    Hey man, is there any faster way to export/bounce final tracks once you tuned them with melodyne? I mean, the usual way is to create a new track, bus it and record it in real time again. But, is there any other way to do it?

    • @malcomowenflood
      @malcomowenflood 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes! I actually have another video on this, if you search melodyne on my channel you should find it (it’s old) but essential the answer is put melodyne on the track in Pro Tools, engage it as if you were going to scan the info in, and then track freeze it. Unfreeze and the data should be retained in your Pro Tools session. Do all your tuning and then use Track Commit and you should be all set! Now, that’s if you use melodyne as a plug-in. If you use the Pro Tools ARA melodyne mode, you just have to click off of melodyne mode (back to no eleastic audio for example) and it will ask you if you want to commit what’s been done so far. Click yes and you should be all set! Hope this helps!

      Yes! Well, Avid kinda always did. Structure Free is a sampler that's existed for ages in Pro Tools, but it's pretty old school and not really want you're likely looking. I'd look into their newer Pro Tools Sketch features and see if that is what you're looking for! Pro Tools Sketch was released with Pro Tools 2023.9, last year.

    Nice,thanks for sharing. We didn't like it on our tiny phone speaker but the mix sounds excellent through decent Focal monitors. Dig it,way cool...subscribed. 👍 Korneff is one of the few 3rd party plugin companies that we use in addition to the stock vst's included w Samplitude and Studio One. A couple of Korneff's and a simple DAW like audacity will work! Every plugin they make has a dozen different uses while always nailing the original intent.

    I have a perpetual license from 2018 and did updates almost every year, so my question is when the update expires, Do I stay on the latest version I updated to, or back to the original 2018? Thanks in advance..

    • @malcomowenflood
      @malcomowenflood 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good question! You'll retain whatever Pro Tools version you updated to as long they were gained via your Pro Tools Perpetual Licenses support plan and not via the subscription model (which would only temporarily grant you access to a newer version of Pro Tools. For example, I currently am using Pro Tools 2023. If I subscribed today, I could download and use Pro Tools 2024, but would not have access to it once my subscription ended - since I only have perpetual access to PT 2023. However, if my active support plan from my perpetual license got me Pro Tools 2024, I would be in luck and have perpetual access to it. Hope that helps!

  • @corygcm5303

    I would fade a mix buss pre master buss. If you have to have a long fade the master buss is pre signal chain so you would be feeding your mix buss compression and signal path with a decreased amount of signal. Better to put your processing on a mix aux and fade the aux pre master.

    • @malcomowenflood
      @malcomowenflood 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good note! And I agree, I actually create my own “master bus aux” rather than using a master fader for that reason (shown above the master fader in this video, but I didn’t really want to go into routing too deeply in a more beginner focused video). The other thing to account for is if any of the plugins on your final chain have a noise floor (which a lot do) - gotta make sure that noise floor also gets faded all the way down to infinity.

    it's worth spending the extra money so you don't have to put it on your mix bus because that shit will happen ALL the time especially when you've been working for hours and you're ready to be done for the day. I just did my calibration, I haven't mixed with it yet, I've had good results with using a cheap bluetooth speaker for mixing, I don't feel so great about spending all this money, I hope I do. It's sort of convoluted software with a few bugs I've had to contact support numerous times

    Avid will not support my version of pro tools. So perpetual license, does not mean forever. It doesn’t even mean 10 years

    • @malcomowenflood
      @malcomowenflood 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately perpetual only means that you own that pro tools license forever - not that avid (or your computers operating system for that matter) will offer support for it. So regardless to if you own a license, the tools we use to run that version of Pro Tools can still outgrow our license. Many larger studios still run older Mac Pro Towers for this reason - if they update their computers they’d have to update their Pro Tools licenses (and potentially their recording interfaces), and if they update their Pro Tools license, they’d have to update their computers. Not an inexpensive step for anyone to make!

    I have been a Logic user for years, and about two years ago I decided to try the Artist ProTools subscription. I wanted to learn the DAW. I worked on it, and fell for its editing abilities. Last year I had purchased a SSL12 interface, and I kept getting glitches. I went back to Sweetwater, and they told me about the Avid Mbox Studio, and here’s the kicker; with this purchase Avid threw in a perpetual version of ProTools Studio. I had had problems with not having enough tracks with Artist. The Avid deal was phenomenal. I am now a ProTools user, and the Mbox Studio is perfect for my situation. By the way, your TH-cam casts are useful, and helpful. Thanks…

    I think you may have saved me a lot of time and money! Thank you! Do you know if upgrading an older perpetual license using this method is free? I had a perpetual license for Protools 11 for years (I never updated it or my laptops OS because of the iLok ‘release limit’), and when my laptop finally died the other day I thought that I’d need to repurchase EVERYTHING… but if this method works with all perpetual licenses and is free, that will save me a good chunk of money (it’s just the laptop I’ll be selling a limb for)

    • @malcomowenflood
      @malcomowenflood 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, you absolutely can automate the trim layer in Pro Tools! The underlying automation will still be retained but also follow the trim automation as well. Example being if you have a really detailed vocal automation in a chorus but wanted it overall to be 2 db louder, you could automate the chorus chunk of the DAW's timeline to be 2db louder with the Trim Automation, and all that detailed automation under it would still continue as well. Short answer, it will work exactly how you hoped haha

    There are also studio monitors, like some from Adam Audio, that accept the upload of a profile (a frequency response map made using SoundID Reference Measure and a reference mic) directly to the speakers. Once the profile is loaded to the monitors there is no need for the plugin, SoundID, or the old reference 4 when using monitors.

    Interesting that I stumbled on to this video. I cant say to much but I work freelance. It's not a company I work for, its an individual entrepreneur who makes his money from various music projects. The role is basically a bit of everything from sound design, song creation, mixing and engineering. Its highly intensive creative work. I get paid just a little bit above minimum wage and its nowhere like enough for the effort I put in so every month I struggle to pay bills etc which adds to the stress. I'm creatively drained, stressed, and the creative battery is running on fumes and I get no joy from the music I create whatsoever and dread starting every day. But I need to work, don't have any other options or skills aside from music. My health has definitely suffered. Your video has given me some food for thought.

      One of the biggest advantages of working freelance, in my opinion, is that we get to decide our own wage. It’s not that simple of course, but itd a good way to try and look at it. If you’re not getting what you require, I’d encourage you to try and charge enough so that you do. Your client needs you as much as you need them, probably more so!

    For anyone out there still discovering which DAW is gonna be theirs for the long haul, as well as wanting to check out SoundID Reference, Cubase allows you to monitor SoundID through a seperate channel called "Control Room" which is essentially a virtual, built in well.. control room. Imagine that What's great about it, however is allows you to monitor your mix through SoundID Reference on the side, essentially in parallel to your full mix, but with no connection to your actual mix levels. Control room monitors ONLY how you hear it in the room you are in. If you forget to turn off sonarworks before you export, it is 100% fine because you literally don't have to! It comes AFTER your stereo out so if your mix sounds balanced through SoundID, loudness levels look good, because the end goal of SoundID is to make youor room sound as "flat" as possible, you can confidently assume that your mixes should translate pretty well on other devices, especially given the translation options that are built in. No chance of ruining an entire mix with it at the end of your mixbus chain haha (don't ask if i know from experience) Fun fact, Control Room also is where you control built in talk back, cue mixes for artists, multiple sets of actual speakers if you have them, loudness meters, and some insanely good international and platform specific loudness meters/phasescopes/wavescopes/VU's all built in STOCK and completely customizable in the SuperVision plugin. It's EXTREMELY powerful and extremely sick. Anyways, awesome video! It's not a perfect plugin, but it certainly helps! (I usually only set it to about 40-50% and trust my ears for the rest)

      Such a great feature of Cubase, and I certainly hope other DAWs implement it as well!

      I did the same thing in Bitwig by unplugging the output of the master channel and creating an audio channel that monitors the master and outputs directly to my speakers.
