Nice little tidbit of info on the black plastic piece with the hole! I usually use the "two finger" method. My bike is a 2018 and bought used, so no owners manual. No biggie! Gots you here to answer questions! BTW, I used your video on the Daves Mod. Young man, you are cut and dried and VERYinformative on what you put out. Thank you for assisting a 54 year old fella!
Thanks for the video. It is indeed a simple task. You mentioned the black plastic piece to be used as a guide. Do you set your maximum slack to the height of that plastic piece? Also, does the bike need to be completely off the ground? Thanks
Not to the top of it exactly...more like the top of the chain won't go above the top of the dot on the plastic piece...not very scientific but does the job 🤣. Also, no it doesn't have to be suspended however I found it to be more consistent if I did it that way as if it's left on a slope and in gear the top or bottom can become very, very taunt and give inaccurate readings... If done on the ground ensure you're on a level surface! And I appreciate you for watching! 🙂
Also make sure to re-check the chain tension with your full weight on the bike at a few spots... the weight will lift the swing-arm and tighten the chain. There may be tight spots in the chain as well. Awesome vid by the way, thanks!
Where did ya get that front sprocket cover? I have been buying lil red anodized parts but that is cool cause I tried a 16 tooth in the front and had to do some modifications to the stock cover . Thanks man hope that build went well and your ready to rip!
XRs Only. Probably would rub with a 16t sprocket. Most people run a 42t sprocket in the rear instead. Stock is probably your best option at the moment! Hope this helps!
For sure man I actually looked on XRs only and seen one wasn’t sure if it was what ya had and something that fits from trial and error vs something that doesn’t seems better these days! Thanks for the help I will be waiting for more XR videos
@@one_terrabike3151I'm having the same issue and I am holding both nuts with wrenches but they want to turn as I tighten the nuts! Also, my bike is in first gear and not sure why that would make a difference.
I bought mine from XR's Only, but unless the company gets reworked I can't recommend ordering from them as customer support and shipping times are HORRIBLE. Look at the ones made by Hemisphere Off-road as that's an awesome company!
Adjusting chain slack while the wheel is off the ground right, so will the chain slack get tighter or looser when its off the the stand and rider sitting on the bike?
Unfortunately you won't be seeing that video from me anytime soon. I'm currently quite satisfied with the performance of the stock carb with the dave's mod 😁. Maybe in the years to come though! 💪
@@one_terrabike3151 I did the Dave's mod (thanks for the vid, by the way!) but my bike jerks a lot when riding 20 mph in 2nd with almost closed throttle... I've cleaned it out three times, but still no luck. Any ideas? :)
@@GreaseAndGravel does this happen while accelerating or decelerating? It sounds like the bike is just trying to engine break which some could perceive as jerking but I doubt you'd be commenting if it was just that 👌
I actually have! If you set the bike back on the ground with the kickstand down using my method it's *exactly* where it needs to be 😎. This way is much more consistent IMO. Try it out if you doubt it

The 2-3 finger method is great! Also, I appreciate you watching the channel! Let me know if you run into any issues and need assistance :)
Just picked up my first offroad bike in a 2023 xr650l. Your stuff has been great.
Great to hear! Let me know if you have any questions in the future as you get more miles on it! :)
Just got my 01 xr650L…. Binge watching.
Love this channel.🇺🇸
I really appreciate that! :) Let me know if I can help!
Most motorcycles have this system the measuring wheel on both sides makes it super easy
Exactly! Ride On! :)
Why does the half moon adjustment cantilever keep moving when I try to tighten down the nut. It turns with a nut. Is driving me crazy. LOL
Same here I need help

I've got one releasing tomorrow morning! Valve adjustment! :)
as soon as i go to tighten down the right nut, the spacer turns. what am I doing wrong>
You need to hold the axle on the opposite side (if this is what you are asking). Sorry for the late reply!
@@one_terrabike3151 I finally put it in gear and put tension on the tire and boom.

I try to keep stuff pretty exact 😂. Thanks for watching!
Where can I order one of those "front sprocket guards"? Need to know! Thanks.

Check eBay I’m sure there’s also Facebook groups for any bike or car you have

Should get tighter 👌
@@one_terrabike3151 Should it be tighter or loose, what's better?
@@WILLY52368 looser is better than too tight, but you should aim to get it as right as you can. Too tight is bad on everything 👌

170 miles and i already need to tighten my chain.... not to bonita on the break in
Almost every new chain has this happen! Dont worry too much!
@@one_terrabike3151 ive done it twice now at 1200 miles. i just fear over tightening
Dude you suppose to adjust the chain with the bike on the kick stand not on a jack , you should read your manual

John, you should really make your own videos then.
