Hi, Welcome to Duraputer the youtube channel, this humble channel is simply my outlet to my hobby which involves working on and upgrading and collecting laptops. Most of my laptops are pretty old, but I still like them anyway. There are many tech channels to choose from on youtube, and I understand that my content will not be as polished as some of the other creators considering that I’m an independent creator with a full time job. In my channel I will try to create videos that tell a story and show some of the things that interest me with computers, focusing more on the storytelling aspect. Many of my videos contain thinkpad laptops, and I must admit I have fallen into the thinkpad hype, although I also intend to make content that relates to other laptops as well. My upload schedule was once a week, but due to time constraints I’ve started with uploading a video and live stream once every 2 weeks.
I Finally Found One! Rare Thinkpad X61 Tablet Refurbished!
I have been looking for a good deal on a ThinkPad x61 tablet for several months and recently I finally found one on eBay for 21 dollars (plus ship). I was taking a risk because it was being sold as is, but based on the pictures the device seemed to me mostly complete, as opposed to other listings which were overpriced and had severe damage. After this I got to say I’m quite happy with this device. Let me know if you want a full comparison video between the X61, X201 and X230 tablets, I’m thinking that would be interesting to some people.

I Bought Two Cheap ThinkPad T480 "AS IS"
มุมมอง 6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The ThinkPad T480 is a great laptop. In this video I got two for pretty cheap from a charity organization on eBay. These laptops still hold up today and are a great value especially compared to the cheapest new laptops. *Note: the part about being shocked by the laptop was a joke, admittingly a bad one.

Hello! The first part of the video provides some context for the time period and the dell dude campaign of advertisements from the time. The second half of the video I explore the Dell Inspiron 5100 and show what it's like to use it. In this video I use several clips such as from the skit "Forget "Steve Jobs," Get Ready For "Michael Dell" | CONAN on TBS" Here is the link to Steve jobs comparing...
Fixing and Upgrading this Old ThinkPad. Was it Worth it? (Thinkpad T530)

This is a thinkpad T530 that I bought on ebay for $23. I bought it because I already had an extra screen for want, and I wanted to use it to fix one with a damaged screen. Originally this laptop came with an i5-3320m and 4gb of ram, but I decided to upgrade it to an I7-3520m and 16gb of ram as well as a 256gb Liteon MSATA ssd and an extra 500gb hard drive for storage. Overall while this laptop ...

Hello, In this video I go over a comparison of some of the ThinkPads produced in 2011 and 2012. I will write a better description later, but for now here is the script I wrote. This is the ThinkPad T420. This model of laptop has a cult-like following with many people still using it today. Did I say cult-like following? Actually I mean there IS a cult following specifically dedicated to Thinkpad...

Best College Laptops in 2024 That WON'T Self Destruct.

Looking for a laptop for college in 2024? Look no further, many people will advise solely based on the specs of the device. Instead I’m focused on models of laptops that are more durable and that will last your college years without much issues. Unfortunately it isn’t as simple as just picking a brand, Unless you pick a MacBook, which at least has mostly consistent quality. But for most other b...
The Most Mediocre Laptop of 2009 Is Still Usable in 2024!

In this video I test a 15 year old dell inspiron laptop, surprisingly it’s able to run some modern software decently. Over the past 30 years technology has changed quite substantially, but I have to wonder at what point does Moore's law become no longer relevant? There will alway be a need for the best, most powerful computers, but for the home and business computer there must be a limit to whe...

BTW the keyboard mod for the xx30 series works for all of them. I switched my x230t keyboard to the classic style, and with a little bit of extra software magic make it work perfectly.

Hello, I’m planning to buy a refurbished ThinkPad T480, but I have some concerns. The seller won’t allow me to open the laptop to check the hardware, but they’re giving me as much time as I need to inspect it. I know about the usual checks, like testing the display and keyboard, but I’m wondering what else I should inspect to ensure it’s in perfect working condition. Could you provide some advice on what specific things I should check without opening the laptop? I want to make sure everything is functioning properly before making the purchase. Looking forward to your guidance!
Make sure you are able to open the bios and make sure it's not locked. If I can do that anything else inside could be repaired or replaced.
@Duraputer ok
I don't think it will help lol, on mine TV it probably even has less lag on 30Hz
My previous Samsung phone had 4 gig of ram and that worked fine. A light computer user could still use that laptop.
t420 gang
Please spare us the AI narration. Just talk.
Interesting observation, but planned obsolescence from tech giants is already at play😅
I got a T430 for free because it had no screen, no ram and no hard disk. I spent around 25 dollars for a new screen, I put an ssd that I already had and installed windows 10 in it, and well, I had many ram modules around so that was fixed as well. The only thing missing is the keyboard. After I was able to finaly make the laptop function, I noticed that keyboard flaw, but with an external keyboard everything seems fine. It runs so smoothly! And I can't believe I got it for free (someone gave it away because it was "not convenient" to fix it). All I spent was those 25 dollars. I'll never regret it.
What Linux distribution would you recommend? I read online that people were recommending mint xfce

I have a Lenovo L14 gen 1 with a Amd Ryzen 3 pro 4450u and a E595 R5 3500u. I just bought a T480 i5 today on ebay for $55 it boots into bios but its all bare bones needing ram, storage, and a battery. All the components was the stuff I was gonna replace either way if I ever bought another Thinkpad. So now I am planning for this laptop to be a Hackintosh along with being my first device that I try linux on. Ima give arch a shot on it to see how I feel for it.

T480
I’m thinking about getting a t480s soon? Are there any better alternatives? I’ll be using it for Uni and getting into personal projects in coding
The T14 gen 2 with an amd cpu would have better graphics for light gaming. Although the t480 is still plenty for coding.
@@Duraputer isn’t the build quality on the t14 worse? I’ll need it to be rugged enough for everyday carry, and have a good keyboard
Uuuugggggghhhhhhhhhhh... Dell consumer-grade. How utterly awful.
You give fantastic advice and wisdom and perspective, especially a very brief summary of business laptops and their value. I don't usually subscribe, but just to show my support for now, I... have now subscribed! I hope you get many many views and subscribers. The old, established channels have lost their charm. Up with the new TH-camrs!
I love listening to how you say the X1 Carbon's marketed toward the high-end executive. Your voice has a slightly childish tone to it, like you're still in grade school and talking about the opposing team's flashy new uniforms. It's funny and appropriate and helps me put into perspective just how dumb it is to get the best ThinkPad if I'm being pragmatic with money and functionality.
I use my T410 that I got from my dad, and I have no complaint.. This laptop hinge is just amazing, the keyboard feels amazing, and I LOVE the old style looks this laptop offers. Shame how modern LENOVOs have decreased this much.. :(
does it have h.264 encode ?
While I'm more a fan of Dell Latitudes (because of replacement part availability), this was a great video.
Damn, seeing this I really miss my x220t
laptops have lost their allure, once innovative and exciting, they're now just sleek, black rectangles.
This is way, way too good to be AI. Did you write the lyrics? Amazing.

Seems accurate
you saved me. I really wanted to see my specs. Youre a life saviour to my laptop. Tnx for doing this.

bruh thinkpad and just thinkpad can do it all
Ya Know- with Lenovo you'll never go wrong, And I can say this from my own experience... I thought that Acer was going to be a good brand and it turns out by 2018 was the last year that there units were compatible with linux - Somewhere I heard that Lenovo supports Linux 100% and they were right...Lenovo - Dell - Asus do support Linux but Lenovo I think comes on top due to there good build and reliability Better than apple...
That clicking noise sounds like it's from super mario 64
I had two of these, bout the first one as a parts machine and the second was flawless apart from missing the stylus. They were great machines once you upgraded them to 8GB.
The Thinkpad X Tablets are wonderful machines. I think it's cool you got yours for free and was able to turn into a very useful tool for your schooling. Your use of the dual screens for note taking was actually really cool looking on the video. I had an older version of this machine (X41T) that I used in college, and like you I found it invaluable for note taking.
bro made me think new vegas somehow launched on my pc randomly

when i was younger, i had a baby sitter that had one of these. she worked at a school and i assume she came straight from the school to my home to babysit. she would sometimes have the Thinkpad running in my kitchen or dinning room and she would let me use it. i thought it was so cool and i remember trying to pick at the red nub.
There is a extremely small chance that this was from her
Very nice device and good restoration. Several years ago I acquired a Thinkpad X60 running Windows XP tablet PC edition. It runs the low-powered Core Duo L2400. The keyboard is great and it plays DOOM decently. It works as a tablet but it's just ridiculously heavy compared to modern touch laptops.
i feel like minecraft without any kind of performance enhancing mod isnt even usuable. like it just runs like such shit even on decent hardware
literally its so bad, i remember when 1.13 came out and the performance went WAY down even on a half decent laptop
Dudee that Fallout NV theme got me chills
I still have mine that I was issued from brand-new at my work (serial LV-00002), I was allowed to keep it after its useful life was up there and I used it as my primary home laptop for nearly another 10 years, still occasionally use it now, with 8GB RAM and modded BIOS and SSD it's still servicable for basic tasks, runs Win 10 and Linux quite well for hardware thats almost old enough to vote, my original battery even still lasts a bit over an hour!
Great job finding a X61 at a great price!!! A year ago I found 2 T500's brand new in box on my local classifieds!
Epic video! I got a x220 tablet for free at work, and I use it almost every day. Looks very similar to the x61 and x201 in the video
iPaqs were probably the most numerous Windows Mobile device until Palm introduced the Treo 700W series. They weren't PCs, but they had mobile ports of all of the key Office applications and built-in tools in Windows XP. The idea was that you'd sync your data from your desktop to your PDA, and then you'd be able to edit documents or answer emails, which would send and update next time you synced. By 2002, most of these devices had a WiFi sync option and could browse a simplified version of the web.
Also, holy crap! Sager was (is?) still around when I bought my first (and only) brand new laptop in 2013! They made these crazy, massive built-to-order machines loaded up with desktop hardware. I got a 17" one with a GTX 680 and quad-core i7. The battery lasted 60 minutes, and the charger was the size of a toaster.
Heh, yours has the chip in the latch too! Mine came with the whole switchable latch busted out.
