    It's incredibly sad that Hitchens passed before Galloway. Such a great man taken from us too soon, and such a sorry excuse surviving him. I'm very happy that Mr Galloway lost his seat in parliament in the 2024 general elections.

    Let's not forget back in 1994 Galloway saluted Sadam Hussain in his heyday with the words, 'i salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability!'. I think that tells us alot about Galloway, regardless of his motivations and his political ideals how can u possibly say that about an evil, Hitler like tyrant like Sadam

    As important a debate as it was 2 decades ago. One thing that stood out, to the discredit of Hitchens, was his frequent warning to objectors "you are on TV" - similar anti free speech pressure is being put on pro Palestinian demonstrators today.

    • @Michael-si6wv
      @Michael-si6wv หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pro-Palestinian protestors are quite literally waving flags of swastikas, and the Hamas and Hezbollah flags, glorifying terrorist organizations, the October 7th terrorist attacks and the Holocaust. And quite frankly most of that when off campus is not being taken seriously whatsoever.

  • @Ryan-on5on

    I regret to say that history has proven Hitchens to be plainly in the wrong on this one. The "War Against Terror" remains an absurd and unwinnable debacle costing billions in taxpayer dollars each year while giving pretext to the clandestine erosion of our civil liberties by Congress and the White House, foolhardy U.S. military intervention in the Middle East only further unbalanced the region's precipitous political stability and brought conditions conducive to the local fermentation and global spread of extremist Jihadist movements against the West, and the domestic fallout of these failed boyish adventures launched ostensibly in the name of democracy has, unsurprisingly, contributed to feelings of growing weariness toward traditional institutions of state and political power that threaten the viability of the Western World's two-centuries-long experiment with the Enlightenment values of empiricism, objectivism, and liberalism. I often wonder: if Hitch were alive today, would he offer a single repenting statement or sentiment of regret regarding his partial embrace then of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and other Neo-cons? That a near-death Hitchens, in some of his final public comments, began questioning the purpose, necessity, and morality of the U.S.'s post-911 crusade of vengeance and retribution lends me some hope the man would've come full circle and awoken to this bamboozlement had he lived.

    Could have been the whiskey talking. So sad to see Hitchen's on the side of Kissinger's war criminal legacy, and Bush's response to NOLA. Then came 2008, crash, then Bush's 3rd term. 20 years in Afghanistan, I'm sure the roads are fine and they are enjoying the billions in arms we presented them with upon the army corp's ugly exit. We can only imagine how Hitch's views would have evolved in 20 years, we still have George riding high on this legacy.

    Galloway's predictions, made 19 years ago, have proven to be correct. The UK parliament is lucky to have him among them again as of last week. The UK media have, as expected, been in a froth of rage over his election. As Amy Goodman implied, the media are in the Hitchens camp, the 1% camp. The only UK publication I am now comfortable reading is Private Eye.

    This Galloway nut I see just got elected to Parliament, scary stuff. I don't have a lot of hope for the U.K. Meanwhile, in regards to the comments here saying that time has proven Hitchens wrong; I think the same could be said of the Hurricane Katrina stuff. In retrospect we now know it was not the failings of President Bush but that of the local government, especially the corrupt, racist then-Mayor of NOLA. Funny how time puts everything in perspective.

    why was Hitchens so rabidly antagonistic towards Islam but had absolutely nothing nearly as bad to say about its brothers Judaism and Christianity? As if they all aren't equally rotten, at least by now, thanks to those who hijacked them for their own gain. I used to like the guy but realize he's just another pretentious stooge for empire. He obviously wasn't very astute or as knowledgeable as he pretended to to be. to have been trying to justify the Iraq war when it was clearly based on lies cooked up by the western warmongerers in order to invade and steal their resources. you can't be a public intellectual with such elitist and deranged views and ideas like that. Galloway has been vindicated.

    • @Phil_Mitchell
      @Phil_Mitchell 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Islam seems to make the biggest claims of all the monotheist religions and is arguably the most dangerous on that ground. Having said this, have you noticed how nearly all the public debates you can find on TH-cam where Hitchens is debating religion, it's with Christians or Jews and not with Muslims? I think that undermines your question about why he was 'rabidly antagonistic towards Islam' over other religions. If you were living in the early part of the 20th century and saw Hitchens critiquing Christianity and the Catholic Church (which by his own words he would likely have been doing had he been around then), would you have viewed him as a 'Christianophobe'? Would you also engage in a whataboutism by bringing up Islam?

    after 20 years of this debate. let's not sugar coat it. it's obvious Hitchens was not only was wrong but a bribed academic. Taliban took over Afghanistan AGAIN. Iraq went back to middle ages, the region is still destabilized which caused civil wars. Scandals on how companies corrupted the area and stole money. If you ask any Iraqi, including fierce anti Saddam, they'd tell you the days of Saddam were gold compared to these days and 10 times better. Hitchens was lucky to die that early, if he's alive today, with the way he was descending, we'd see atheist Hitchens siding with far right groups and sitting with Ben Shapiro advocating like all atheist Zionists how God gave a birth right to Zionists in Palestine.
