable is that the clip was recorded long before the modern internet, which leads one to believe he had to either be reading some level of scientific papers on the topic or was consulting with experts in the field. 🤷🏻♂️

One time, for a first date, a dude took me to AVP. I spent the next 3 hours getting progressively more drunk, rating at him about why and exactly how bad it was. Point by point. No other topic would hold my attention. Poor guy.
The feeling I had after watching Terminator: Dark Fate was worse than that. I felt sad, not because the movie was sad, but because I was that damn disappointed. I would imagine I'd get the same horrible feeling if I ever watched the new star wars movies, but I aint doing that.Just wish they'd stop making movies based on franchises I loved growing up.

Notable 2nd though was Bill Paxton working on his comedic sidekick role which he took to insane level in Aliens.

What's good about the movie? A B-Level, almost C-Level acting cast that simply sucks compared to the original. A bland setting. Bland story. Pretty much everything is boring.
There's a good reason why it was a BO failure and the 30% rating on Rotten checks out as well.

Predator, Predator 2, Predators and Prey were are great. Alien vs Predator is ok, AvP Requiem was mixed and sadly The Predator was a disappointment. There is so much potential with the Predator movies because you can have a variety of time lines.
Exactly! I'm of that exact opinion though I hold the 1st AvP a bit higher than "ok" only by comparison to later installments as well as the creative introduction of lore that isn't "phoned in" for the most part. However, I felt the same letdown over the latest solo Predator specifically but not limited to the overused CGI. Practical effects are part of the franchise allure all the way back to the first film. I've heard rumours and rumblings around how they've always wanted to do a project from Yautja Prime and I think that would be sick as long as they didn't just animate everything to death. Still though, Predator, P2, Predators, AvP and Prey are the cannon I selfishly keep in my own Fandom 😊 I actively choose to ignore the rest and hope that whichever installment comes next doesn't take a Tremors turn focusing on the murder/hellhounds or something dumb.

the preds were our gods, they made the pyramids, they made the aliens as training enemys. and at the end all the aliens escape out of the mayan pyramid in the rainforest into the world. but in the movie they destroy them in the arctic and thats that. complete waste of a story.
preds would come back to clean up the aliens, working alongside the humans, which is where the respect thing comes in. we changed from sacrificial prey to being hunters capable of taking on their own training beasts, making them equals.
I'm watching this after the death of Carl Weathers. RIP Dillon. Godspeed dear sir.

I actually prefer Predator 2 to the original.
The lack of reoccurring characters is the precise thing predator has over aliens and Terminator. The latter two bring back the stars to nonsensical fault, there's no reason so many t800 skins should look and sound the same and there's definitely no reason Ripley should keep returning most egregiously as Ripley8.
Having a different cast everytime actually builds the predator world BETTER than the others two crutches do
Take anything and 'What If 'it - that's what I'm seeing today since creating new takes more work than adapting. What if Native Americans . . . What if . . .
Really don't understand why they bothered bringing Ripley back so many times, there's so many more interesting things they could've done with the concept

I actually LOVE Predator 2. It's my favourite of the series because it just doesn't let up. It grabs you by the balls and twists for an hour.

Loved the 1987 movie a lot and always just had a wild hunt for the uncut Predator 2 that was many years banned in my country, Predator 2 is a very great movie that doesnt deserve the backlash it got. Predators was incredible and interesting. Still enjoyed the Predator since its better than everything Marvel has put out after endgame and far from Home. Prey i have to watch since it wasnt avaible on physical media until december this year. And yeah i hate Streaming Services with a passion.😜

The TENSION in the first Predator was suffocating. Excellent way to keep the audience on the edge of their seat. Everything afterwards was just watering down the original. Then it became a Marvel movie.
Dutch didn’t “set off a final trap”…it was the Predator being in the wrong place at the right time. That was the weight to the snare trap.

I’m glad to hear so many of the great details of Prey were credited here. It was refreshing after getting worn out by Star Wars and super heroes to have a smaller stakes story featuring characters I’m not familiar with and a nice series of payoffs towards the end as the fight with the predator loomed on. I enjoyed it so much I watched it twice; the second time with the dub and indeed is really cool to watch that way.
Kinda funny that the people behind Predators thought they were above Predator 2 yet went on to make a movie with 3 of the most inept predators in the franchise. And when you realize that the predator in Prey was beaten by a teenager, you start to understand why they would want human DNA in The Predator 😂

I've never understood the hate for P2.
You can easily compare the first two Predator films to the first two Terminator films.
Both first films are slow and methodical, creating tension, but not lacking when it comes to the action.
Both sequels turn up the action and leave behind a lot of the tension that made the first film great.
Yet T2 is somehow praised for being the better of these sequels?
I personally don't think T2 improves on the first film. It's just flashier.
Whereas P2 takes the premise of its previous film and changes location to somewhere that is somewhat relatable and therefore creates a scarier setting.
I would absolutely watch a film where all dialogue is in Komanche.

Predator, like Alien, has thrived through extended media and not through the films. Which is really lucky since AVP, AVP2 and The Predator were enough to kill off any interest for good.
Yeah it’s kinda surprising that Prey got made at all considering they had already spent such an absurd amount of money rewriting/reshooting the crime against humanity that is The Predator (which we decided may be the worst movie we’ve ever reviewed on the channel.)

Predator and Predator 2 are the only real Predator films. The only two with any real grit and any real balls. All else is dust and air.

I remember exactly where I was when I first saw Predator. I was home, alone with some 'shrooms, and had both Honey I shrunk the Kids and Predator just from the rental store. Burned into my brain!

predator 2 is as good as predator 1 just different, to still make a great movie after we knew what the predator is after the cloaking device etc..... is genuis... it's easy to make an alien 2 movie since even if you know what the aliens xenomorphs are you can still make a great movie ... not so easy with the predator character creature
I think they had/have equal potential. Aliens introduced a military force, a bunch of them and the Queen/hive. Predator 2 had the new weapons (net gun, spear, risk) and clan, plus showed they they have been hunting humans for at least 200 years.
Predator 2 is criminally uderrated and IMHO almost as good as the original. It has no business being named in the same sentence as every other Predator sequel/spin-off.
Those scenes never could have been shot on set, had to be outdoors, no building can hold that much testosterone and steroids.
We had it so good in the 80’s and 90’s, didn’t even realize it or dare believe it’d end…. But here we are.

At least Predator 2 was on the right track.. everything else after that was absolute toilet, trying too hard to reinvent itself. A Predator 3 movie should have stuck to the same formula of the first two movies.. Predator comes to Earth during the hottest seasons to hunt the biggest game in the deadliest conflicts. Predator 3 should have been set in the Middle East during the Iraq or Afghanistan invasion.. throw in some Jinn mysticism mumbo jumbo amongst the local natives and the franchise would have stood a chance to keep its credibility.

On the dvd I have, there are two audio tracks to choose from; one with Arnold and one with an American dude doing Arnie's voice.

For my first time in experiencing the franchise, I was glad to have inexplicably turned on Predators (2010) right after finishing Predator (1987). 2010 is an extremely solid follow-up to 1987 in a way that most of the other sequels couldn’t quite live up to

The original was revolutionary for it's time. Still holds up. Predator 2 was a great concept and could've been awesome but it was poorly executed and ended up being unintentionally hilarious but still had some cool moments. The Rodriguez Predators was actually pretty badass despite copping the original a little too much and a few other missteps. But it was still well paced and interesting. The comics and books are pretty decent for the most part. Everything else is godawful.

Alien series had the same issue with weak scripts in the later films but at least there were two amazing movies. I liked P2 even thou it was a bag of cheese. Prey was more to form.

Prey is the best story since the first two films. The prequel idea should be further explored for sure.....a film set in the Pacific islands during WWII or even 70's Vietnam would be very interesting.
Sure prey had it's issue's but over all yeah I liked the film as well. Got this from reading the books(got about 20 Predator/Alien novels) the Predators view humans as very dangerous prey, due to intelligence - being able to spot traps and set them - not due to size or strength or anything physical. So the complaint about Prey ''How does that little ''girl'' beat a predator'' - well by the very thing they view as dangerous - planning and traps. I thought it was a very good film - show casing the men running in with numbers and strength and loosing - both the Natives and the Dutch(if I remember correctly), then her - learning from Predator, setting traps and using it's own weapons. Now there is one issue - the Predator forgot how its own weapon work and killed itself - which could be put down to acting in pure rage and not ''thinking'' - again show casing humans dangerous nature of thinking, pushing for an emotional response of anger/frustration - allowing silly mistakes to occur that get you killed.
So, yeah I thought Prey was a damn good film. Also Predators 2010 - would really like a follow up to that film, that again was a damn good thought out film. Shane blacks one - there was a lot of potential for the idea/concept of that film - but was poorly delivered.

I don't care for Prey, P1 and P2 feel way more gritty, real and more creative. They also royally messed up the predator's face. The predator in that never mimics, taunts it's prey mentally etc...
I found it all very 'kiddie' with all the weird cgi blood/ gore as well. Remember when rated R was actually R?
Prey was a step in the right direction, it was good for having such a low Budget, things I would fix is less cgi and more practical Effects, and put in a strong male figure to go against the Predator, it’s more believable, oh and bring back our OG Predators and possibly let them win once

Make a Predator movie.
Don't try to make a "better" predator. Don't make a bigger predator. Don't make predator-dogs. Don't make a predator with longer mandibles. Don't make two different kinds of "wolves vs dogs" predators. Don't make a "feral" predator with bone armor.

Enjoy P1 and P2.... This series is really similiar to Terminator to me as I really could care less of those past T1 and T2 also (Salvation is the only one I really care to watch of the rest). Hard to believe P2 was lowest on $$ made of this series.... Though, itd of been great to see Arnold back and pairing up with Glover in P2 and the accompanying story. Ill rewatch P1 and P2, could really care less of the others.

What is it with weebs getting their fingers into everything? Just pit a predator against the ancient Romans at the height of their empire. Have one hunting Celts that eventually takes on the formidable Roman Legions and turns the tables on a historically unbeatable and unmatched adversary. It could even explain why Rome failed to conquer the northern parts of Britain: an invisible "godly" force was stopping them.

I’d be willing to bet this was in the rankings for Prey. Obviously, they ended up going with a Native American theme but I bet a Japanese theme was discussed. The problem with that is that Samurai didn’t hide and play games. They didn’t hunt. They stood proud and fought in the open. Not very conducive to the cat and mouse game that takes place in Predator movies. Maybe it could work. It would just have to be clever in how it would be written.

Predator 2 was awesome. Danny Glover is a great actor and a believable hero. Bill Paxton is also terrific. Taking the Predator into an urban environment was inspired and they made it work. Finally. Two words. Gary Busey.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Predator 2 is awesome. Its always been my 2nd favorite in the series and my love for it only gets bigger. Does it have flaws? Sure, but it also respected what came before in the original, expanded on the lore and weapons of the Predator just enough, we saw a lot more of the Predator, Kevin Peter Hall (RIP) played City Hunter differently from Jungle Hunter to give him his own distinction, great cast, very well done action scenes, awesome setting having it take place in the city, cool take having it be a detective story, etc. It wasn't just a retread of the original and expanded on and or changed on the important aspects to make it just that. Director Stephen Hopkins (The Life & Death Of Peter Sellers, The Ghost & The Darkness, Judgment Night) did a very solid job with it, especially when you take into account he had to work on Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (during a writer's strike mind you and had an incredibly finite time to make it) and Predator 2 at the same time for a certain amount of time which is insane. While the original is still tops (for me personally) Predator 2 is awesome and is still the best sequel in the franchise.

The second film was great, depicting a lost time in cinema... The 4th was such a let down.

"The whole point of the Predator is to be scary" and how is it scary now when a primitive teenaged girl can kill one it's not really very scary ant more is it? I think one of the main reasons for the decline of the franchise was that the first movies adversary was the panicle and every movie after that the main advisory took a step down until you get to the most physical weakest one you could possibly find. They shouldn't worry about the mystery so much and focus on what makes this creature scary, I'm not scared of that little girl and I'm damned sure not scared of anything she is able to kill.

@erroneous6947 this. Jesse Ventura was the exception to the rule of what Navy SEALs and other elite warriors actually look or act like. I've had the pleasure of meeting and knowing quite a few retired SF/SEAL/SOCOM/Ranger guys, and they don't look like the Hollywood archetype. Most are average guys. They look average, they act average, and most aren't very talkative about that aspect of their life. The guys who humble brag about it the most, are usually the ones that have the least reason to.
The reason is that to be successful in these elite teams, it's not about being the strongest, the fastest, or the best at any one thing. It's about mental fortitude, mental toughness, being able to handle stressful situations and still function effectively.
Honestly I love all the predators films. The only one I don't really care for is The Predator and even I have to admit to myself that there are some things I liked about it .
I liked the first half of the predator it was up to the till when the upgrade was introduced that i stopped liking it that and the 2 extra predators were cut when fox interfered

According to this comment section, Predator 2 is not underrated at all. It's a decent movie. Entertaining to be sure, but doesn't hold a candle to the first one.
Prey was absolute trash. Good cinematography and a decent setting doesn’t make for a good film. So many flaws to even bother with.
I HATED it when I first saw it, my friend asked if we could try and watch it again but I can't stand it. Yes it doesn't have the mega flaws that The Predator 2018 had but it has all different ones.

Predator 1, AVP, and The Predator are the ones I liked the most. They had the best stories and sets. Of course, Predator 1 is the best by far.
Predator 1 was so good because of all those one-liners, amazing sound design and music. The cinematography, the simple story with high-stakes action, and every set and costume never detracted from the movie nor ever took me out of that world. There's a vibe and experience that's very satisfying, every time I watch it.
What made the story great is that it's like every great war movie you've ever seen, thrown into chaos when an unknown sniper (in this case an alien hunter) starts taking down soldiers in the platoon. You've got amazing weapons, and soldier roles, you'd expect in a modern war movie, of the time.
Plus, you've got loads of personality along with believable discliplined coordination between the soldiers. Yet, this hunter is superior than the sum of them all, except for the very elite of the elite human. Makes you proud to be human.😁
It also is very satisfying because of the massive struggle to defeat this superior foe. If you don't think your hero can lose then it's not a great story or villain. This movie has both. Predator is one of the best action/sci-fi movies ever made! The rest have their moments but don't have that same elegance, chemistry, and struggle.
The First two “Predator” movies are the Best! Both Arnold & Danny are both great (and of course Kevin Peter Hall as the Predator) 🤘
