Ford Lightning - Locks missing for under seat storage?
How do you use the locking under seat storage for your F150 Lightning Lariat trim?
Does the Ford Lightning have a lot of recalls?
How is the F150 Lightning quality?
Is Ford fixing the recalls?
Is Phil Long Ford in Colorado Springs a good dealership?
Negative issues with the Ford Lightning?
Can you take a road trip in a F150 Ford Lightning?
It took me 2 years to figure this out, but I had no idea that the Ford Lightning would come without lock cylinders for the locking under seat storage. That's right they are missing. Ford is taking care of getting them installed for free because it was on the window sticker. thank you Stephen from Phil Long Service department.
In this video we are discussing something else that was missing from recalls that have happened on my Ford F150 Lightning Lariat trim. It has an extended battery package & max tow package.
The 2023 Ford F150 Lightning Lariat trim is such an awesome truck. You can even take a road trip with confidence. If you leave it in sport mode, the regenerative braking will help extend the range whether you are driving in town or on a highway.

We tried this method & it fried the ECM, stranding us in South Dakota / costing us $1400. The dealership says it's because we used the wrong negative ground position (from this video). There's a prescribed negative ground in the manual in the center of the engine.

Yeah ours used to be that low. It’s been progressively getting more, and we just got notice that it’s going to keep going up every year about 8%. The positive thing is that the cost of off peak times which is all times except 4-8pm are now, as of middle of the year lower at .07 so that’s good. But peak times are now .24 so it’s pretty crazy the difference.

@1PedalLightning if you were supposed to get it it would be on your window sticker. Your dealer can pull it up if you don’t have it anymore. It was not included in the regular package. I added it when I ordered the truck. If you did have it on your sticker then it would say something like “lockable under seat storage” and your dealer should add the locks for free if they are missing. If you didn’t get it originally I have no idea how much money that would cost to add, but it probably wouldn’t be cheap.

Here’s a more recent video I did testing out all of the modes: Ford Lightning - 1 Pedal Drive vs Sport Mode - Winter Range Test th-cam.com/video/tjgFYQS1Aj8/w-d-xo.html

And it will only cost anywhere from $35,000 to $50,000 to replace the battery depending on the battery size (standard range vs extended range) and so at just a little over a quarter of the way to having to replace the battery.. that would be roughly around $13,000 dollars, So the true total cost for 26k miles is ESTIMATED AT $14,193.04.... and it's not a matter IF you have to change the battery.. but WHEN..... SO tired of these EV's trying to push the Green New SCAM... just look at what it takes to make a battery ..Lithium mining, rare earth minerals, mining and processing.. the damage it dose to the environment is far above what drilling for OIL does.. JUST SAIYAN....

There are only two ways that vehicle manufacturers can do to make ev's more affordable put out low cost affordable ev's as the first vehicle you ever make then use the money you have made from that affordable ev to create the rest of the model lineup and be able to fund that research and development better or a partnership meaning two vehicle manufacturers get together and they split the r&d cost between two companies therefore helping them make cheaper ev's by having both companies only have half the development costs that is really the only two options

Thank you. Yeah definitely learn from my mistakes for sure. I’m actually at a Tesla supercharger right now filming a comparison video because my Ford adapter finally came in. The funny thing is speaking of mistakes. I dropped it on the ground the first time I tried to use it. It’s OK though, but I just thought it was funny. I’m not doing these videos cause I’m perfect or anything :-)

Ford Lightning trucks tend to require many more stops to charge than an ICE Ford truck would require. The time to charge is much much longer. Over 1,500 miles you are looking at about 11 or so EV charges of 40-60 minutes each, and slowing to 65 miles per hour instead of the 75 you'd be doing in an ICE truck. The ICE truck will require 4-5 fills at under 10 minutes each. A 26 hour ICE trip will take over 40 hours with the Ford EV. Yet you don't discuss this much, huh?

I’ve traveled a lot in mine, and My experience is yes it takes a little longer, but if you plan correctly you can actually take about the same time. Because really it’s only about 25 minutes to get to 80% and you can stop and eat and stretch your legs. Then get back on the road and you are good. So the extra time hasn’t really bothered me.

    • @paulrybarczyk5013

Yeah, it definitely takes longer for occasional long trips. But for my more common local driving, it charges while parked in my driveway … no fueling trips or waiting … It’s just always ready. That’s about 4X cheaper than gas for my old V8, yet it’s a 580 HP muscle-truck that can pull 60 mph in 4 seconds. So for me, the EV wins. 😊

It's funny how people who complain about spending extra minutes charging an EV have no problem spending 26 long hours, or two long days driving to a destination. They'll spend money on hotels, gasoline, wear and tear on their vehicle and extra time driving, with time spent on the road buying food and making bathroom stops along the way. If you're in such a hurry to get somewhere while driving 26 hours, it's lot smarter to take a jet and get there in a few hours, and then rent a vehicle at the destination. Driving long distances is a waste of time, money and vehicle wear and tear. How many 3,000 mile road trips do most people make every year? One to none? Take a jet. Most of the scenery from US freeways isn't amazing. No wonder so many people are poor and struggling in America. They can't do math and they have no critical thinking skills.

@@F150LightningMike I’ve been averaging g 2.2mi/kwh since taking delivery. Running 43psi cold on the stock Territory HT tires. Most of this was with Pro Power on since I didn’t realize that switched back on every drive. Also, this has been a mix of all drive modes (except I always have 1 pedal on). It’s been much colder than your posted temps though so I’m pretty happy with this(19 right now). It’s really close to the same real world range of a dual motor long range Model Y. Meaning, I arrive home with about the same real world range left, although obviously more kWh needed. I’m using an Emporia 48amp hardwired charger now so I can leave the mobile charger in the vehicle. (Got it for $312 from Emporia directly) Thanks for the vids man! Mike, I drive my Lightning up and down the pass from Park County all the time and it is the best vehicle in the snow. No slipping, no rear end sliding around, and no loss of traction. I drive 30 miles of dirt and mud roads after leaving or entering the paved roads going to and from home and it's awesome. I have the stock tires still and bumping them up to 40-42 psi helps a lot with the wear and the life of the stock tires. Living in Park County and going to the Springs downhill the Lightning is the only vehicle I've owned where I can leave the house and arrive in Colorado Springs with more battery power than I left with.

Nope ... I don't need them here in Colorado most of the time. If it is a time I would need them, that would be pretty bad blizzard conditions and I wouldn't want to drive in that. The other problem with chains here is that snow especially in Colorado Springs melts off the roads fairly quickly, like in 1 or 2 days, so you would tear up roads if you hit a non icy patch. :-( Saying all of that to say people that live in the high country where it doesn't get as much sun might have them
