    Really enjoyed this up until it was derailed by the self-important participant. Should have had that interchange afterwards, off-camera.

    And here we have another one who recklessly disrespectfully pulls the class into a personal lecture. 50 minutes poor doc had to spare for one guys confused inner thoughts. There's always someone that does it. always.. everywhere.. these ones will be locked into the ice block at the bottom of the inferno forever. hopefully.
    but by the way thanks for the films uploads, very VERY great and neat work.

      Better than a class that does not engage with the class at all and the professor feels like they're talking to a wall of eyes. I'd take this guy any day. He's relatively well informed on the topic too.

    Metaphysical Realism:
    Reality = That which is.
    Since only That which is can either affirm or deny that there either is or is not That which is, there is That which is.
    Because That which is, is, that which is not That which is, is not.
    Since that which is not That which is, is not, That which is, is all-inclusive.
    That which is, that is nothing in particular (actual), is by definition everything in general (potential).
    Philosophy = Reality
    Ontology = Being
    Epistemology = Gnosis
    Thales: Life flows like a river, perpetually in flux, actualizing potential.
    We actualize potential by dreaming our experience and experiencing our dream.
    Anaximander: what we actually experience are the qualities of our perception. Every perception is to some extent memory. Every memory is to some extent imagination. If the resulting narrative needs to be changed, change perspective. Is it a limit or a creative guideline? No wrong answer - only a choice.
    The smallest atomic unit of experience is a perception. The smallest unit of a perception is a quality. The Mind derives meaning from the 'driving' qualities of perception that change our inner state of Being as they change.
    The meaning of anything is determined by perspective. Perspective provides the context of meaning. Metaprograms generate perspective.
    Metaprograms:
    Inner/Outer
    More/Less
    Better/Worse
    For/Against
    It is the combination of qualities that we experience as an object. Apart from such qualities there is no object, yet the object is a whole that is ever greater than the sum of it's qualities, because they arise together as a Continuum.
    Anaximenes:
    The all-inclusive One functions by nature as a diversified unity of potential, actualizing as a unified diversity or Uni-verse (unity within diversity).
    It is identification with the temporal that blocks awareness of the presence of the Eternal within the temporal, the Infinite within the temporal.

    There is a big problem of translations and meanings in contemporary interpretation of classical Greek philosophy. One example is " soul" - the Greek is " breath" or " life" depending on which word. You can't assume it means more than life and have to carefully consider context. There is a big difference between "mind" and "intelligible". That neefs to be clarified.

    this was going well till that eager student started asking questions.... the teacher ought to have diverted such questioning for the end of the lesson. so, not very helpful

    The nature of the Absolute is to function as a diversified unity or whole (continuum of being) that actualizes as a unified diversity or Uni - verse.

    I would have been heckling. These guys were studying physics, not religion. They were not philosophers in the normally accepted meaning of the word. Without his definition of intelligibility we are nowhere. Yes, we can read stone: talk to any good archaeologist. Heckler guy thought he was in a seminar but he had some valid questions (so far as I can hear what he said). Lecturer happy enough to digress I thought ... god....soul....hierarchy...heavens....divine.... - reflection of his contemporary belief set ?
