The Most Mediocre Laptop of 2009 Is Still Usable in 2024!

- In this video I test a 15 year old dell inspiron laptop, surprisingly it’s able to run some modern software decently. Over the past 30 years technology has changed quite substantially, but I have to wonder at what point does Moore's law become no longer relevant? There will alway be a need for the best, most powerful computers, but for the home and business computer there must be a limit to where the person using the computer is the biggest bottle neck to performance and upgrading your computer is not needed. I think there are still several years where it will be desirable to upgrade to faster and more powerful computers. As for this Dell Inspiron this device isn’t officially supported by Windows 11, and I used an easy2boot drive to install it on a legacy bios. This computer is quite slow with windows 11, and yes I’m sure it would be much smoother with Linux, but windows is currently the most common operating system that people more commonly use, so I decided to try that. Surprisingly despite the horrible specs of this machine it is still usable, and when I say usable I mean that I’m able to run some modern software on it. Of course this would not be a very good computer as a daily windows machine in fact if you were to buy an i5 that’s just one year newer, the performance would be substantially better. In short computers are getting better, but not everyone needs a better computer, and depending on the person and the use case someone might be fine with a much older computer.
The specs for this Dell Inspiron 1545 :
CPU intel Pentium T4300 2.1Ghz
Ram 4gb DDR2 800Mhz
SSD: 120gb crucial BX500
I have old laptops that I generally use on the go, they are also good to focus on what you need to get done
I had the most barebones Walmart edition of this laptop with a Celeron and 2GB of RAM and 160GB storage and no webcam. Upgraded it to 4GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo and added a webcam + webcam screen bezel long after I had already replaced it with a newer laptop. It's still pretty capable today. I also still daily drive Windows 7 on my main laptop and no malware.
I dont know why people think that anything that we do today requires a recent computer. Tasks like editing documents, browsing, calling didn't get that much more demanding. In fact I am able to edit videos on a 14 year old laptop although admittedly it was very slow and currently my gaming pc is a 10 years old system and demanding games like Microsoft flight simulator are really enjoyable.
my main pc is 12 years old and it's still very snappy!
My previous Samsung phone had 4 gig of ram and that worked fine. A light computer user could still use that laptop.
Interesting observation, but planned obsolescence from tech giants is already at play😅
Tiny11 was developed for older pc's in mind!
Ah... The kind of laptop where i put Mint or Debian and gave it to my parents because they just want to do a bit of Facebook
btw U can still use windows 7 if U have an antivirus
Recently found, there was a security vulnerability for every Windows version, that if you even connect to the internet, just from your Wifi card, you can get hacked.
The security vulnerability can be bypassed by using ethernet, or updating to the latest update by Microsoft.
Windows 7 and 8.1 recently ended support last year, so they can't be updated to the new security update.
IK, but I still use windows 7 on my i7 8650U laptop
Im using one of them as a server lmao
also how did U run windows 11 on it
Easy2boot has an option for non uefi bios. I could try to find a tutorial if you want.
@@Duraputer refus has the same thing
Windows 7🐐 Windows 11 🤡
