@@davedear929 basically they don't clean the wagons or locos. DRS have to swap the locos around to clean them, usually when they need other work. Otherwise I believe any cleaning is down to the weather
Excellent video again thanks Les. Given its ultimate destination it seems strange to me that the logs aren't booked via the WCML as a matter of course yet that doesn't seem to be the case in general.
@@johncherrington6080 it is limited I think to 60mph so spends most of it's time in loops and Sidings north of Preston whereas it can run with little disturbance on the S&C.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways that sounds reasonable Les especially as it runs during the middle of the day. In the dim and distant past I was part of LM HQ timetabling organisation with responsibility for scheduling movements on the WCML between Rugby and Gretna Jn. I well remember having to thread class 6 freights around the much faster passenger services on the route and this did indeed involve runnig from loop to loop as slots would allow. That was in the early 90s so pre penodlino days and part of the planning task was working out the platform plans for Carlisle and Preston. They were good days and looking back I feel privileged to have been involved in what for me was a labour of love..
That sounds like a most fantastic job especially when there was lots of freight but before the introduction of the Virgin High Frequency timetable! It must be a nightmare now.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways yes it was an excellent job Les and some years later in Railtrack days I assisted the team tasked with producing the West Coast route mod timetable the aim of which was to demonstrate how Railtrack could deliver their contractual obligations to other operators alongside the access that had been sold to Virgin Trains. It was atough task working out what the Virgin TT needed to be and it's an interesting fact that due to constraints in the West Midlands area (Coventry corridor) paths for the services to/from Birmingham were pretty much fixed and meant that those to/from Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland had to fit round them. The plan north of Preston had to provice access for class 4 and 6 freights every hour. We eventually succeeded to the relief of some very senior people in Railtrack!
Andromeda looks great. I must get a model of her in the Phoenix livery one day. Although her latest livery is stunning. Glad to see ROG has stuck with yellow warning panels. I've probably asked you this before, but do you know what's in the windowless coaches she's hauling? I watched a steam era video focused on The Citadel the other day (I can send the link, if you're interested). I was amazed at how vast Kingmoor used to be back in the 1960s. The Pullmans continue to impress, as do your videos.
Those are barrier cars - used when stock unable to couple directly to the locos are moved. I think in this case it was HST Mk 3s which had been taken north for ScotRail. I doubt anything beside necessary tools are there.
A real feast for the eye, expertly captured in this video. Many thanks, Leslie: your skill and willingness to share your work is greatly appreciated.

Very nice mix of trains and locos, Les. 68 by DRS is always nice... Blue Midland, TPE... and your 37. I do like the shots of the crews mixing, too.
@@ModelTrainOutsider thanks Anthony. If it wasn't for the crews there'd be no trains
Another great selection from Carlisle.
Andromeda was a lucky find, not as many class 37's about these days.
