Thanks Adam. It will be nice to see the West Highland Pullman in service. It won't come cheap though! I'd be looking on their website to see if anything is advertised yet.

At the moment they are running the 'big' pullman on the S&C and Cumbrian Coast almost weekly. Blackpool has had its fair share as a destination. I would hope they'd use the opportunity to capture Edinburgh tourist traffic but there will only be four carriages of passengers on each trip.

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Yes it does seem short. I expect they worked out the likely number of passengers against running costs.

@@cedarcam I believe it's to fit in the loops on the West Highland Extension and maybe on the Kyle and Far North lines.

@@LeslieGilpinRailways If that's not the main reason, it is certainly a factor. For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the route, there are two passing places on the WH extention - Glenfinnan and Arisaig. Unlike the WH line where the loops are between 18 and 20 chains (400 - 440 yds {360 - 400 m for those metrically inclned}), these loops are much shorter. Glenfinnan 15ch (330yds [300m}), Arisaig 16ch (350yds {320m}). Finally, the terminus at Mallaig can handle 6 coaches. If the regular Pullman went there 50% of the passengers (customers?) would have to trek through coaches to get off.

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Ah good point yes. A long time since I was up there with class 37's so I forgot how long the loops are. I did wonder if it was for short platforms but they can keep one coach doors locked.

@@2010ditta I'm told they are doing Scottish Pullmans without competing for the harry potter lot. Expect Pullman trains from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Mallaig and into the lines north of Inverness.

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Freightliner recently bought a few of the old DB Cargo ones for a slightly bigger fleet. Still going strong, doing those overnight runs to Coatbridge + the Felixstowe/Ipswich to Manchester and Liverpool. Very nice locos I think - and much faster than the 66s, so valuable.

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Yes and I think some of the GW Kings were also. I think over the years I became too fond of Brunswick green and so came to see that as the best colour for express steam locos although the Coronations were well suited to maroon. I'm not sure if the current shade of blue on Sir Nigel is the same as the originals but it does look good..

I spoke to that driver today after he brought the West Highland Pullman in - he wasn't aware that the Log train was almost alongside him - if he'd realised he would have waited!

@@LeslieGilpinRailways That was good of him. A lot would set off for devilment. He would be concentrating on his own signal no doubt so I can understand him not being aware of the log train about to pass.
