Good Morn-Fternoon-Vening! My name is Mike and welcome to my tiny little space in the analog universe. I'm an '80s, Analog & Film Nerd and my channel is dedicated to just that...well, not the nerd part, but the other stuff. I shoot, process, scan and display a wide variety of film formats, including 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm movie film as well as a happy mix of still formats.
I steer clear of boring patter and like a fun, whimsical approach, never taking anything too seriously (except developing of course).
Please take a minute and explore my videos & hopefully...there's a format for you!

I recently got 9 rolls of this stuff thats been unused and still in the box and wrappers. 3 expired in 1959 and the other 6 February of 1961. I shot one roll of the 1959 expired stuff on a kodak brownie hawkeye during a deep sea fishing trip. Gonna ask a local lab for help developing it.
That's exciting! Nothing quite like the look of vintage film shot with a vintage camera. Best of luck!!
Long live the memory of John Curtis Mellonball!
Discarded memories, I wonder why there are so many undeveloped films around? Do people just shoot films and not bother to have them processed? It couldn't be that expensive to process super 8mm back in those days. If I was to shoot a reel of super 8 film now days, I will bet ya bottom dollar I will get it developed and scanned.
This may not have turned out ideally, but it's still another cool piece of this puzzle.
Thanks, Matthew!!
Awesome footage, also great music this time! I remember my first time seeing a Hasselblad add in a magazine, when I was still in school in the 80s. I so wanted one of those... and I thought I would never have one. Luckily, now that I'm a grown up, I still can't afford one, so....
Thanks, Bent!! Oh to be able to afford a Hasselblad!
Beautiful.
Suggested name -- "The Pomona Pack"????
Happy 2025 Mike! Love these films! I have to wonder if any of the stills from the photo shoot are around or was never used. I can imagine how many rolls of film Darius went through. Be interesting to see what is around. Thanks for sharing and see you on the next fantastic live stream on Sunday!
Thanks so much, Jeffrey! You know, the seller I bout all of this stuff from sold a whole bunch of different lots of 35mm slides, negatives and other media. I'd be willing to bet there's more of this stuff mixed in. I didn't see any of it until it was already sold to someone else :( Happy New Year!!
Maybe it was mostly b-roll? I don't see any 'clapper' or sync marks and there are lots of short shots, and 'wild-sync' with Super 8 can be pretty tricky -- so maybe the plan was minimal original audio and mostly voice-over/narration.... But we'll probably never know. Yet it's still amazing to recover any images at all from undeveloped film that old! Excellent job!!!!
You might be right on the B-Roll theory. It does kind of seem like it's a little bit of any/everything.
@@Filmboy24 -- It would be awesome to track down someone who worked on the project and get more of the story....
@@aengusmacnaughton1375 Yes it would!!
How about calling it the ‘PFA’ - Pomona Film Archive!
I snagged a Yashica Electro Super-600 in what seems to be mint condition *EXCEPT* I cannot get the battery cover off, so there must be corroded/expanded batteries in it. Lens looks pristine. I hope that the electronics are OK after I carefully get to the batteries and clean that up!!!
Hopefully you can get it running, they're good cameras. I did a video a couple years ago, reviewing it. Let me know if you get it working. Happy New Year!!
@@Filmboy24 -- Thanks! If I get it working, I'll shoot something and send it off to you for developing -- what is your pricing? I hope that the holidays have been good to you and the family -- "Super 8 cartridges were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that FilmBoy24 would soon be there!"
Thank you for all the great content & happy new year Mike !
Thanks for all your support, Cecil! Happy New Year!!
Rely on ceiling fans and cold iced tea if it gets a little too warm!!! (I can see your ceiling fan running in reflection on a reflective plaque in the background)
It's so funny you mentioned that reflection! I noticed it while editing and ALMOST shot the video a 3rd time 😂
@@Filmboy24 -- Didn't bother me....
Any idea what camera?
Sadly, no idea.
That’s Kodacrhome 40? Wow I’m impressed with the quality of the exposure. The sound is good too.
What causes the flicker in the footage? Is that a camera issue or telecine issue? Would love to see some experiments with deflicker and even see what can be done with upscaling these days Great video by the way.
Thank you, I appreciate it!! Great question and honestly, I think it has more to do with the home developing than anything. It's so difficult to get good, consistent results with 100' lengths of 16mm ECN-2 in a home tank.
The first thing that comes to mind is how UNBELIEVABLY GRAINY that film is these days. MUCH WORSE than Kodachrome. Glad that nowadays I film on HD or 4K with 3D VIDEO. Looks glorious on a 3D capable projector, filling the ENTIRE WALL, Blu-Ray Quality, floor to ceiling, wall to wall. Never going back to Super 8.
Super 8 is definitely a tiny format. 35mm looks great blown up, but you're right, Super 8...not so much 😂
You know what really annoys me about eBay is the new prevalence of Ai item descriptions. “Captures your memories in vivid bullshit” is usually how they start. On a non-functional Canon L1 or something.
😂Yep! Really annoying!
I love that your cute little daughter is wearing her bicycle helmet while coloring on the side walk. Safety first, safety always. Hahahahaha
😂 Thanks, Jim!
I have the XL601 and those little cameras are packed with features.
I have 2 B&H T50XL and I like them.
I don’t have that Yashica model, but I do have the others. The Canon is the best but I am surprised at the quality of the B&H camera.
Filmboy24 makes this look easy but I’ve done one of these and it is not easy.
Thanks, Jim! Had fun doing this, but you're right, a lot of work, lol.
Those two “goons” have not been heard of since.
In the tree-cutting scene, you can hear they're taking photos of the whole thing. If those are color photos, now with 2025 just ahead of us, we're *THIS* close to use AI (including Gaussian splattering) on this film combined with the photos, and we can re-create the entire scene in motion and fresh, well-processed colors of our choice (E160T, Kodachrome, you name it) in 3D and have the film here 'drive' the motions in that 3D scene, putting the virtual camera in the same place as it is here, making it look entirely photorealistic and with glorious film colors, with much finer grain. We can then make it look like Super8 or 16mm, or we could even switch the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9, by having the AI authentically guess the missing bits left and right, and we can make it 18fps, 24fps, or even 30p or 60p. Finally, if we have good portrait photos or face close-ups of Joey and his family from that time taken on 35mm still photography, we can then even make their moving faces absolutely authentic, with a resolution as high as that we could see every pore, if we wanted to.
Kinda scary (in a good way) what could be coming with AI in terms of restoration.
@@Filmboy24 I guess it'd be funny to use it to edit the Zapruder film in the way of this one sci-fi story that I've heard of, where JFK's second term went wrong with WWIII and then aliens come from outer space, and they give him the chance to go back in time and shoot himself in Dallas. The ensuing time paradoxes, with overlapping different timelines or universes, then gave rise to all the many inconsistencies in the Warren Report.
@@tlatosmd7074 😂 My head just exploded!
good show very impressed by all your credits, sorry i kind of googled the film you mentioned 😀
Thanks, Able!!
Are theses Mark machines all silent? Do they have any super 8 sound? Thank you.
Yes, they are but the company also used to make a separate, stand alone sound module for extracting audio. I have one and it works great. The company is now, sadly, out of business.
Are theses Mark machines all silent? Do they have any super 8 sound? Thank you.
In your opinion are there are any company's that do. super 8 film that with sound transfer to digital format. Do you know any company's that would sell both super 8? Do you have any suggestions? Thank you

Always love the content Mike, got two rolls of double X for christmas and a whole bunch of 35mm still film for christmas which im super excited to shoot. Got a Yashica Mat 124G. And I have 4 rolls of expired black and white 120 film which expired in 1981. Any idea what iso I should shoot it at? Its plus X pan film. Says in its plamphlet it is "125 iso" new.
Thanks so much! "New" film is always so exciting!! Plus-X typically held up well over the years and of course a lot will depend on how yours was stored, but if it were mine, I'd shoot it at around 50 ISO. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to bracket a shot or two also, just to get a better idea. Good luck with it!
@Filmboy24 Thank-you good sir!
I'm loving these found film videos
Thanks so much!!
My BLC button seems a bit sticky, not sure if it’s stuck in. Any tips?
That can be real tricky to fix without opening the camera up. The button should spring back and forth easily, so if not, it's definitely stuck. I would guess a tiny bit of debris may have gotten in there and you may be able to tap on it for a while to get it working again. You can also try some contact cleaner spray along the edges of the button. I've "fixed" a lot of cameras with a can of that stuff, just make sure it's safe for circuit boards (most of it is). Good luck with it!!
Merry Christmas Mike, Piper, family and Filmboy24 crew!!!
Thanks so much, Aengus! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family as well!!
Daughter dating? I have four daughters -- stressful (about the dating) -- you'll need to quiz the boys on Super 8 topics -- if they fail, then no date!!!
😂😂😂
Well, you rescued a bit of history there -- even undeveloped -- it would be great to track down someone who could put it all together as originally intended. Your footage definitely is about the photographer Darius, not about the subjects, not a music video. His camera (an expensive 120/220 medium format professional camera, not 100% sure the model), was wired to strobes in soft reflectors -- so the flash shots that you captured were probably when Darius was taking a shot.
I believe you’re spot on in your assessment. Would be so cool to find the person that was filming. They could probably shed all the light we need 😊
A lot of the angles, shots, camera moves and quick zooms definitely have more of a 'pro' feel than an amateur Super 8 production -- but an interesting choice at the time to shoot it on Super 8 vs. 16 or all on video....
BetaCam (1/2") tapes may not playback properly on a consumer BetaMax (1/2") deck -- and BetaCam SP is 3/4" -- very different.
Thanks for that info, Aengus!!
I sold a BX-720 on eBay two years ago for (wait for it) twenty eight dollars!
It is Super8 format which was the answer to Single-8 and not viceversa.
Hi Mike, missed this week (mum visiting for Christmas!), but now watching, but the live chat relay is not showing for some reason. Is that a setting at your end?? Will come back later and check if it changes...

I have an Elmo that can take the 200ft cartridges. It's a shame Kodak don't make it anymore. Sometimes two and a half minutes really isn't enough.
I really do wish Kodak made these 200' magazines still!
