Thank you, you have very interesting and useful videos, not many people talk about steps and turns like this. Special thanks for the fact that you pay attention not only to FO and BI loops, but also BO and FI. And that you emphasise on turn combinations - I, as an ordinary viewer, always enjoy watching skaters do combinations of 2-3-4 turns or steps in a step sequence, and even more so outside of it. It's not that common, especially atypical ones.
Aw, gee, thx,Richard Lennon. See you soon!...or at least you can see me. Just passed the first anniversary for biweekly postings. There are well over a hundred. Do you need or desire more?!
Hi Gary, Thank you so much for making these videos! I haven't watched them all yet, as after every one, I want to get on the ice asap and practice 🙂. All of your loop tips in this video help a lot. Now I am mostly struggling a bit with back outside loops. I found a video from the '88 Calgary compulsory figures competition and started trying the loops using a Shafer push like they do: th-cam.com/video/NJDOxzANY1s/w-d-xo.html My strong side is going ok, but not the other (yet!)
Back outside loops are the most difficult because the deep back outside edge needed to lead into the loop is the most difficult for skaters. Thanks for sharing your comment. It is always nice to hear that these videos are helping inspire and instruct!
Since loops don’t have to be skated properly for freestyle step sequences etc, different techniques such as the hip twist, edge pressure, pure rotation can be applied. But for Skate Canada skill tests it is required that the loop is done using the older figure method. It would be great since you were so good at them if you were to show the old figure method
Some actual figures, Dave? Yes, a thing of beauty, but not sure how much practice it might take to make them presentable. I have a set of figure blades lying around, but would have to mount them on some boots. I spent so much time practicing figures in the seventies and eighties.
There are more and more coaches coming up that never did figures….and they are incredibly important. More than just the turns, it taught control and balance…and even helped with gaining flow. Thank you Gary for reminding everyone! Just found your channel so am working my way through them. You were always one of my favourite skates, amazing footwork and interpretation. Your pc marks would be tops!! ⛸️⛸️⛸️💜
you are so cute and fun....how have you survived the figure skating world? I am still around someones wealthy wife getting the boat out this weekend and I paid for my own lessons first in my fifties. Luckily skating is now about everyone and I can hang out at the working class rink too. Women are bragging they take dance lessons with expensive skates and they can't skate.
What does being able to skate have to do with it?! It is an image thing. The true champ is the one who shows up with the most expensive equipment. Hahaha.
Gracias Gary toda tú dedicación es un gran amor al arte.❤

Especially atypical ones. No kidding. We see the same ones over and over again.
You are still great figure loops ❤ Richard San Francisco CA
