I would definitely still watch your podcast even if you had less WIPs, but talked more about them. I would even think that would make it more relatable, as I also have a full time job and knitting is a hobby. I was talking to a knitting bestie the other day how some of the knitting instagram influencers and pattern designers can cause FOMO or envy because they keep posting pics of themselves knitting in coffee shops and on vacations, while most of us are at work in front of a computer every day 😂. And then you have to remember that it is their job, and you will never have the time to finish as many projects as they do. 😂
I really appreciate all the details you put into your podcast. I like that you put up pictures and text to explain the patterns and yarns. It is so helpful. You’re doing a great job, keep it up.
Hello Rebecca, I’ve been hearing several podcasters recently stating they feel pressure to knit a lot so they have enough content. As a fellow knitter consumer, I just enjoy seeing your progress or hear about road blocks you might be facing. You do not need to constantly have new projects! I am a slow knitter and do not have much time. Most of my projects take months and months. So interesting that you are an urban planner! That was my dream job as a kid. I ended up in a completely different career, but I still think urban planner is a cool job! Books and yarn go together well 😊. So nice your hobbies are compatible! Congratulations on your 1 year podcasting anniversary! I like listening to your rambles….😊
You had me at the Office, but when you mentioned Parks & Rec you went one level higher if that is even possible! Love this video, your podcast, and your honesty on the impact of social media on your hobbies and how conscious you are of doing what you love for what you love. Also I loved your honey vest episodes a lot as they were very relatable in terms of finding your resources, starting over etc. Thanks for another awesome episode, it´s always nice to finish a hard day listening to you.
What a wonderful podcast. I loved getting to know you. I will watch your podcast and have subscribed. Now that I have more background about you, I feel like I just gained a friend. Love your knits and continue to do what you do that makes you happy. Don’t worry about us and trying to make content (FO’s) for us. Take your time and do it for the joy. We’ll still be here and it’s great to watch someone go through the making process. We learn as you go and you’re not rushed. It’s a win-win. Thanks and see you next time!
I jumped into knitting a sweater after making 1 Sophie scarf and a hat after like 2 weeks of knitting. I knit the lakes pullover by Ozetta and although I don’t really wear it (partially because I dont like the yarn I chose), but I learned SO much about sweater construction like German short rows, increasing and decreasing. It really set me up for success on the project I did after it
Oooo that’s amazing for a first sweater!! I guess it really just comes down to learning by doing so you just gotta go for it! I would’ve been intimated by that sweater though so bravo 👏🏼👏🏼
Absolutely agreed outloud when you were talking about the needle situation when starting knitting garments! I taught my daughter to knit and this was the biggest eye opener for me. I have so many needles so I never think about it! She was totally overwhelmed by needed types, length etc etc. Awesome ❤ video!!!
Ahh I'm also an urban planner by day and a knitter by night haha!!! Love the job as well and can relate so much about the part that no one really knows about the field of urban planning. I work in the field of mobility and transport planning in Germany 🫶🏻
I recently heard someone in high school had a project for their geography class to design a community in SimCity 😅 so I am hoping more people learn about the career cause it’s really fun! I used to work in transportation planning as well!
So cool you are an urban planner. My teenage daughter is thinking about this just for combining a meaningful somewhat technical job with something creative. 🙂
Awesome - I’m certain your daughter will love it!! It really does combine creativity and technical work together and I think you can really have an impact on society so it’s very meaningful to me ☺️
Just like @hipknithooray, I'm also in long range planning and I love it! I work at a smaller firm so I get to work on a wide range of projects and definitely get to do work that is both technical and/or creative. I bet your daughter would love it!
Enjoyed your Q&A! I lived in Argentina for 3 years, and I've been to Uruguay since my husband is from there. Both countries are very different but beauitful and worth visiting, especially if you love hiking! Going to Denmark is my dream as well not only for kntting, but to make a 600 km bike trip on my own through entire country!
@ i love that kind of work, it’s so interesting. Urban planning/urban geography/geography all have such great overlap with feminism and feminist theory.
Loved the knit and chat video :) I’m also wanting to knit a red jumper for Christmas and Chinese new year, would love to see what you end up knitting! 🧶
Oh the clematis sweater would be such a good option!! I was thinking either a stick season sweater or a long sleeve ballerina wrap cardigan. Would be fun to do a mini red sweater for CNY kal 🤗
So many things you said felt like you took the words right out of my mouth. When you were talking about the reasons for starting a TH-cam channel I could almost predict what you were going to say bc I have the exact same reasons! The Sophie scarf was one of the first things I knit, and I remember seeing people complaining about the fact that it was a paid pattern and ‘anyone could figure it out’. Well I could not. I didn’t know how to increase or what type of increase was best, and didn’t know how to do an icord. I didn’t even know what search terms to use if I wanted to try and figure those things out! So I completely agree with you on that! And last thing - I looooove Terrace House too 😌
Haha I was the same! I knit the Sophie Scarf and I tried to figure it out on my own first and my icord edge was so off 😂 so I also ending up purchasing the pattern and no regrets I’m on the Opening New Doors season and it just keeps getting better and better!!
Thanks for your thoughtful answers!! Urban planning sounds super cool and fulfilling! I went to Peru in 2022 and had a fantastic time - I hope you and your boyfriend make it to South America, it sounds like it will be an amazing trip especially since his family is Argentinian. And I agree about the short rows - even if you’re a beginner, I recommend doing them. On my first sweater (the Step by Step sweater by Florence Miller), I practiced casting on, doing the folded collar, and knitting the short rows about three times on some scrap yarn before I did it for real and it really helped build my confidence in the increases and turns!
Ahh I would be so happy to go to Peru!! The landscapes there look unreal 🤩 The step by step also looks like a great first sweater recommendation!l Especially with the tutorial video
Omg an honorary Argentinian! I wasn't knitting much last time I went back to visit family, so I haven't been to many yarn stores there, but my aunts have said that they can get alpaca and wool for really reasonable prices. They have a reall cool fiber crafts culture in general. Paige from Two Purls In a Pod just posted a video about the beginning of her South American trip, if you haven't watched it!
I’m using the mini crop puff by the wandering flock as a base!! But I modified the stitch counts and proportions because I sized up needles and added stripes!
On the topic of "influencing"--influencing people to create their own garments is great! Think about all the people you've inspired to opt out of buying a fast fashion sweater and create their own high quality heirloom pieces :)
If it's against your skin, it really depends on how sweaty a person you are, but an outerwear sweater of non-superwash wool usually only needs to be washed once a season. I wash mine... uh... like every 5 years maybe.

Ah thank you for this comment!! It’s reassuring to hear haha 😅 I’m glad you enjoy the videos 💖💖

Ahhh thank you Rebeca!! Sorry to hear you’ve had a hard day but I’m glad that I could cheer you up a bit with company ☺️

Baby garments are amazing for learning garments lol
Ah so true!! I never thought of knitting baby garments but you can try out so many construction methods and techniques that way

Yes!! Especially since I learned to crochet first and you just need one hook for everything, it was a weird change haha

Happy 1 year TH-cam anniversary! 🥳 This was a great video.

A bike trip!!! I’m not much of a cyclist but that sounds awesome 🤩🤩
I was so excited when I heard you say you’re an urban planner! I’m working towards that right now, through a feminist geographer lens!
Cool!! One of my classmates looked at cycling infrastructure from a feminist geographer lens and it was super interesting
@ i love that kind of work, it’s so interesting. Urban planning/urban geography/geography all have such great overlap with feminism and feminist theory.
Loved the knit and chat video :)
I’m also wanting to knit a red jumper for Christmas and Chinese new year, would love to see what you end up knitting! 🧶
I’m thinking of the clematis sweater!! But I also think a cardigan would be more practical so I’m so torn

My school had a knitting club too, i stoped once I got older but when the pandemic hit I picked it back up.
It was lovely to get to know you better! Great advice regarding Sophie Scarf for beginners.
Another question, from where are your family orginaly?
My family is Chinese! Both my parents are from Hong Kong ☺️
argentina is an amazing destination for fiber - you should totally go!
I haven’t done much research on it so that’s so good to hear!! I would love to go next year ☺️
Love this! What pattern are you using for the cute sweater ornaments?
I’m using the mini crop puff by the wandering flock as a base!! But I modified the stitch counts and proportions because I sized up needles and added stripes!

Happy 1yr! I’m in the Toronto area and would love to knit get together.
