I'd love to hear how you get on with them. Be warned, as mentioned in the video, the Media Launcher doesn't support SDHC cards so be sure to source a sub-4Gb card from somewhere. Amazon have a few for dirt cheap.
Word of advice from someone new at this. Make sure all your SD cards are fromatted in FAT32, I was having a lot of trouble with the action replay picking up my micro SD untill i figured out it was formatted wrong. Please format every SD card you are using with FAT32. Cleanrip also didn't pick up my card in my SD2SP2 which was also impropperly formatted.
It is way better. Ive got that adapter plugged into both of my gamecubes. Also to store the serial port 2 plastic piece away you can place it inside serial port 1 if you would like. It will fit and most likely won't even rattle around. That way you'll never lose it
Also for PAL 50HZ only games you can also get patches online to make them always run in 60HZ too, it also gives you the Progressive Scan feature (which is really only included in NTSC-U/C and NTSC-J versions). Not all games have these patches yet though, so it's kind of limited right now.
I’m in the US and wasn’t able to find an SD Media Launcher, but I do happen to have its weird cousin, the AR MaxDrive Pro which is basically a memory card with a micro USB port on it. I’ve owned it since I was a kid but never used it. It’s a little more clunky to use but you load software onto it using its included PC utility. I had to set up a Windows XP virtual machine to get the drivers to work but it totally works! Super cool that I get to use this for the first time despite owning it for like 20 years 😅. I’m able to boot Swiss with it and am going to place my order for the sd2sp2 pro.
WOW, I need the get this version, I bought the normal SD2SP2 last year. I even have a modded GameCube (Region free and bypass copy protection) to load a burnt disc that loads Swiss (that way I also don’t have to use SD Media Launcher at all, skipping more navigations too). I also wished they changed the layout so we could get games to show box art (for each regional version) and maybe show information too like how many players, age ratings (by region version) and genre.
Thanks for the video! I ended up getting this and it's great so far, especially pairs well with the GBA player & flash cart. Also, you don't need an SD media launcher with this, as it basically replaces it. You will still need something to launch into Swiss, however.
So, I'm having trouble getting Swiss to boot. I've got an Action Replay v1.2, and 3 variations of a media launcher: an SD2GC, a SD media launcher from datel, which I believe may have come with euther this version or an earlier version of AR, and a more regular one. I've also 2 1 GB micro SD's, 1 from Sandisc and 1 from Cloudisk. Nothing i've done works.
I have plenty of memory cards as well, but for my main ‘slot a’ I use virtual cards. I am a bit worried that I will stick a memory card in and it isn’t recognized due to the age of the cards.
I bought that sd2dp2 adapter but I had to use an exploit save file (Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness in my case) to run Swiss. One thing I don't like is that I have to run the exploit every time I want to get into Swiss. I think I better get the GC Loader
What I dont quite understand is whenever I turn on my gamecube normally using the AR method. I always get a “this disc cannot be read” error message. But if I reset the console when this error pops up the console will THEN bootup the AR normally like nothing happened. This honestly a minor inconevience considering I can still get everything to run swiss and play games BUT i would like to know why this happens and if there is a work around? Id love to not be forced to reset my console everytime I want to play something (also have to wait for error message to pop up before resetting, I cant just turn it on and reset first thing).
That's a strange one and I'm not sure what to suggest. My AR disc doesn't boot if I insert it after the system is turned on, but leaving it in the tray before booting works every time for me. This isn't an issue for me as, 99% of the time, I won't be using a regular game disc anyway.
Hey mate. Great video. One question: I do not have the option for 480p in Swiss' "Force Video Mode" option. I only have 480i, 480sf, 240p, 576i, 576sf, 288p and Auto as options. Any idea on what's going on? Swiss rev 1515
4:06 Ok so just to clarify. I don’t need to mod my GameCube? Just need to purchase the chip, sd card and if possible get an action replay. Is that right or do I need to mod the GameCube first?
Two questions...can you still play your normal gamecube games using cd player and how big of an sd card to fit entire gamecube library is needed? Thanks for your help and awesome content!
Sure ya can. I do it quite often with new discs I haven't backed up yet. There're roughly 650 GCN games which'll each be about 1.5Gb, so you'd need perhaps a 1Tb micro SD card to store 'em all. I couldn't tell ya if this supports cards that large though.
I've never used the original SD2SP2, so I can't really comment on the comparison. However, with the pro I had to sandpaper it slightly to have it fit flush, and you do need to be careful when you remove or put in the SD card as if you are a bit heavy-handed you can dislodge it from the socket. This might not be a problem if you have the gameboy base holding it in, but if you don't it is just sitting there by the connector and nothing else, and it is not hugely secure. Just need to be aware and be gentle. For the record, I modded my optical PCB with the Xeno chip (and recapped it while I was there), and use a home burned swiss boot disk to get into my backed up games on the SD card. I'm just about to replace the controller board with the Blue Retro internal adapter from Laser Bear Industries, which will allow me to use any bluetooth controller with the GC, plus has some nice LEDs and an easy replace (non solder) date/time backup battery mount, which should be great!
I don't see why it wouldn't work with something like a GCLoader (though if you had one of those you'd have all your games on that SD card anyway) or with some other mod that would load up Swiss.
okay time for questions :) sorry if it's a silly question or i don't understand but on which card do I put the swiss? on the SD2SP2? and what software do I have on the sd card in the memory card I can't get past the action replay home screen thank you in advance
Does loading games off of this cause audio or video stutter? Loading from the memory card slot wasn’t the greatest experience but this seems like a great mod.
Damn, I'm currently waiting for my Picoboot components to arrive and I bought the cheapest SD card (32 GB) I could find for the mod, thinking I wasn't gonna load up anything more than just swiss, cubeboot and GameBoy interface anyway, but the option to change games from the couch might make me reconsider. I do still like using discs, but occasionally I'd prefer not having to get up^^ Oh, well. I still have a 128 GB SD card that's looking for a new purpose ever I replaced it with a 512 GB SD card in my phone...
These literally DONT work... the contacts on the SD2SP2 board are way to lose.. barely makes a connections, it looks like alot of people online have had to add solder to the board, which is ridiculous
I tried using the in game reset by changing it to igr.dol, but it just resets the whole console. Is there any other setting I need to change to make this work?
Not sure. Is it set in the global settings rather than any specific game? Another thing to try is to put igr.dol on the sd2sp2 card as well (just to rule it out). Using the latest version of swiss couldn't hurt either, if you haven't already updated it.
While we're talking GameCube, what hidden gems would you recommend?
Stay Safe ❤
pitfall:the lost expedition an amazing hidden gem that no one talks about
Thanks for this video! Very helpful. Just ordered an SD2SP2 Pro and a CodeJunkies SD Media Launcher. Can't wait to get started!
I'd love to hear how you get on with them. Be warned, as mentioned in the video, the Media Launcher doesn't support SDHC cards so be sure to source a sub-4Gb card from somewhere. Amazon have a few for dirt cheap.
Does my gc have to already be modded to use it or is it just a plug and play? @@TheMultiGenGamer
@@jaimebravo1962 to use the sd media launcher? no it's plug and play

One more thing to add, not all micro sd cards are compatible. I had that trouble the other day. There is a list of sd cards that are compatible.
Do you know where to find the list?@@1UPJACK

Genius! The real LPTs are always in the comments 😁 Imma go do that now, cheers!
That works as long as there isn’t a BBA or another mods installed.

Yeah, proper box art would be nice with a scraper too for those with the broadband adapter.
Bro has Gotcha Force 😢 Brings a tear to my eye. Nearly no one will ever see this jewel of a game...
After watching this i invested in all of the above hahaha. Great stream tonight too 👍

It's true the SD Media Launcher isn't needed for this, but I do use it to boot into Swiss. There are alternatives, of course.

no matter what i do the GC wont find Swiss. It just boots into action reply. Any ideas?
It might be it doesn't like your micro sd card. It must be a sub-4Gb (not SDHC) card and i think it needs to be formatted to FAT32.
@@TheMultiGenGamer Yeah i have ordered another old one lol. Lets see how this goes

Do you have to run a disk for this? My laser I have to adjust it. 😢

do you need a disk to start games or can you just start without

No hard modding required. Just the SD Media Launcher with Action Replay, a micro SD card (not an SDHC one, preferably 2Gb), and the SD2SP2.
Two questions...can you still play your normal gamecube games using cd player and how big of an sd card to fit entire gamecube library is needed? Thanks for your help and awesome content!

you put swiss on the sd card thats in the memory card slot and the game isos in the sd2sp2

Early versions of Swiss did suffer from audio/video lag and stutter, but an update quite a while ago eliminated that.

I believe you can, assuming you set up Swiss to accommodate. I'm still using OG memory cards though.
Can i just do this mod and put gc roms i already have onto the sd card and play? Or only works if i copy from real gc disc ?
You can do it that way too.
My sd2sp pro works flawlessly
Yeah I didn't know about this either.
These literally DONT work... the contacts on the SD2SP2 board are way to lose.. barely makes a connections, it looks like alot of people online have had to add solder to the board, which is ridiculous
Find a better seller. Everyone else’s works just fine.
Mine works fine without solder.
@Kara_Kay_Eschel yeah I ended up buying another one. The board i found that worked was red. This was 8 months ago lol. So forgot which brand
Attention gamers, I have a Modal 001 Platinum GameCube ans it doesn't seem to have this port.
uh? dont think your allowed to backup your backup.
But what about the backup of my backup's backup? 😅
to be honest ..this is tedious and hustle to do, and too many parts are needed.
I think I'm gonna pass on this one.
bro stop using european version when the american ones are the only ones tht support proggesive scan mode and look beautiful
I'm ntsc us like you. Do u have to solder the thing into the optical?
Fuck that! Europeans gonna use European versions, duh! Swiss can force them into progressive scan anyway!
I did the igr.dol and when I hit the button combo it just brings me back to the gamecube boot up screen
Pico pi install would be even less hassle
I tried using the in game reset by changing it to igr.dol, but it just resets the whole console. Is there any other setting I need to change to make this work?
Not sure. Is it set in the global settings rather than any specific game? Another thing to try is to put igr.dol on the sd2sp2 card as well (just to rule it out). Using the latest version of swiss couldn't hurt either, if you haven't already updated it.
Yep & it still won’t work. Does it only work with the Port 2 memory card slot? I’m using the SD2SP2.
