hi thanks for the video. its confusing indeed, can you explain what this does that e.g. fabfilter pro Q (3/4) or ozone doesnt?

Update $500 a year insane
I purchased the Moises VST plug-in expecting it to offer real-time stem processing in my DAW, only to discover it works exclusively as a standalone tool. Unfortunately, there was no free trial, no clear documentation, and no videos explaining how the VST functions before purchasing. When I emailed their support team just an hour after buying to kindly request a refund, I received a generic response referencing their terms and conditions, with no consideration for my concerns. This lack of flexibility is disappointing, especially when many companies-whether digital or physical-allow for returns if a product doesn’t meet expectations. It’s frustrating that they don’t offer a basic level of transparency or customer service, which feels more like a cash grab than a customer-first approach. If you’re considering this product, proceed with caution.
Thank you Malcom!
What's track freeze/committing? My pro tools only crashes or goes slowly when I am running out of space on my computer.
Malcolm, what headphones are you using? HD650? Do you use them with sonarworks? Thank's for the video!
Yep, I'm using the 650's most of the time! I also have some Audio-Technica closed back headphones but the majority of my mixing is done with my Neumann KH310's and the Sennheiser HD650's! Got most of my rig linked in the video description if you're interested!
Wow, these comments are so depressing--they confirm my experience that PT 10 on an old Mac is still superior, it's what i use--and that planned/forced obsolescence is 100% pure evil and deserves to be punished cruelly.
Money-grabbing f***s
PT10 was really stable and great for tracking but as a mix engineer I'd definitely never go back. Track freeze /committing, and apple silicon support have made it incredibly fast and powerful!
Had PT 10/11 since 2015 but needed a new version after upgrading to Mac OS 12.6. I finally got PT Studio ‘24 perpetual after subscription expired that came with MBox Studio. Perpetual Vibes are back.
Nice!😊
Very good, but why not use a standard plug in from Pro tools, to let peple that dont have the same as you understand what is going on......I gave up on the video after about a minute...sorry I dont have FabFilters...
Pro Tools doesn't make any plugins that I would use for Sidechaining.
@@malcomowenflood I just purchased FabFilters Pro-Q4....wow.......
I need assist in your knowledges using m audio 192/14 air interface, trying to get my signal to read in PROTOOLS but can only hear it through headphones jack in the m audio, the mpc is signaling in the M audio but how to read or see the signal in PROTOOLS,I looked in this tutorial followed steps maybe a wiring input output signal needed other than hearing through headphones?
First thing to check is your Pro Tools Playback Engine shows your interface as selected - also check this in the audio midi settings if you're using a Mac. I'm not familiar with that interface in personal experience so I can't help too much here I'm afraid!
This has happened to me so many times over the years... just trawling the manual for info after it happened again today, gave up, googled it and here you are! Thank you... Been driving me nuts for so long...
thans man, I appreciate this friendly beginners video, <3
Hi Malcom, great video! Maybe you could help me out. I’m creating my own templates for film scoring in Pro Tools, and the way I’m doing it is by adding almost all my orchestral virtual instruments, synths, drums-basically every instrument I use for film scoring-into the template, organized in folders. All the tracks are inactive, and I use a shortcut to activate an instrument track whenever I need it. The problem is that my .ptx session file is 300MB, and every auto-backup file is also 300MB, so my backup folder fills up really fast. Is there any way to make the session file smaller? I know there are a lot of tracks (about 500), but I’ve seen Spitfire’s templates, and they seem much lighter than mine. I hope I explained that clearly! If you have any advice, that would be amazing, but no worries if you can’t. Keep up the great work! Thanks.
I got tricked into giving up my perpetual license for subscription. The way it was explained to me was that I wouldn't be able to use ANY of my plug-ins with an updated Pro Tools. I knew that about getting an upgrade, but he said I'd loose them with the next update. My pissedsivity is at its highest. Now I'm stuck paying monthly for something that had been working great. Thinking about getting out of Pro Tools completely.
Have you logged into your Avid / Pro Tools account to see if your perpetual licenses are still sitting there? All of mine (going back to Pro Tools 7 I think) are still there and I’ve subscribed in a couple instances for one off projects without losing those licenses
This is a VERY helpful video. Thank you so much
IDK man, the difference is pretty subtle. I feel like the same outcome could have easily been achieved with some simple EQing and multiband dynamics.
I 100% agree that a similar result could be achieved - stock plugins are all anyone really needs to mix in most cases - but the point of the experiment isn’t to make them the same, it was to mix through it and compare the differences in where the mixes landed and how your mix chain can dramatically impact your decision making
Keyboard focus is on though I am unable to cut with A and S! Sos!!
Odd! My first instinct is to double check what cursor mode you’re using with pro tools. If you don’t have it as a selection tool it wouldn’t be able to perform those specific hotkeys for example. Second thing is to make double sure you have the Edit Keyboard Focus A/Z selected - as there is one on the group menu and on the mix page (I think) that aren’t the same thing and would disable those commands. You’ve probably already checked that but mentioning just in case. Last, double check your keyboard input language - some weird mapping between your keyboard and Pro Tools could throw things for a loop! Final thoughts: you might have to reset preferences your Pro Tools preferences, or try manually assigning shortcuts - but hopefully you get it solved before that!
Was the Kemper AC20 from the one it came with and... lol I like that light in the background what is that?
Yes! It’s the legendary Morgan AC20 profile by rmpacheco (free on the Kemper Rig Exchange). And that’s just my salt rock lamp - if you’re referring to the orange light at the back of my video!
@ yea I have a bunch of plugins but the Kemper has fullness that’s unique but in the mix no one know. Thanks for tip on the light
Thank You so much!! You solved my problem 🤜🏾
Couldn’t really notice any difference!
What if I’m using the older version protools 9 and my plug-ins are grayed out not because of update and it’s a template with all stock plug ins? How can I active them?
Thanks Malcolm, your suggestion fixed my problem. This has happened to me in Logic Pro 10.8 running in Rosetta mode with Melodyne Editor 5 (ARA).
How to skip plugin scan in startup time
Always crashes my Reaper session. One of only 3 plugins to ever do that. Have to save before and after and print anything i do.
yeah idk... i distinctly remember seeing an ad for this on insta a few years ago or something, and besides everyone (including me) being generally pissed off by the interface in the ad making it look a lot like a piece of hardware, i was seeing a lot of people wishing they hadn't bought it. i decided to try the demo and yeah i'm glad i didn't buy it too. happy for anyone it helps i guess but i dont think its a key component to a good mix/master or anything.
I found this video very helpful. It solved a lot of my problems connecting my um2 interface to pro tools. Got it to recognize it and i can see the signal and record it but i cant hear anything. Phones plugged into interface. Ideas?

Hello; I purchased Pro Tools around 2012, & am somewhat of a casual user. I got the perpetual license with a year support 12-31-18, but am having some issues with my Alienware computer. If it get's scrubbed at the repair shop, will I be able to reload my perpetual license, without too much issue? I have the registration card with the code. Again, I use it sparingly, but hope to get more involved with it someday.
I won't buy it
Hello Thank you answer my question...
you are a life saver
So I just bought Pro Tools Studio annual subscription but then I realized that I already have Pro Tools Perpetual. It’s says my plan is expired and gives me the option to Renew & Upgrade to PT Studio License Upgrade or PT Studio subscription. Did I make a BIG Mistake?
EVH ... THE BROWN SOUND !!! THE SWEET COMPROMISE ! GOOD STUFF BRO !!!
thanks for the video! seems like this tool is not for me. but boy, do i love wavesfactory spectre. what a plugin that is
To give some more updated long term feedback, I haven’t been using it that much in practice. But, when I do find a use for it, it’s perfect. Glad it’s in my kit and might need to keep pushing its limits more before I finalize my long term thoughts but so far I’m glad I have Bloom in my arsenal of plugins! I’ll check out Wavesfactory Spectre, is it similar?
@@malcomowenflood very simple plugin, similar to saturn but better (no crossovers, M/S/L/R per band). i'm using it constantly with de-emphasis enabled. sounds better than digital eq in >50% of cases

Amazon is good to buy perpetual license?
I'd probably suggest that you try to find a music specific retailer, like Sweetwater, to buy anything from Avid or Pro Tools. Reason being is customer support. If something went wrong, I'd want the customer support person to have some understanding of what Pro Tools is, and how their perpetual vs subscription licensing works!

Hi Bro, you have clarified many doubts in this video so thank you so much and really appreciated!. I have few more questions and hope you can clarify them as well so thank you again in advance. 1. There are perpetual license available in different sites and there is a change in price. Some sites the price is little bit lower and some others the price is little bit higher so what is the difference? what will be the reason? is there any difference or changes in the software and its updates? 2. The point you have mentioned like after buying the perpetual license, we can upgrade it after 4 years but I didn't see it in PT web so could you please clarify this. 3. Which version would be better to buy, I know that the higher versions always better but still since you are a PT user for long time, which version you would recommend to buy like artist or studio? 4. If I buy the artist perpetual now then is it possible to upgrade to studio after or within 4 years? or in the future by paying only the upgraded less amount?
Hey there, thanks for watching and I'm glad it helped! I'll do my best with your questions: 1 - I can't really answer this one. You'll have to carefully review these offerings to ensure they are the version you are intending to compare. Always suggest reaching out to the support of these websites as their ability to provide good customer service is a good indicator to if you should buy from them! If they don't seem to understand your Pro Tools related questions, I'd move on to another provider to get your perpetual license! 2 - I think you misunderstood me on this, but I made this video a long time ago,. so I'm not sure which part of the video you're referring to exactly. I think what I meant is that at about 4 years of owning the perpetual license, you have broken even on your price vs if you had subscriped to Pro Tools for that same period of time. So at 4 years, owning a perpetual license of Pro Tools becomes cheaper, since you aren't paying beyond that 4 years. But up until 4 years, it's cheaper to be subscribed to Pro Tools. 3 - If you're a professional user, Pro Tools Studio is a great option. That is what I use and it's perfect for me. Pro Tools Artist would be too limiting to me personally, but for most musicians, it would likely be perfect. So if you're a musician first, Pro Tools Artist. If you're a Music Producer, studio owner, mix engineer, etc - Pro Tools Studio. If you're doing post work for television and extremely massive sessions, Pro Tools Ultimate. 4 - Good question, and I'm not sure how they are handling cross grades right now. To get up to date info on this, and all Pro Tools questions, shooting AVID's/Pro Tools sales support an email is definitely recommended. I can't seem to find any cross grade information from Pro Tools right now, which is disappointing! Hope this helps and thanks for the comment!
Hello bro, thank you so much for your detailed comments and clarifications point by point. You are awesome and appreciate your efforts. Almost all the questions and doubts are clear now and will do the needful. Good job bro, expecting more videos from you and best wishes for your future works 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤

i think u were too conservative with the highs on your pre-god particle mix. Main audible difference is the brightness.
The first mix you played, to me (on my new monitors) sounded really flat--congrats! I presume that would be the mix to send to the ME to bend into perfection or is that the master? Yes the god particle mix sounds better (more exited) but this is sooo tricky because just bumping up the sub and widening the highs will probably make any mix "sound better". However, the work flow is really nice and I love when there are targets to hit and reference.
Does the $1500 perpetual license come with all the plugins???
Love God Particle. Makes stemming fun, but GP version of your track definitely sounded better 🙌
which daw is this?
I use Pro Tools as my daw - but The God Particle plugin should work in any daw you’d like!
