RECTIFY SHARPENING LEVELNESS ERRORS
An example of how to sharpen skating blades, correcting sloppy levelness from the previous sharpening. Go ahead and share this video, together with my other sharpening videos in the GARY MOVES channel, with your skate sharpener. Most sharpeners frankly lack the patience and savvy to get this right. Sharpeners who do maintain high precision standards will ensure customer satisfaction and can justify higher fees for their services.

    This is something that all the young skaters at the ice rink should be aware of before their performance. This should be on a big, fancy website where people sign up or see dates for competitions, and your video should be right there so that everyone can learn this. From what I’ve seen, kids and people, including myself, really struggle with this part. And you voiced the fundamentals so well for an audience. Good job on YouTubing, Dad!

      Most skaters are flatter on the second side of rockers. Not enough twist or not anticipating the lean as the curve changes direction.

    Hi Gary, Thank you so much for making these videos! I haven't watched them all yet, as after every one, I want to get on the ice asap and practice 🙂. All of your loop tips in this video help a lot. Now I am mostly struggling a bit with back outside loops. I found a video from the '88 Calgary compulsory figures competition and started trying the loops using a Shafer push like they do: th-cam.com/video/NJDOxzANY1s/w-d-xo.html My strong side is going ok, but not the other (yet!)

    • @GaryBeacom-FigureSkater

      Back outside loops are the most difficult because the deep back outside edge needed to lead into the loop is the most difficult for skaters. Thanks for sharing your comment. It is always nice to hear that these videos are helping inspire and instruct!

      I have three-wheel off ice figure skates. There are many brands of wheels you can mount to figure boots, or buy special inline boots. I believe they are still available on our site SK8INSOLL. Not super costly, but very functional. I will skate in inline performance in England in November.

    • @GaryBeacom-FigureSkater
      @GaryBeacom-FigureSkater 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To answer question more directly, technique is more same than different. ice skates have 3 advantages: less forward friction, more sideways grip, and continuous rocker curve for ease of balance. But inlines, of course, are more versatile. Look for the nearest smooth, hard surface, and go skate!

    Since loops don’t have to be skated properly for freestyle step sequences etc, different techniques such as the hip twist, edge pressure, pure rotation can be applied. But for Skate Canada skill tests it is required that the loop is done using the older figure method. It would be great since you were so good at them if you were to show the old figure method
