Atari 2600+ :: How Does It Hold Up To The Original??
The Atari 2600+ is an updated version of the original Atari VCS (later known as the 2600). It does everything the original did, with HDMI out and USB power, but is it worth getting?
I check out this little console with a whole heap of VCS carts from my own collection and compare it to the one I grew up with as a kid in the 80's.

Finally Hands On With The Analogue Pocket
มุมมอง 22K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Analogue Pocket has been on the market for a while now, on and off, and there's been a lot of buzz around it. It's a great idea to let us blow the dust off our old cartridges and enjoy our games like never before, but is the Analogue Pocket even worth it? Does it deserve its FOMO image? I give the transparent orange one a try with my own collection, to see what all the fuss is about. Analog...
PlayStation Portal? Pfft!!
มุมมอง 372ปีที่แล้ว
The PlayStation Portal is here and it's ruddy expensive for what it is! Two hundred quid for a dumb terminal? No thanks! I was able to get PS5 Remote Play working just as well on my trusty Steam Deck, and it didn't cost me £200 and a lot of stress cos of FOMO. It was all thanks to chiaki4deck, and I take you through my experiences with it, along with my conclusion surrounding remote play in the...

Check out my 15 tips for shopping for games at CeX! Save yourself a lot of hassle and save a few quid! I've been shopping at CeX for a long time and, with Christmas on the horizon, I thought I'd share fifteen tips for buying games at their stores. I FINALLY Got A 64DD In 2023!!!!
มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
I've wanted one of these ever since 1997 and now FINALLY I've got a 64DD!! The 64DD was a disk drive add-on for the N64 that used preparatory floppy disks to load software. It was only released in Japan, and only on the market for a little over a year before it was scrapped. Ten titles were released for it, and some of them are so rare that they sell today for thousands of pounds! Come take a l...
Steam Deck :: First Impressions From A Console Gamer
มุมมอง 795ปีที่แล้ว
I finally got a hold of a Steam Deck... only a year and a half after its initial release, mind! What're my initial thoughts of it?? Although I do have plenty of games on PC, I'm much more of a console gamer. I've preferred having dedicated consoles with games optimised to take advantage of them, rather than having to fiddle with the settings every time I fire up a new game. So will I take to th...
Is PlayStation Backwards Compatibility Expensive??
มุมมอง 465ปีที่แล้ว
Continuing with the Cost of Living Series, I checked out backwards compatibility on as many PlayStations as I could!! Is it cheaper to play PlayStation games on their native consoles, or do newer models prove to be cheaper in the long run? With energy costs skyrocketing, we need to do all we can in order to save on our energy bills. So I took it upon myself to go through all of my consoles and ...
Have The EVERCADE EXP's Issues Been Fixed??
มุมมอง 4.7Kปีที่แล้ว
The Evercade EXP has been out for a short while now. Reviews dropped for it around the start of 2023 and, though the general reception of the device was positive, they all raised some sort of issue here and there. Nine months after its release, how's the Evercade EXP looking now? Have these issues been addressed? Have Blaze been adequately supporting it? (btw sorry yes, my nails were a little m...
What Is This? A Controller For Ants?? :: PB Tails CHOC 2.0 Controller
มุมมอง 838ปีที่แล้ว
All of my controllers have been plastic... until now! I've been trying out PB Tails' CHOC 2.0 controller. It's shell is made of a zinc alloy and it's by far the smallest and edgiest (literally) controller I've ever reviewed. It works on Switch, PC, iOS/Android, and Raspberry Pi and features rumble, gyro control, and turbo. How does it fare? And do I address the elephant in the room? Many thanks...
N64 NSO Controllers Out Of Stock?? 8bitdo Have You Covered!!
มุมมอง 4.8Kปีที่แล้ว
8bitdo have released a PCB replacement mod kit for original N64 controllers, allowing you to get your old existing N64 controllers to work with modern devices such as the Nintendo Switch, PC, Android, and Raspberry Pi. N64 Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) controllers have been in stock in the UK for a while now however, this is a handy alternative if they're out of stock in your region. It's also a...

The Cost Of Gaming Is Dropping!!
มุมมอง 341ปีที่แล้ว
It's true!! Gaming is going to be cheaper!! Come 1st July '23, the cap on our electricity is lowering, which means we should be able to play our consoles for longer... right?? I recalculated how much it'll cost to run our games consoles, based on the new energy cap, and find out how much of a difference it makes to us in the longer term. How much will we save? How much more gaming time can we h...
How Did I NOT Know This Existed?? :: SD2SP2 Pro
มุมมอง 17Kปีที่แล้ว
A new revision of the SD2SP2 quietly released less than a year ago, and I've only just recently learnt of it! It'll let you use a microSD card to run homebrew and backed up games, like the original one does, except now the card can be removed far easier. I've been using the original one for a couple of years now and it's been excellent for my GameCube setup. However, I've found getting the card...
Anbernic RG35XX :: Worth Tinkering??
มุมมอง 41Kปีที่แล้ว
Is it worth modding and tinkering with the RG35XX? A few months ago I picked up the Anbernic RG35XX in the hopes it would be a good choice for portable emulation on the go. Upon starting it up, the quality of the picture wasn't very good, but thankfully its very active online community has been to work to bring a heap of improvements for it. After much research into what I felt was right for me...

DualShocks Broken Forever?? Lemmie Take A Look...
This thing does wonders for PS2 and the original Xbox with a 480p signal being upscaled to 1080p.
OSSC 1.8 os a beast foe retro on new tv oled
i got one brand new, some years ago. tried that that on my modded retro consoles as well as my ps3. As far as I'm concernes kt's not worth the 100€ I paid for. Yeah my TV tells me my PS3 it is displayed in 4k résolution... Yet there's no visual noticable effects. Could be worth of your TV does not have an internal upscaller (but they all have now). Marseille's claims are pretty deceiving if you ask me.
If they made a universal cartridge that takes the sd card? I see that happening. and one that acted as a converter for Colecovision games?
So, I'm having trouble getting Swiss to boot. I've got an Action Replay v1.2, and 3 variations of a media launcher: an SD2GC, a SD media launcher from datel, which I believe may have come with euther this version or an earlier version of AR, and a more regular one. I've also 2 1 GB micro SD's, 1 from Sandisc and 1 from Cloudisk. Nothing i've done works.
I'll wait until something comes along thats much better all round. Or get something thats already out thats better all round.
Im still running an original 1980 Sears light sixer, and a 1978 Heavy Sixer I just restored. Pretty happy with those two.
I have plenty of memory cards as well, but for my main ‘slot a’ I use virtual cards. I am a bit worried that I will stick a memory card in and it isn’t recognized due to the age of the cards.
The Atari VCS (a.k.a. The AtariBox) was $99. I got that. Going to upgrade it, install Windows 10, and that thing is going to be nice. Small PC, possibly to where I can just plug in a USB 3.0 SSD and switch to Linux as well.
My sd2sp pro works flawlessly
Do you have to run a disk for this? My laser I have to adjust it. 😢
From water to agua
Dude it clearly worked
Its a one console hit wonder. Only makes the Gamecube look much better. If you use it with a retro-bit prism on a gamecube it looks phenomenal. All other consoles it doesn't provide value at all for this thing. It way too overpriced for how little use you get out of it. Marseille should be ashamed.
Still relevant to this day ♥
Why does the guy who lent it to you want to leave the film on the screen when it's all bubbled up like that? No offense to him but it just looks bad like that. It'd be better just putting a screen protector on that's better quality. The screen film is meant to be taken off immediately after getting the device.
I believe he did put a proper screen protector on it after I was done with it 🙂
Around the corner is a retro game store dedicated to old stuff like you missed out mate rewind collectables
In Ashton? Aye we've been there a few times and picked up a few things; just not on this trip sadly.
It plays 7800 games too so your comment that it really isn't much different is completely flawed.
Love your presentation style in your videos keep up the good work. 😎
Thanks so much!
I have an original woody and a CRT but picked the plus up just recently. Lovely warm image on the original with a CRT when it's tuned in correctly but the 2600+ ,makes its games far easier to enjoy and crystal clean on a modern TV. The only wrinkle is that the paddle controller isn't as smooth on the plus than it is on the original hardware when playing Kaboom! and Super Breakout. It's a splendid console.
What a lot of reviews of this device fail to mention is that it gives the best results when you have your TV's sharpness settings at zero. For the first two years I used this device, I had my TV's sharpness settings at 20 and was often doubtful as to whether my device was actually doing the job as intended due to how underwhelming a lot of the results were. After setting my TV's sharpness to zero, every game I've played using this device looks better than ever before.
I can't believe my microwave company made a video game console.
I will be choosing 8bitdo kit all other n64 controllers I read people say they broke, stop working , for some people until I read comments about nso controllers on Amazon I will not be buying one
I get the best performance running my the null dc dreamcast emulator on a pc with a dedicated graphic card. It's obvious the the arm cores are in the pi 3 and 4 are too weak.
is the bitfunx ossc 1.7 the same as this?
This controller makes me want to fight a demon while hitchhiking with my buddy Kyle on a long and lonesome road 10/10
Thank you so much for this video! Excellent tests and analysis! Really helps me make a decision, thank you!!! Gamecube is clearly where the improvements are--maybe they should rebrand it as the GamcubeClassic lol
Having cartridges is always better than sd cards, now down to the 2600+, love the HDMI connection, love usb power, love how it accepts all of the old controllers, love how it accepts all most all of the 2600 games, love how it accepts all most all of the 7800 games, and love how they are releasing cartridges, now down side would have been great if it was orginal size and had all the 6 switches on the front, so when playing space shuttle you can use the overlay on the system , maybe release this game again with a new overlay, got burned because they release the 7800+ now .
Yeah, I would've preferred it to have been the 6-switcher VCS instead. I guess most people know it as the 2600
Attention gamers, I have a Modal 001 Platinum GameCube ans it doesn't seem to have this port.
I'm just getting into the retro scene and just picked up a Analogue. Now trying to figure out how to add free games? Just don't want Nintendo knocking down my door
Atari and coleco can get small ports you can install to allow HDMI ports on them just need to look around
The Pocket is pretty but honestly I'm happy with my Funny Playing FPGBC which only plays the GB and GBC carts but I tend to play my GBA on on DSi XL and New 3DS XL and the price - FPGBC $83 us shipped. Compared to Pocket which has a great screen but is overpriced, hard to get and has outrageously overpriced shipping. Also, the FPGC has a good screen too though not as good.
Nintendo should honestly be making notes. Cause i would 100% buy a modern nes,snes,n64 or GameCube with hdmi
I think the question should be how well does the 2600 itself hold up cause I’d say not very well
I bought a white Japanese regular Saturn controller because the monochrome black US controller looked boring like the UK one. My US Saturn wouldn't recognize the Japanese controller.
why woud i want this if i need a sd to mem card that can do the same thing?
The SD to memory card only supports non-SDHC micro SD cards; 2Gb or less. It's there to be the main way into Swiss or for any other homebrew software like the GB Interface. You could fit one game on one of those cards, but that's it.
Voyee controller if you want something good and cheap.
How can ai go back to the main me u without turning it off and on again when wanting to switch to a different game?
I have a question and I apologise if you have answered this: with PS3's HDCP protection making you have to use a splitter with capture cards, does using the MClassic bypass the HDCP protection???
As far as I can tell, it doesn't
do you need a disk to start games or can you just start without
Yep, it really is.
I love mine! Was lucky to find a sealed special edition a few years ago.
Are they ever going to update the games to match the new monitor / TV resolution? The games were always fun, but the 8-bit graphics were the best they could do - way back then. Like they say - that was then, this is now. They should use the same plots, characters and items for the games but remake them for at least 1080p (32-bit? 64-bit?!)
It's been done many times. There is the recharged series, which are modernized versions of classic Atari games, and then there are more than 40 newly released games on steam and on their website.
@@redleader7988 Thanks! I hadn't heard of these. I'll definitely look around for them.
Two questions...can you still play your normal gamecube games using cd player and how big of an sd card to fit entire gamecube library is needed? Thanks for your help and awesome content!
Sure ya can. I do it quite often with new discs I haven't backed up yet. There're roughly 650 GCN games which'll each be about 1.5Gb, so you'd need perhaps a 1Tb micro SD card to store 'em all. I couldn't tell ya if this supports cards that large though.
I've been looking at this, but I'm not sure it's for me. The summer before I entered the university I played the first commercial video arcade game "Computer Space" at a pop-up pinball arcade tent at the Ohio State Fair. It was by a company called Syzygy who later changed their name to Atari. You can still see the game in the movie Soylent Green. When Asteroids showed up on campus I was hooked and when Missile Command came out I couldn't get enough. But when the original Atari VCS came out I was disappointed with the graphics. It was nothing like I had come to expect in the arcades. So I never had any 2600 game cartridges. I was married before I decided I needed one of those new home computers, but I wanted the best graphics and animation I could find. That was the Atari 400/800 Home Computer System. I learned everything I ever needed to know about computer science on my Atari 800. But the owners of other computers teased that the Atari was "just a game machine." Nowadays that's all anyone wants. Earlier this year I was able to get back ALL my old 8-bit Atari computer stuff after my brother-in-law took it all when I moved to California thirty years ago. I also took possession of a 7800 Pro system and about two dozen game cartridges. That's when I found out that the 7800 could also play 2600 cartridges. In recent years I'v discovered that while the 2600 graphics are still not good, the playability is certainly there, so I'm not as down on the 2600 as I used to be. I have a nice RF to HDMI converter that works well, and also a couple of old CRT color TVs. But the joysticks on the 7800 don't work. The way I think, my 7800 will do most of what the 2600+ will do, without having to resort to emulation. So I can use a CRT TV, or the RF to HDMI converter to get a good display however I want to. The 7800 will draw more power, but maybe I can find replacements or manage to fix its joysticks.
uh? dont think your allowed to backup your backup.
But what about the backup of my backup's backup? 😅
This device best suited for early low-res 3D graphics: PS1, PS2 (maaaaaybe, early games - probably), N64, GC, Wii - here you can see the difference. For Switch in some games it changes the color scheme a bit, did it more, I don't know, glossy if I can say. Someone like that, someone not.
the ps2 is really hard to emulate and its actually pretty impressive sony even managed it on the ps3, so im honestly nor surprised here
I've never used the original SD2SP2, so I can't really comment on the comparison. However, with the pro I had to sandpaper it slightly to have it fit flush, and you do need to be careful when you remove or put in the SD card as if you are a bit heavy-handed you can dislodge it from the socket. This might not be a problem if you have the gameboy base holding it in, but if you don't it is just sitting there by the connector and nothing else, and it is not hugely secure. Just need to be aware and be gentle. For the record, I modded my optical PCB with the Xeno chip (and recapped it while I was there), and use a home burned swiss boot disk to get into my backed up games on the SD card. I'm just about to replace the controller board with the Blue Retro internal adapter from Laser Bear Industries, which will allow me to use any bluetooth controller with the GC, plus has some nice LEDs and an easy replace (non solder) date/time backup battery mount, which should be great!
i can’t get my amiibo to register on mine 😢 otherwise, i love this controller for how it feels and plays and its price. ~$20-25 usd when i got it in Jan 2024. it’s my first amiibo so hopefully i can figure it out, as it was a gift and i’d love to use it! thx for this detailed review
