How To: Valve Adjustment on XR650L/XR600
This is just a quick video showing you how to adjust and check your valves on your XR650L/XR600. This normally is done (at least checks) every 4000 miles per the factory service manual or when your bike becomes hard to start or has a ticking noise.
Make sure prior to adjustments your motor is cool (I'd recommend letting it sit overnight)
Below are some specs used in the video!
OEM Specs (NOT Hotcam):
Intake Valves: .004"
Exhaust Valves: .005"
Lock nut: 18ft/lbs
All valves are adjusted on the compression stroke. The trick to always get it on this stroke is to do what I showed in the video where you watch the intake valves go down and return up- then immediately start looking for TDC as you turn the motor over counterclockwise- SLOWLY! :)
As always, feel free to comment below if you have any questions!

How To: Dave's Mod on XR650L [5 Minutes - fixed audio w. additional tips]
มุมมอง 23K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a basic mod that helps throttle response significantly! In addition to Dave's Mod many other people also buy a UNI air filter, install a new exhaust, and desnorkel their bike. In total this cost me $14 rather than the dynojet kits which are significantly more $$$. In my case, I have a UNI air filter and bought an XR's Only Header & Exhaust following this mod I did. How To: Check Cam Timing on an XR650L [1-Min]
มุมมอง 11K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a brief video showing you how to check the cam timing. Basically, your cam timing may be off due to your timing chain being worn out or it jumped a tooth due to a a faulty tensioner or more likely a mistake that was made upon an attempt at reassembly assuming your engine has been opened before. The marks being slightly not flushed is not a huge deal unless your hearing timing chain nois...

How To: Adjust Chain on XR650L [See Description]
มุมมอง 16K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a simple video to show people how to adjust their chain on their XR650L. The big takeaway is that it's better to leave the chain slightly looser than too tight as that would cause far less damage [Less stress on countershaft, sprockets, and chain]. This is a bit old so idk if i'll get an answer for that, but when i tighten the right axle nut the chain spacer often will spin out of its groove, and its a real pain in the ass. I had it all straightened up but after a wood ride i gotta do it all again, any tips for that ?

  • @chucksterrr
    @chucksterrr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi! You forgot one crucial step. After tightening the axle, before tightening the 4 pinch bolts, you should let the bike sit on the wheel, and with the brake on, compress the suspension a few times, to get the fork tubes aligned where they want to sit on the axle, this way preventing adverse handling, or binding. Thank you.

    Just recently bought my XR650 with this mod done to it. Battery is woefully undersized ( 14 A/Hr vs 19 and 210 CCA vs 285 CCA for a Shorei in stock configuration). Doing this mod is overworking the battery since it doesn’t have much capacity and shortening its life. These Shorei batteries aren’t cheap so stressing it is not a good idea. Second point is now you have a rats nest of wiring on top of the air box. Honda puts a lot of thought into their bikes and the stock location enables easy access to the battery, fuses, and CDI in case of emergencies. When and if your bike craps out, if you do this mod you have to remove the two bolts to remove the seat. Not something you want to do off-road riding to replace the CDI with your spare (a known issue with the CDI). So now you have an underpowered battery, fuses, and CDI exposed to moisture all in a location not easily accessible. This is IMHO a VERY BAD idea if you consider the negatives of doing a mod just for looks. I’m in the process of putting my bike back to the way it’s supposed to be.

    Question... I just got my '23 XR650L and plan on doing a Yoshi RS-2 slip on and de-smogging... I live at about 4750ft above sea level..... Would you recommend de-snorkel and 158 main for this? should I start a bit leaner on the main? What do you think? And, is there a handy chart on what others have done? or a 'basic jet guide' similar to what JD Jet Kits puts in their DR-Z400 kit??

    • @one_terrabike3151
      @one_terrabike3151 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Consider buying 52 & 155 jets and the standard Dave's Mod 55 & 158 jets. It's always a bit of experimenting. If 55 requires no choke use the 52. And if you have black smoke or a super black colored spark plug tip on using the 158, use the 155. Hope this helps!
