However, by making a few of them short I cant go into detail as to why it needs to be done or why it would break or how to check the part ...and ect. Went from the stock jet up to a 152.5 to help with backfiring/lean, which helped a little bit but not enough. Now I have a 155 which seems a bit too rich, so I guess it's time to try this! I also did Dave's Mod to the carb, so hopefully this will help. I need to order one of those smog pump blockoff kits too, the backfiring has always annoying me so much on this bike.
Update: Just did this after work and WOW - made such a dramatic improvement I really can't believe it. Bike has a much deeper more throaty and overall meaner sound, doesn't bog down at all now, and backfiring went away probably 75%. Can't wait to do the smog delete, it will be a whole new machine! I seriously can not believe how much potential these bikes have locked away behind a bunch of emissions nonsense. With this mod in-particular, just wow... one piece of plastic and a $5 jet have been robbing me of who knows how much power all these years.

one _TerraBike ya i got some stuff to extend the brackets. haha it does stink that i have to raise the turn signals to get full turn . hope your out chasing its upper 30's and wet hahaha
I wish I could tell you it's purpose but I simply can't 🤣... My guess though would be to intentionally restrict airflow to make the bike run leaner for the sake of emissions as that's why most people remove it like I did. By removing it the bike gets more airflow which is needed when rejetting it to be richer now that I did the Dave's Mod, have a UNI filter, and an exhaust
ONE_ TerraBike aye thanks for the quick reply. I may need to leave all that crud on, I’ll be moving to Germany and I heard they have very strict Emission standards. I’ll probably have to buy that stock smog pump too 😅
Try going onto a FB Board and seeing if someone will just give one to you and you pay shipping... Most people just junk them as they are *that* useless to them bc they hate the crackle, pop noise
I'll have to see if I still have the piece I drilled out 😂. If I do I'd absolutely do that for you! As far as performance and sound from my experience though... It's sounds deeper, slightly louder and for performance it reduced the backfire from rarely to never 👌
Absolutely lol...also, I found the snorkel so I could temporarily reinstall it, but I'm uncertain if I have a good enough mic to actually catch the sound difference. As for power-- what would you like to see for me to test that? I can see if my top end speed is changed lol?
@@one_terrabike3151 thank you for address my request. Try to do a before and after exhaust sound; one at idle, 2and revving the throttle, and finally a drive by with the XR650L!

When drilling the rivets it's nice to know what size the rivet is or the drill bit you used next time

I use turn signals that are integrated into the hand guards now! You might like the appearance a bit more 😁

I just tried to desnorkle but when I tried to drill the rivets out they just started spinning ...
Try using a larger bit too see if that helps.
