Mind is another construction of your brain. Do the experience and ask a rock what mind is, certainly it will be more eloquent than this professor.

I'm re-reading it after a couple of years and I find it to be a lot more profound now. I think it's foolish to start with the Mahayana sutras, even if you are a Mahayanist. Best to start with the Majjhima Nikaya and the Long Discourses.

Excellent comparisons. It really opened my mind to the deeper meanings of terms in the sutra. Excellent!

Well, sure...seeing that all is mind (all is consciousness) is an important step. The belief in external objects is a fabrication. Seeing this part means you're seeing the world directly rather than through your mental fabrications (sankharas).
But there's another step: recognizing mind as a fabrication too. All there is is a series of mind-moments, not unlike the frames of a movie reel. Mind-moments happen so quickly, and each one conditions further mind-moments, so that they give the impression of being a continuous picture, again not unlike a movie reel. It's this illusion of continuity that gives rise to the delusion of a single, continuous mind throughout time.
Anicca is the root of both dukkha and anatta for this reason.

The Buddha spoke Dharma to the practitioners. The depth of Buddhism can only be penetrated when you practice. If you don't practice, you cannot penetrate the depth of Buddhism. You really have no understanding at all. It's all your imagination.

Is there a discussion in the Lanka of the emergence of compassion as a natural process from the experience of the truth of onneess, the ultimate reality?

Lankawathara suthra is given to the greatest ever king of lanka Ravana by the buddha. It can only be properly understood and explained by a Theravada Buddhist monk of the highest order

This Lankavatara sutra is a prominent Mahayana sutra, from the Vijnanavada school. The protagonists are not the Buddha and a king of Lanka, but the Buddha and a Bodhisattva named Mahamati.

    There is that which is.
There is not that which is that is other than that which is, for it would still be that which is that is other, thus not other at all.
Therefore, that which is, is all-inclusive.

The sutra is about getting rid off any concepts. Is wrong that all is mind it is just a relative point of view. Then all and nothing is mind

Your understanding seems deep but it only manages to the concept aatman or soul or somehow clinges to the concept ..
The alaya viyana is the resoviour of all consciousness or your concept of God mind ... And a glimpse at it a reflection of whole .... Is actually the cause of rebirth , the alayaviyana is nothing but ones desires and unfulfilled wishes.
But in Buddhism the bodhisattva glimpses not the alayaviyana but the out side of it and becomes unable to explain enlightenment just as a deaf and dumb mind is unable to explain the taste of honey ...
Anatman or non soul is the doctrine of buddha and nirvana or free of mind ..
