As a Brit that has a pocket, the main gripe I have that is the lack of a plug charger. The Pocket's power supply is actually universal, meaning it supports and accepts all voltages and frequencies. You just need a passive adapter to adapt the prongs and those should only cost a couple bucks. It's not ideal but it is a fairly cheap solution at least. But otherwise since the pocket and dock only support USB PD any good brand of USB C charger will work just fine. I charge mine with the same Anker bricks I use for all my other handhelds without any issues.

I definitely feel it lives up to the hype. I have had mine for a little over a year and it just keeps getting better via updates. If you really want to take it to the next level get the dock.
The Pocket is definitely a slick little device, but I wish we had more options in the FPGA handheld market instead of the countless Android devices that rely on software emulation. The only real competitor to the Pocket right now is probably the Funnyplaying FPGBC, but as the name suggests it only supports GB and GBC games which is a deal breaker for me personally. That being said, if you're comfortable with having to assemble it and you only care about playing GB and GBC games then the FPGBC just makes more sense because it's basically half the price of the Pocket. I'm personally really hoping Funnyplaying or some other company releases an FPGA handheld that supports GBA on top of GB and GBC. That would be pretty sick.
i removed the screen film the second i took it out from the box lol and i have it for almost 7-8 months already, not a single scratch in the screen yet, for GBA games the best and only option to play it as the developers intended is the Origina GBA LCD filter, that way you get CORRECT COLORs of GBA games and not oversaturated like Analogue Filter or GBA 101 Filter.
Yeah it's Gorilla glass isn't it? Should be fine. Still, he was kind enough to lend me it for a bit. I think he had a screen protector on order for it.
The dock is a big selling point to me. Being able to play on a big screen with a bluetooth controller, along with all the other systems you can now play is awesome!
I’ve had mine quite a while but only started using it after the screen modes got added to OpenFPGA. The Amiga implementation impresses me the most, it adds a pick up and play factor to games that had longer loading times.
If you can find one it's definitely worth the price the analogue pocket is amazing and really easy to put all your favorite ROMs on plus you can also use a gba cable and trade to an older GBA system I have done it with no issues
Im gettin it to play pokemon games but roms dont have real time clocks so you cant get the night day cycle unless you have real carts but i guess pokemon rom hacks should be fine to play instead
Not a fan of the 1:1 ratio. On a 3.5" screen. Gameboy Advance just looks too smooshed. Vastly prefer the 4:3 screens that well with Classic GB as well as GBA.
Got mine since september. The screen is the main positive point, hi res with gorgeous filters. Can play up to neo geo and CPS 2 A lot to love but I'm not confident about those very flimsy membranes life span for the buttons. The d pad is not very good if you are interested in 2d fighters.
I got the same model Color at around 300 But it came with a screen protector so that's cool My main thing I collect is gba I love car battler joe on it.
I'm just getting into the retro scene and just picked up a Analogue. Now trying to figure out how to add free games? Just don't want Nintendo knocking down my door
Thanks for pointing out the obvious (to anyone that has played the originals) lag with Software emulation. I have 2 mini consoles and a PC with multiple emulators and all of them have lag and glitches even on the simplest 8 bit games. If you want the original experience, you have to use original or FPGA hardware.
and not to mention they sell out to scalpers in about 3 mins once go on sale as have no min cart order, have given up trying to get one and the postage is mental.
I'm glad you like it buddy. I never thought about the shape as much and I agree with you when you said the GBA shame would be better. The ONLY thing I'm not a fan of is the shoulder buttons. Saying that, I hated them on the GBA SP too. Playing Desert Strike on it whilst laid in bed is bliss. PS, how old is that bloody photo you used of me? Not a gray hair in sight. 😂
The Analogue Pocket price is the biggest scam on the market. The fact people pay 220$-300$ for this is absolutely insane. I just bought a Steam Deck for 250$ used and it can emulate everything up to Switch. While playing AAA PC games. This is a joke. You can play GB,GBC, and GBA upscaled to 4K on a 7' screen for the same price. The fact the company got away with selling this for so much is shocking.
Doubt ur steam deck can play actual game boy cartridges. It wasnt originally a emulator it got added later on. Analogue is the most premium gameboy experience and also does the steam deck fit into ur pockets?
Personally, they delivered my Pocket to Canada through UPS, which charged me several hudnreds of dollards in duties. Had I known, I wouldn't have even bought it. If anyone sells things to Canada, they should use anything but UPS. USPS being the prefered option.
@@TheMultiGenGamer Yep, lol. Didn't help that I had ordered two fogurines, and they changed to UPS last minute. The bill came in at around 700$ just in duties and fees
Mate, got the recommendation, left a like. However: don't know how you're soundmixing, but the intro bleeding into the prologue is pretty harsh on the ears; at least on laptop speakers. Keep up the good work. I respect everybody taking up the genre I can't see myself giving a unique angle to.
The minute an Analogue Pocket is updated with a 120Hz (for black frame insertion) HDR SAMOLED (this will allow HDR-BFI), i'll buy one, I just can not handle the motion blur of modern LCD screens, it just ruins the image quality of these classic retro games, I'd rather use OG hardware until an OLED FPGA Gameboy comes out.
Huh? Any modern LCD will be far ahead of the motion blur and ghosting on the very consoles which are being emulated. Original GB, GBC, GBA, GG, Lynx etc all suffered from this due to their screens using tech from the 80s and 90s. The Pocket screen is extremely responsive and low latency due to it being a VR display. If it’s use in VR did not cause motion sickness then it is easily capable of eliminating motion blur present in 30+ year old handhelds.
The Pocket doesn't have motion blur, the pixels swap fully before it refreshes. That's because it's not the same LCD tech as you find in modern phones or monitors but was specifically made for VR applications. That said the tech can't do 240hz or higher like modern OLED tech can, OLED is still able to turn on and off much faster. But for the 60hz only games this does not matter in the least.
@@RAHelllord It's just an LTPS LCD, which only offers slightly higher refresh rates and slightly higher luminance, but the Analogue Pockets LTPS LCD has only a 30-62Hz frequency range, though it does have VRR which is cool, but it still has the typical high motion blur of all sample & hold displays, hopefully Analogue will upgrade their Pocket V2 with a 5K SAMOLED (RGB-Stripe) with 120Hz and integrated driver level BFI, better yet, a raster-scan or RBFI algorithm screen modulation update method, they could even have the secondary FPGA running as a frame-buffer-free race-the-beam method, this can be done at 30/60 FPS and give immaculate input-response times and motion clarity, it would be handheld perfection. I'm actually designing a MiSTer handheld at the moment, which I plan on using a Sony RGB-OLED I harvested from a 7.8 inch 16:10 BVM I have, and it has Sony's exclusive native rolling-scan CRT emulation built in, which has immaculate 60Hz motion-clarity and just under 0.5ms of input-response, basically it will be the nest best thing to having a full-fat CRT handheld, I just need to design the case and controller layout, I plan on using a Pico Pi microcontroller, hall-effect analogue on the left, and micro-switch 8-way stick/d-pad combo, buttons and bumpers, analogue triggers, and for the right analogue I plan on using an optical micro-trackball for precision control in FPS, Arcade, N64 games etc, and dual side paddles either side on the right & left of the handheld that I can easily manipulate with my thumbs for paddle games like Tempest, only thing then is to sort out the audio, which I have a spare Pi Zero 2 W for MIDI and FM-Synthesis, or I may use a real OPL3 chipset, along with a nice DAC and headphone AMP, should be an amazing build, though will take me another 6 months from now, who knows, Analogue may beat me to it with the V2 Pocket.
It definitely has a lot of great features, but imo a console is only as good as its availability. What good is an amazing product that nobody can buy without being ready with a credit card within like 0.02 seconds of it being dropped? That or pay absurd scalper prices. I'd only seriously consider getting one if/when Analogue decides to fix their supply issues.
Another person pushing this false narrative, the black & white version were literally available to preorder for months and are now back in stock once they did the limited edition drops(certain ones of these were available for several hours after release).
@@chaikagazthat would be awesome. I have the white version and honestly I'm not a fan of it it dirtiest quickly if you have sweaty hands like I do. I would've loved to have gotten the red, silver or blue shells.
The Pocket is pretty but honestly I'm happy with my Funny Playing FPGBC which only plays the GB and GBC carts but I tend to play my GBA on on DSi XL and New 3DS XL and the price - FPGBC $83 us shipped. Compared to Pocket which has a great screen but is overpriced, hard to get and has outrageously overpriced shipping. Also, the FPGC has a good screen too though not as good.

Hoping i never have to use the warranty. But even big companies like sony or samsung have the worst customer support. They outsource work to india who barely can understand you
Why does the guy who lent it to you want to leave the film on the screen when it's all bubbled up like that? No offense to him but it just looks bad like that. It'd be better just putting a screen protector on that's better quality. The screen film is meant to be taken off immediately after getting the device.

The analogue console is dumb. If you own originals, great it’s meant for you. But for anyone who don’t own originals, don’t buy it. The cost to buy originals are just not worth the value just to play retro games. Just get a capable emulator console.

@@SlCKB0Y-sb1kgit’s a good screen, no doubt. But the controls are, sadly, terrible. I’d rather have better controls and a slightly worse screen. I fortunately was able to get the pocket and dock from their website. Fuck those scalpers. 😅@@chaikagaz
I was gifted mine by my girlfriend. Its taught me a lot about file management for sure lol
Id take the gf instead. Who wants a analogue when a gf can give u pleasure in a different way
i removed the screen film the second i took it out from the box lol and i have it for almost 7-8 months already, not a single scratch in the screen yet, for GBA games the best and only option to play it as the developers intended is the Origina GBA LCD filter, that way you get CORRECT COLORs of GBA games and not oversaturated like Analogue Filter or GBA 101 Filter.
Yeah it's Gorilla glass isn't it? Should be fine. Still, he was kind enough to lend me it for a bit. I think he had a screen protector on order for it.
Correct its corning gorilla glass it protects against deep scratches but not the micro scratches which could be why ppl want screen protectors
So it has sleep mode?
If you can find one it's definitely worth the price the analogue pocket is amazing and really easy to put all your favorite ROMs on plus you can also use a gba cable and trade to an older GBA system I have done it with no issues
Im gettin it to play pokemon games but roms dont have real time clocks so you cant get the night day cycle unless you have real carts but i guess pokemon rom hacks should be fine to play instead
It has rtc for gb and gbc games using buds core.
Not a fan of the 1:1 ratio. On a 3.5" screen. Gameboy Advance just looks too smooshed. Vastly prefer the 4:3 screens that well with Classic GB as well as GBA.
But then you get black bars in both cases.
@@logic63 It's barely noticeable on my Miyoo Mini+
Got mine since september.
The screen is the main positive point, hi res with gorgeous filters.
Can play up to neo geo and CPS 2
A lot to love but I'm not confident about those very flimsy membranes life span for the buttons. The d pad is not very good if you are interested in 2d fighters.
Good thing i only like rpgs
I got the same model Color at around 300 But it came with a screen protector so that's cool My main thing I collect is gba I love car battler joe on it.
Analogue pocket has corning glass so it dont need a screen protector. Doubt ppl even know what corning even means
@@chaikagaz I
Wouldn't even risk it I prefer just to have that little bit of protection because I might drop it
I'm just getting into the retro scene and just picked up a Analogue.
Its because emulation is software based and analogue imitates the hardware based emulation.
and not to mention they sell out to scalpers in about 3 mins once go on sale as have no min cart order, have given up trying to get one and the postage is mental.
The OG black/white ones are available right now if you wanted to grab one 🙂 limit 2 per order
They should limit to 1 per order and also 1 per shipping address. They know they are feeding the scalpers such a shit company
The new Amiga core on the pocket is the absolute dogs bo****ks. Get it loaded up, you won't be disappointed.
You can play GB,GBC, and GBA upscaled to
4K on a 7' screen for the same price. The fact the company got away with selling this for so much is shocking.
Doubt ur steam deck can play actual game boy cartridges. It wasnt originally a emulator it got added later on. Analogue is the most premium gameboy experience and also does the steam deck fit into ur pockets?
when you start playing with all the cores that exist and dock it also you real see what is worth it....its an fpga multi console in 1
So dock is to play all the other cores? I have retroarch so i dont even need a dock to play on my tv
Personally, they delivered my Pocket to Canada through UPS, which charged me several hudnreds of dollards in duties. Had I known, I wouldn't have even bought it. If anyone sells things to Canada, they should use anything but UPS. USPS being the prefered option.
Bloomin' 'eck!! That must've really stung 😫
@@TheMultiGenGamer Yep, lol. Didn't help that I had ordered two fogurines, and they changed to UPS last minute. The bill came in at around 700$ just in duties and fees
Thats your fault for living in canada. Wait for them to open canada store location instead lol
Cheers mate! I'm always trying to improve where I can, and audio is always the hardest to get right. I'll bare your comment in mind for the next one 👌
Miyoo mini plus all the way 😃
Theres like 100 other chinese emulation devices that does the same thing
@@Wobble2007 Good luck to you and your $1K BoM or whatever it ends up being. It does sound amazing, but commercial, hmmmm.
Keep dreaming cause there is no oled fpga as far as i know. Not even oled gameboy mods
I love my pocket
Bought it specifically because it has rom emulation. Cant seem to want to purchase gba cartridges because scalpers are charging that high retro tax
I just ordered one since Black and White are readily available on the website and it says expected to ship February.
You can literally go to Analogues store and order one right now. Stop listening to whatever you hear and actually do some research of your own.
They should sell the limited edition shells separately so just buy black or white and change the case out would be the better option
@@chaikagazthat would be awesome. I have the white version and honestly I'm not a fan of it it dirtiest quickly if you have sweaty hands like I do. I would've loved to have gotten the red, silver or blue shells.
Honestly I have an Anbernic haldheld and games with shaders look more real than actual hardware on this expensive console.
Love the Red Dwarf reference.
No one really mentions this but the d pad and buttons just dont feel right. Its not terrible but I like the original game boy better in this dept.
❤
Love the analogue! Just sad that the build quality is really really cheap and they cheaped out on literally everything in that department.. also smal company who is in over there heads… so very poor costumer service
Hoping i never have to use the warranty. But even big companies like sony or samsung have the worst customer support. They outsource work to india who barely can understand you
I paid scalper price for mine and the battery won't even charge 😔
There literally was no need to unless you must have the limited edition colours
@@fowler0028 it is limited edition
I wanted the blue but didnt have the money for the $300 price tag glad i got the black for $260 instead. Scalpers can eat my ass im not paying
is it worth the money? absolutely not. Would I buy it again? hell yes
Gaming is expensive. Some people dont understand that. Been buying AAAA $70 games on ps5 for years now and im sure i spent like $5000 at least
Why does the guy who lent it to you want to leave the film on the screen when it's all bubbled up like that? No offense to him but it just looks bad like that. It'd be better just putting a screen protector on that's better quality. The screen film is meant to be taken off immediately after getting the device.
I believe he did put a proper screen protector on it after I was done with it 🙂
tell your friend, sod the devaluation, the screen protector on that thing looks ugly and rank and he needs to replace it ASAP
Haha he had a new screen protector on order so chances are he's replaced it by now. But I agree, it's Gorilla glass so it should be fine anyway.
Whoa it can play PC engine
Yes it is….
that screen film is disgusting
Not my problem thankfully 😁
@@TheMultiGenGamer lol amen
You can hate me if you want but... man this transparent orange one is really ugly and looks cheap. :D
I'm glad I have the black one.
I am indifferent as this was merely loaned to me 😅
@@TheMultiGenGamer I know. Fair enough. ;)
@@TheMultiGenGamerVery good video btw. I've seen thousands of AP reviews, especially BEFORE I got mine (yes, I was almost starving to death in a way lol) but yours is definitely among the top 10 I'd say.
That's very kind of you, thanks! Not bad for a little TH-camr 😄 I must admit, I prefer the look of the opaque ones as well, rather than the transparent ones.
@@TheMultiGenGamer Indeed. The only transparent one I "approve" is the purple one. Probably only for nostalgia though lol.
Granted, I didn't grow up with an original Game Boy, I got in when the GBC was a thing... but I cannot understand how anyone can enjoy playing games wit h that disgusting green background.. I get it from the point of view that it's how it originally looked... but my goodness is it ever ugly.
I used to have fat gameboy, gameboy pocket, gameboy color while growing up i guess some people are just chasing nostalgia..
I don't think it's worth it.
The analogue console is dumb. If you own originals, great it’s meant for you. But for anyone who don’t own originals, don’t buy it. The cost to buy originals are just not worth the value just to play retro games. Just get a capable emulator console.
Or you just use the Pocket to load ROMs from SDCard and play them on by far the absolute best screen in the retro industry without having to deal with stuff like retroarch
@@SlCKB0Y-sb1kgit’s a good screen, no doubt. But the controls are, sadly, terrible. I’d rather have better controls and a slightly worse screen. There’s also little benefit to FPGA over emulation these days, as other devices like this are fast enough and with good enough emulators, that it’s almost indistinguishable. I’m not gonna sell my Pocket, but I doubt I’ll use it much now.
I have rog ally z1 extreme costs $700 and i still wanted to buy analogue because they arent the same
why do you call your self a gamer when you dont do letsp lays do you live stream your games do a lets play man i would like too see lets plays i used too do videos like this but i did not get views but now i do lets play my channel went from 65 subs from doing small videos like this too doing letsp lays i am at 230 subs i guess the change in content helpped me ? i dont like how some people put gamer or gaming in there miss flag there channel ya just talk about gaming why is it important too talk than doing lets plays .
I'm a gamer and don't do lets plays. You are dumb.
If you want subs play the games that are most popular like fortnite or watever. You gotta follow the trend of what people want to watch not wat u want to play..
I wasn't sold either until I decided to review it on my channel and I got to admit it's way better than I expected great video I subscribed
That's why it's never good to judge things before having hands on. It's common logic. This beverage is so stupid
