Math's inherent problem, is that it relies on constants, and in everything, there are inconsistencies. Just take randomness, for example. Randomness cannot be replicated in mathematics, or logic.
He was using the fundamental ideas presented in the Principia as examples of Platonic Forms, which was the intention of the book - to discover the atomic, universal relations. It is beside the point that these fundamental ideas or relations were ultimately proven to be terminally inconsistent.
