gift knitting guide! 23 free + paid patterns for practical accessories, modern home decor & trinkets
Hi, I’m Rebecca, a knitter based in Toronto, Canada. Today, I’ll be sharing my gift guide for this upcoming holiday season. I have been really drawn to practical accessories, home decor, and trinkets rather than classic winter wearables (though hats and mittens still make awesome gifts!). So, I hope you find some inspiration and ideas from this video!

I bought a canvas LV bag with my first bonus and within 2 years the purse was cracked/broken in multiple places and the store refused to repair or replace it. I don't know what resale value this crap has. I ended up donating it... well maybe I could buy a fake LV from kislux but these designers/robber barons don't even think about taking a dime from me. This one satisfies my fantasy of many authentic products and I can afford to buy them.

Hello Rebecca, I’ve been hearing several podcasters recently stating they feel pressure to knit a lot so they have enough content. As a fellow knitter consumer, I just enjoy seeing your progress or hear about road blocks you might be facing. You do not need to constantly have new projects! I am a slow knitter and do not have much time. Most of my projects take months and months. So interesting that you are an urban planner! That was my dream job as a kid. I ended up in a completely different career, but I still think urban planner is a cool job! Books and yarn go together well 😊. So nice your hobbies are compatible! Congratulations on your 1 year podcasting anniversary! I like listening to your rambles….😊

Omg an honorary Argentinian! I wasn't knitting much last time I went back to visit family, so I haven't been to many yarn stores there, but my aunts have said that they can get alpaca and wool for really reasonable prices. omg i'm making the wave sweater and as a beginner knitter the instructions are so overwhelming 😭😭 I haven't even made it past placing the stitch markers yet and i've already redone the collar I think six times!! the lack of increase instructions are also terrifying to me and i've never made a colour work sweater before so I feel very overwhelmed. I would definitely still watch your podcast even if you had less WIPs, but talked more about them. I would even think that would make it more relatable, as I also have a full time job and knitting is a hobby. I was talking to a knitting bestie the other day how some of the knitting instagram influencers and pattern designers can cause FOMO or envy because they keep posting pics of themselves knitting in coffee shops and on vacations, while most of us are at work in front of a computer every day 😂. And then you have to remember that it is their job, and you will never have the time to finish as many projects as they do. 😂

Enjoyed your Q&A! I lived in Argentina for 3 years, and I've been to Uruguay since my husband is from there. Both countries are very different but beauitful and worth visiting, especially if you love hiking! Going to Denmark is my dream as well not only for kntting, but to make a 600 km bike trip on my own through entire country!

A bike trip!!! I’m not much of a cyclist but that sounds awesome 🤩🤩

If it's against your skin, it really depends on how sweaty a person you are, but an outerwear sweater of non-superwash wool usually only needs to be washed once a season. I wash mine... uh... like every 5 years maybe.

So many things you said felt like you took the words right out of my mouth. When you were talking about the reasons for starting a TH-cam channel I could almost predict what you were going to say bc I have the exact same reasons! The Sophie scarf was one of the first things I knit, and I remember seeing people complaining about the fact that it was a paid pattern and ‘anyone could figure it out’. Well I could not. I didn’t know how to increase or what type of increase was best, and didn’t know how to do an icord. I didn’t even know what search terms to use if I wanted to try and figure those things out! So I completely agree with you on that! And last thing - I looooove Terrace House too 😌

Haha I was the same! I knit the Sophie Scarf and I tried to figure it out on my own first and my icord edge was so off 😂 so I also ending up purchasing the pattern and no regrets I’m on the Opening New Doors season and it just keeps getting better and better!!

So cool you are an urban planner. My teenage daughter is thinking about this just for combining a meaningful somewhat technical job with something creative. 🙂

Awesome - I’m certain your daughter will love it!! It really does combine creativity and technical work together and I think you can really have an impact on society so it’s very meaningful to me ☺️

Just like @hipknithooray, I'm also in long range planning and I love it! I work at a smaller firm so I get to work on a wide range of projects and definitely get to do work that is both technical and/or creative. I bet your daughter would love it!

I was so excited when I heard you say you’re an urban planner! I’m working towards that right now, through a feminist geographer lens!

Cool!! One of my classmates looked at cycling infrastructure from a feminist geographer lens and it was super interesting

@ i love that kind of work, it’s so interesting. Urban planning/urban geography/geography all have such great overlap with feminism and feminist theory.
