    Love seeing the weather differences. We have had a few -29/-30c days so far here in Ontario, and its a winter wonderland now ( a few feet of snow ). What are your thoughts on an aftermarket ( only choice ) remote car starter, for the c30. I have had some good luck with Viper remote starters in a few of my previous cars. I am a bit leary with aftermarket anything, with the c30. I would really like to have one installed, but am getting mixed feedback. Bit more costly with a manual transmission. My concern is electrical, or damage of some sort. Ps. I love your sweater! 🎄 Merry Christmas from 🇨🇦

    • @VinnesAuto
      @VinnesAuto 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks :) remote car starters are basically non existent in Europe from what I know, so I know little about it. Here our cars often have some sort of pre-heater. Either Webasto, Eberspacher or Defa is commonly seen. Defa is a cord you plug in, but the others are fuel heaters. I know the V40 CCs came with a petrol preheater here, but I haven't heard of the C30 T5s having one. But my diesel pre heater has a timer that I use to set when I want it to be warmed up. I actually even have an app which I could use to remote start it(the pre heater), but that app is $20 a month, so I don't know that it's really worth it. You can also get remote controllers for remote starting of the pre-heaters. In terms of aftermarket, I think that as long as it is a quality part from a trusted manufacturer, I would probably give it a go if it was something that I really wanted. But yes, being a manual, there's probably a lot more wiring making sure it doesn't start if it's in gear I would imagine. Merry Christmas!

    I’ve got some problems with my diesel preheater on my V50. I bought the car few months ago and it was known the heater doesn’t work. I hoped the dealer just couldn’t turn it on because it wasn’t too cold outside so the heater couldn’t turn on. However, it turned out to be a real issue. The winter here in Finland isn’t too cold yet but soon it will be so I need to get it fixed asap😅

    • @VinnesAuto
      @VinnesAuto 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I hear you. I went all last winter without it, and there is a reason I finally got it fixed 😅 but they seem to all have trouble after about 10 years, since both my c30s have had it be broken when I bought them.

      @VinnesAuto 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, the cold can do all sorts of stuff to the cars. I visited Volvo and paid them 1500 of my euros to have them fix my diesel preheater, so now I arrive at a warm car and engine every morning, and I can't even begin to tell you how nice that is.

      Thanks :) I have been considering a V40 cross country to get AWD. But I wouldn't want to get rid of the C30 for it. Specifically I want a 2013-15 which are the only ones that got the 5 Cylinder petrol engines in the AWD versions. I would like the T4 2.0L 5 cyl low pressure turbo one with 179hp stock, and considerably more with polestar tuning, because I believe it is more reliable than the 2.5 T5. If I got my hands on one I would convert it from a CC to a R-design.

    On the C30, do you recommend B14 or B16 for the suspension? Mainly are you happy with your B14s? I know you are likely not able to comment on the B16s. But I do appreciate your input on this topic. Thanks!

    • @VinnesAuto
      @VinnesAuto 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For me, I'm happy with the B14s. I don't see the point of going to the B16s unless you do a lot of track work and want damping adjustability. The B14s strike a sporty balance that is in my opinion firm, but not directly uncomfortable. You will feel every bump, but it will not crash over every bump if that makes sense.

      Thank you! I have all of my gear listed in the description :), but my main cams are a sony a6400 mirrorless camera, and a dji pocket 3 creator combo which comes with the wireless dji Mic 2. I am a bit of a camera nerd, which is why I have a lot of gear 😅. But the first few videos were all recorded on my phone, but with a rode videomicro microphone. If you want to make content, and have a decent phone, getting a decent microphone is the best investment you can make. Something like the rode videomicro, and a boya by-m1, don't break the bank too bad. I have used the Sony Xperia 5 II and more recently sony xperia 1 V (smartphones) for filming with great success. You don't need lots of fancy gear to get started. But for low light situations like this exact video, a mirrorless with a large sensor is beneficial. I also used a gimbal with my phone, I bought a second hand dji phone gimbal for $50, and I would highly recommend getting one second hand, because there are a lot of people who spent all the up front money only to not really use it, and are selling it for cheap.

      Thanks :) yeah, calipers are interesting to work on for sure, but I think they seem more intimidating than they actually are. As long as you know how to bleed your brakes at least. I actually really enjoy working on brakes for some reason xD. I'll be replacing pads and fluid on the mazda in spring I think, that should give me some better feel, since the brakes are just a bit squishy I feel. I also have a complete custom brake upgrade kit for the C30 waiting to go on, but I am waiting untill after winter, because I don't want the salt destroying the nice finish immediately 😅.

    I kinda think that these huge rims are not suited for ford focus suspension. I have a v50 and waiting for Spider r17 to pop up for sale. Just noticed in your wash video that yours is D4, must be fun, especially since it's a lighter hatchback. Mine is D3 with DPF deleted, pulls very nicely, for some reason it's faster 25-125kmh than BMW E91 320D 135kw. Do you still use a5/b5 oil in yours?

    • @VinnesAuto

      Depends on the roads you drive on I guess. I have even seen them on 20s. I have had 17s and 18s, and I find that 18s are the sweet spot for responsiveness to comfort rario. 19s would be overboard in my opinion, but then again, Volvo used 19s on the C30 PCP.

    • @deez023
      @deez023 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VinnesAuto I have r16 Convector at the moment and the ride is kinda rough tbh. I heard that r17 with 215/50 or 55 tires might make the car more comfortable and make the ground clearance higher, which would be helpful in my situation, because my spring are weak at 306k km and pipes sometimes scrape the curb when I park

    • @VinnesAuto
      @VinnesAuto หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deez023 Well, it's not a luxury sedan either, so it's never going to ride on pillows. I prefer to feel the road beneath me, but to each their own. I am lowered on Bilstein coilovers too, so it's never going to be particularly comfortable. I had a set on my previous C30 with stock R-design suspension that was 235/40r18, and I though the car was really comfortable on those. What can also help if you're after comfort is choosing a wider tire in relation to your wheel width. those were 18x7.5 wheels, originally fitted with 215/45r18, but having it wider compared to wheel size makes the sidewall have less tension. Too a degree, of course, you can't go too wide either. you could for instance go with 225/50r17 on a 7" wide Volvo spider wheel. that would give you about the same outer diameter as my new winter wheels at 225/45r18 but with one inch more tire. What tire you choose also influence the ride a lot. my sports tires are the same size as my daily driver tire, but there is a great difference in both noise and comfort, but at the expense of high speed handling stability and responsiveness. There is no tire that does it all.

      I use A5/B5 0w30 Castrol edge for half the year( winter time) and LL 5w30 Castrol edge for the other half. That gives me about a 10 000 km Interval which is ideal If you actually care about your engine. I use 5w30 in summer because it protects slightly better under hard use and high temperatures than 0w30.

    • @deez023
      @deez023 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VinnesAuto I came to conclusion that a5/b5 oil is just environmental requirement and it is a bare minimum for this engine. I can't find any info that they changed the tolerances for the 2l d5 engines compared to 2.4l d5s in the s60 mk1 for example and those cars work on 40 weight oil without a problem (volvo penta marine d5 engine also uses 40 weight oil). I switched from Mobil1 ESP LV 0W30 to RAVENOL SSO 0W30 A3/B4 oil, which has 12cst at 100C compared to 9.7 that Mobil has. My car car doesn't have dpf anymore, so I don't worry about ash content. In spring I want to try 0w40 oil for the next summer season. I also change at 10k km if it's full synthetic with PAO.

      I would recommend the driveshaft spacers from ALG (UK based company so shipping might be costly), which anecdotally help with the longevity of the driveshafts on lowered C30s.

    • @VinnesAuto

      @calj2405 on my previous driveshaft I used those exact drivshaft spacers, and it didn't seem to make any difference to durability. They might be good for longevity if you have a higher quality drivshaft, but definitely not a universal solution.

      A young "ass" who was 7-8 seconds faster around that small track than the GR Yaris with much more power that was driven by a guy in his 30s, and a modern bmw 330. In fact the only driver in my class of over 20 people that was faster drove a model 3 performance that does 0-60 in close to 3 seconds. You want to be careful judging people solely on their age, because that might bite your old "ass". I really don't see what you were trying to achieve with this comment.

      I figured as much. Just thought I would rile you up some more. The Norwegian market never got the T5 for the facelift, just diesels. So while I agree that petrol engines are more refined and nicer in general, this is one of the better diesels out there. The D4 is the most powerful C30 we have, and it's also one of very few oversquare diesel engines, making it much more rev happy than your average diesel. And as a bonus I get good mpgs. As you probably know, Europe in general has a lot of diesel cars, while the US usually reserves diesels for larger vehicles.

Just the feeling on how it maneuvers the roads and the comfort among with the sporty touch just feels right! Yeah, so far there is no sign of a spiritual successor to the C30. The EX30 carries it's numbers, but is nothing like the C30, and not even just because it's electric. It carries a completely different philosophy and purpose. The p1800ES line and legacy might just have died with the C30 in 2013. We can only hope that it may someday return.

    Very true sentiments :) A c30 *is* a car you buy with your heart, very true words. Unassuming elegance: without flash, yet with a sophistication that only Volvo could create. And only a Volvo owner truly understands. I enjoyed this video very much; and yes, I always turn and look at "Sven", once he is parked. I do not attribute it to materialism, but to gratefulness to be one of the few to realize how lucky we are to own a Swedish piece of art. I have had some "cool" cars over the years (all relative of course-as each person has their own likes/preferences), supra, mustangs, hemi challenger (2) and a mercedes, yet, I keep coming back to Volvo. This is my third, and second c30. I have not loved one car, like I do my c30. I am grateful. It's not the best size for my dog, I borrow a family car if needed, but I just cannot part with it. There is nothing like it, and never will be. You are a fantastic videographer. I hope to see more of Norway in your videos, too, when time permits with your busy schedule.

      Well, the stock one is the good one if you have the later version with hands-free and or Bluetooth media. Does what you need, doesn't do what you don't need. (Like distracting you.) If you're missing Bluetooth media but have aux, I recommend a Bluetooth adapter, specifically the mpow mbr2. But if you're sure that you want a touchscreen, then I would put the alg performance head unit as your best bet. There is also one called Bluepower which is the only option for full integration, but it is expensive.

    Looks like fun driving the autocross in the c30. I'm a Volvo Enthusiast having owned various p80 chassis and various p2 chassis. That being said, I've always wanted a c30 R-Design with the updated exterior. I'm a big fan of hatchbacks(presently driving an 05 Saab 9-2x Aero/Saabaru), and to me, the Volvo c30 R-Design is the ultimate hothatch of it's era. How is the c30 R-Design as a daily driver as far handling bumps in road and over gravel roads?

    • @VinnesAuto
      @VinnesAuto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine is lowered, but my previous C30 was on stock R-design suspension. In my personal opinion it was a really good mix of comfort and sportiness. Handling smaller bumps with no problem, never really hit any very big bumps, but on your usual tired old road I felt it was very composed. I haven't driven much on gravel, but for snow, it's really nice actually for being FWD. It does naturally have a understeer balance, but you can make the tail slide out a bit if you try, and particularly if you upgrade the rear sway bar. The DSTC system is also very clever, keeping you in line if you just want a small bit of fun. As for comfort on a gravel road I can't say for sure, but with 17s it shouldn't be any worse than any other hatchbacks. The 9-2x is a seriously cool car, we never got that one over here.
