I bought a T480 early this year and it’s not too bad. Solid, dependable, pretty powerful. Only major annoyances with it are lack of multimedia keys and I personally think the keyboard is okay, but not great.
Those new laptops that are being sold for 200$ to 250$ is basically highway robbery. 4 GB of ram? Seriously? Windows is already going to take up half of that.
I have a Lenovo L14 gen 1 with a Amd Ryzen 3 pro 4450u and a E595 R5 3500u. I just bought a T480 i5 today on ebay for $55 it boots into bios but its all bare bones needing ram, storage, and a battery. All the components was the stuff I was gonna replace either way if I ever bought another Thinkpad. So now I am planning for this laptop to be a Hackintosh along with being my first device that I try linux on. Ima give arch a shot on it to see how I feel for it.
I have an IBM 600x that gives off an oldy worldy smell from the fan vents as well as a peculiar odour that comes from the decaying rubberised coating prevalent on laptops of the time😂😂
This video is the epitome of the average second hand Thinkpad user. I should know since I have owned 4 used Thinkpads in the past 7 years. I use arch btw.
What's your favourite Linux distribution? I like Solus because it's rolling release and very stable. The new Solus XFCE works great even though it's a Beta release. Just install all updates and restart for the latest fixes and newer v6.10 kernel. Once the stable release of Solus XFCE is out, just have to install updates and restart, no need to install from scratch. Maybe add/remove some packages. Can you do a review of Solus XFCE? Thanks! Hello, I’m planning to buy a refurbished ThinkPad T480, but I have some concerns. The seller won’t allow me to open the laptop to check the hardware, but they’re giving me as much time as I need to inspect it. I know about the usual checks, like testing the display and keyboard, but I’m wondering what else I should inspect to ensure it’s in perfect working condition. Could you provide some advice on what specific things I should check without opening the laptop? I want to make sure everything is functioning properly before making the purchase. Looking forward to your guidance!
Just ordered a refurbished one. Hope it comes as advertised, at the very least, without the BIOS being locked🤞. Would be a pretty decent upgrade from an Acer Aspire V5-471! Great vid and thanks for the laughs!
You won't shock yourself and die from a low voltage laptop battery. Careless prodding around might short the battery and result in an eventual fire, however.
I totally under you about the T480 being boring. Its like a regular VW Golf (non GTI or R models) its good all around but we need some character to love the machine. I have Ubuntu running it on which makes it slightly more interesting I guess but its not enough.
Great video man, the T480 is the pinnacle of modern-day ThinkPad's. Looking into getting one soon 🙏
Love your channel

At least half!
That X61t is so dang on beautiful.
Yesssssssssss Nice one, ya, the older model thinkpads are Classics!!
A video about a Fujitsu Lifebook T939 or other previous models would be interesting
I was actually thinking about getting a t939 or t938. I have a family member who might like one as a gift.
I currently use one of these rocking macOS Sonoma as my daily driver.
Great machines. I recently upgraded to a Gen 10 Carbon X1, but still keep the t480 as a backup

still quite a newish laptop nice
While I'm more a fan of Dell Latitudes (because of replacement part availability), this was a great video.

Make sure you are able to open the bios and make sure it's not locked. If I can do that anything else inside could be repaired or replaced.
@Duraputer ok
Yay new video x3
I'd really love to see a 16:10 screen mod on one of these... or any other laptop that you find interesting!

Sounded to me like he was being facetious.
I’m thinking about getting a t480s soon? Are there any better alternatives? I’ll be using it for Uni and getting into personal projects in coding
The T14 gen 2 with an amd cpu would have better graphics for light gaming. Although the t480 is still plenty for coding.
@@Duraputer isn’t the build quality on the t14 worse? I’ll need it to be rugged enough for everyday carry, and have a good keyboard
Laptops use 24v that can’t shock you mostly 12v

Nice
How much does the battery last?
It's my first to touch a Lenovo ThinkPad & it's L15 Gen 3 btw was that a Good Laptop?
Yay new video x4
nice nice.
miss a Toshiba satellite best sound wwwaay to many ports dedicated video card ( this was 2003 ) these days this machine would be a 2,000$ easy
i hope the shocking and dying part was a joke
I'm about to get mine for $130😂
