I'm from the uk born and raised, and i hate marmite its disgusting. 🤮🤢. Crumpets are delicious always toast them add butter but you can add a savoury or a sweet topping, its up to you really. With pork pie you can eat it hot or cold what ever you prefer.

The crammed shop is MORE convenient than the US one. (or Canadian) because........you do not have to drive there. Whole British Town centres (UK Spelling there) are often smaller than the car park at a US box store. Horsell Surrey has a Green grocers, bakers, Coop, three restaurants a post office, Butchers (with merger sausages,mmm) and all that and a few more shops and a church And housing in an area smaller than that car park shown.:) Oregon also has no sales tax so they don't have teh tax issue.That one really annoys me. Everyone trying to blame the government for the price."oh look it's a rip off. That tax makes it too expensive" why teh US always complain about tax. I didn't realize Canada was US style. Brits can make tea in an add break.;)That is important. You have to often make LOADs of cups of tea.It would be nice if Tourists would give $5 to teh museums because teh Brit tax payers have to pay and are always talking of charging. And Im not buying that Yanks dont like their animal fat , Ive had pork bellies in America and as yummy as they are there is a LOT of fat in them . Not that pork pies have fat in them , its meat gelatine to bind the meat and pie crust together and yes you can have them hot , its just the gelatine melts out of the pie.

Here's a funny story. I was looking to seal a bathtub. I needed CAULKING. I asked teh guy in the 'hardware store' in Eugene, Oregon. I said caulking for sealing teh bath tub surround. I tried for 5 minutes and teh guy didn't understand me. I have a pretty clear accent. almost R.P. But no. So they got an older guy. That is how they pronounce caulking. Sounded funny as hell to me. But in fairness it also sounds like an Irish accent. Though teh rich I knew would recognize "caulk".

I lost a close family friend to the sas. He could do a double marathon in under 7hrs. Due to the secrecy it wasn't published but he has a memorial on top of Ben Nevis. Sas are blacked out so no-one knows who they or their family are because they deal with people that are that bad. They appear to operate under their squadron but actually they're sas operatives.

Crumpets are made from a mixture like a pancake. Poured deep into a metal ring. Then cooked until the bubbles pop through the top.Like when you make pancakes and you wait for the bubbles to flip. that's where they stop. I didn't know Cornwall was a city? , always thought it was a county with one city in it. Marmite must be spread extremely sparingly,to not overpower the butter toast. There is a healthy argument on ,should you spread clotted cream like butter and then the jam or the other way around. Personally I'm in the jam 1st camp ,as then you aren't restricted to the amount of cream you can dollop on. My favourite crumpet is toasted a bit longer, with lots of salted butter sand either golden syrup or maple syrup. I think the f.d.a banned haggis for using offle., but you can get one in Canada. I think they have wild ones there,with the shorter left legs.

Babies love Marmite, it's very rich in vitamin D. I hate Marmite, my youngest son hates it too, he insists it's made from fly poop.

Something to remember is a lot of traditional British food has been influenced by two things: 1) British weather. A lot of our food is hot, filling and stodgy. great on a cold wet winter's day, especially back in the day when many jobs involved hard physical labour. 2) Rationing/poverty. Food rationing in the UK lasted from the start of WWII in 1939 and lasted until 1954. Recipes tended to use cheap, easily obtainable ingredients and were quick and easy to make. e.g. - Beans on toast: Great for working class mums. Very cheap quick and easy. Kids love it so no tantrums and it's one vegetable they'll eat. - Bread and butter pudding: Use up any stale white bread soaked in mix of egg, milk & sugar, lob in a few raisins and a bit of cinamon, chuck in the oven for 90 mins then serve with hot custard. Lovely! Pork dishes: These go back to the days when people might keep a few animals. If someone had a pig they'd fatten it up and then when it was slaughtered the whole village would join in. After the main cuts of meat had been taken they'd find uses for all the remaining bits: Ears, snouts, trotters, the bloods would be mixed with oats and herbs to make black pudding. The offa/organs and odd bits of flesh could be used in pies, pork pies, sausages, etc. The skin and fat made crackling (which is delicious and still part of a roast pork sunday lunch) and pork scratchings.

Pork pies are not filled with animal fat. I make my own using lean pork mince. The gel around the meat is made from stock mixed with gelatin or agar. They are better cold than hot. Neal your mind seems to be very closed to the concept of eating food that doesn’t have a foothold in the USA. Similar to the video makers, who seem more intent in pouring scorn on UK foods. It is an American trait from what I have seen, yet you are happy to fill yourselves up with additives that are banned in most first world countries. You guys need to stick to burgers and hotdogs.

Cornwall is a County. Pork Pie is eaten cold, it is often had with salad, the jelly is called Aspic. Crumpets are different to other bread types. Toad in the hole is a lunchtime meal, the sausages are usually pork.

The first job i ever had was working in a pie factory and my main job in the morning was to squirt the gelatine into the pork pies, its not animal fat, it pork gelatine, I've never really been a massive fan of pork pies but fresh out of the oven with no jelly is the best way to have them IMO, yes you can have it hot too, if i do have one i have it cut into slices, heated through and served with some egg, chips and mushy peas.

I'm from the UK but hate basically everything on this list apart from the toad in the hole which can be amazing. Really does depend on the kind of sausages used in it though, bad sausages will ruin it quick. The rest of the list is just vile though lol

I am about to go to Scotland for a week and hope to have an opportunity for a bit of haggis. It can be very variable, but many years ago I used to have lunch at a local small restaurant that always celebrated the week of Burns Night with haggis, tatties and neeps ie, mashed potato and turnips. They closed many years ago and I still miss my Burns Night treat.

Back in February I took Avanti between London and Crewe on one of their class 390 Pendolinos, those are the tilting trains that can operate at 125mph on the WCML, very quiet and comfortable, if a bit pricey. For us Americans, inter-city rail like this is unheard of outside of the Northeast Corridor between Boston-NYC-Washington DC. As for the cost comparison, you'd pay about the same to ride on the Amtrak Acela from NYC to Washington DC, which is also a 2 hour trip. The London to Crewe trip is also only 1hr 35min on the class 390 tilting trains which go 125mph. We also do have some dual mode diesel/electric trains in the US, though only operating out of NYC, Amtrak uses them on their services from NYC to upstate NY and Metro North uses them for services from Grand Central station to the Hudson valley and some of their services into Connecticut.
