A lot of American food is banned in the UK due to how toxic the food is and the terrible food safety laws in your country.

I refuse to buy eggs that are not free range. My American in-laws came over & the first time they had British eggs they were astonished at how much tastier they were.
Think about this:- When you get stressed or depressed your body & general health suffers. When you cram loads of hens into a cage with barely enough room to move they get stressed & depressed, so what do you think happens to the eggs & the meat? Apart from that, it's cruel & inhumane to treat any animal like that.
The US has a nasty habit of fucking about with their food. I've lived in both countries & I'm sorry, but our food is much better & doesn't taste like it's been through the digestive system of an android.

I suspect a lot of those so called free range eggs sold in the U.K. , are battery farmed hens eggs . They have had cow sh💩t & bits of straw stuck on them to make them look like genuine free range eggs & flogged for over twice the price .

I have been a roller pigeon breeder all my life, and pigeons, just like any other bird can lay thier first egg a week before the last before they start to incubate them,,, Protective coating.

No one mentioned the Lion Mark! In the UK, almost all eggs sold in supermarkets come with a Lion Mark stamped on them. It’s not just a thing that says they’re from the UK, it actually means that the chickens have been vaccinated against salmonella. There’s absolutely no such thing as “grade a” in the UK. There’s the Lion Mark, then they’re also date stamped and numbered as to where they were laid. You can trace your egg to a certain farm. That code will also tell you if the eggs come from a farm that’s free range or organic. A typical code will be something like 0UK50124. The 0 means organic, 1 would be free range, 2 means Barn. UK is the country of origin and the rest is a code specific to the farm. There’s also a “best before” stamped on them. It’s a “best before” it’s not a “use by”. That’s because, again, the hens have been vaccinated against salmonella, they’re kept in better conditions and that all means they are safer. I will argue for better conditions for animals and part of that is recognition of better practices and encouraging them. Don’t just shout “I don’t eat eggs so I’m helping chickens” you’re really not helping, at all. Always buy organic because the welfare standards are better. They will be marked with a 0. If you live in the countryside, get to know your local farmer, your eggs will likely be from the hens you see running round the yard, and occasionally your garden but there’s always a downside.

Many years ago my uncle and aunt ran a mixed farm and got some chickens which they caged. After a few weeks they released the hens as neither my uncle nor aunt could stand seeing the poor hens in that state. After that they let them roam free around the farmyard during the day and shut them in a henhouse at night. Sadly, foxes attacked killed most of the hens during one night... Hens have a tough life.

I'd always thought it was just my mothers eccentricity to drive out to the farmsteads for her eggs, no matter what country we happened to be in. And then we were shown, in school, the horrors of chicken farming - and other animal farming/factories. (As others educated by nuns will know, they never pussy-footed around in introducing human-kind's iniquities.) So we grew up and got into the work force knowing how barbaric that was/is and changing things.
But in a capitalist society the least outlay the more profitable. And injecting them costs money. So does farming them properly. There's no point in vaccinating these poor misshapen creatures packed in to small cages, standing on top of each other, shitting all over each other. 😨 The vaccine can only be administered to birds which have enough space & cleanliness not to continually be re-infecting each other.
Of course the rather watered-down version of modern nuns would never never run the risk of traumatising kids by the classfull today. But it was only after I started to write this that I realised how vividly those images have stuck in my head. And after I'd seen them I suddenly realised that my mother wasn't completely eccentric, after all.😌

"British Lion Eggs" They all have a red lion stamped/printed on them to indicate that the hens have been vaccinated followed by: A best before Date, the type of farming system/method used, e.g. organic, free range or barn and a specific code to which farm the egg(s) came from. So if there was a outbreak of salmonella the infected produce can be traced back to the source and nipped in the bud.
Just thought I should Eggsplain that to you, and it's true, I'm not Yolking.

    US v UK Salmonella rates
This information was found on the internet but it also says that comparing the numbers is not accurate as the methods and accuracy of data gathering in each country varies.
    So with that in mind
US cases of Salmonella per year is 15.2 illnesses per 100,000 people
England (I could not find numbers for the whole of the UK) cases per year are around 13.5 per 100,000 people
But I also found the following
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report around *380 deaths* in the US each year attributed to foodborne salmonella poisoning. The most recent epidemiological lab data from Public Health England, 2006 to 2015 shows *no deaths* in England and Wales from salmonella.

Salmonella deaths per year in the UK is 0.
Issue with this though is the far superior, on average, healthcare in the UK. Salmonella isn't a lethal food poisoning unless the person is immunocompromised and untreated. Everyone in the UK has fully covered healthcare so is treated. Many in the U.S. will avoid treatment, often until it's made worse or is too late.

I’m in the UK. I use quite a lot of eggs, generally 2 or 3 a day for just me. I always have a dozen (12) eggs on my counter in a ceramic egg tray. Any eggs additional to that are in the refrigerator, but I take out eggs from the fridge to replenish those I use, so eggs I use will have been on the counter for at least 4 or 5 days on average before I use them. Supermarkets here sell eggs from unrefrigerated shelves. I lived/worked for several years in France and I also had a second home in Spain for many years, both mostly much warmer countries than the UK, and eggs were sold & stored at home unrefrigerated there too - never had any issues. Almost all the eggs I buy are ‘free range’, either from a supermarket, but I also buy eggs from farm shops nearby on occasion, and these come from a couple of nearby farms, similarly those farm shops also sell very local meats and vegetables, and in the warmer weather there are very local fruits too, but those generally cost more, so most people, me included, buy most foods from supermarkets, which source their produce from further afield, either in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, and particularly for out of season items these may come from literally all over the world, whether Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, North Africa or North or South America, etc.

It’s easy to explain why we have far less salmonella cases here in the UK compare to America. Much stricter food hygiene safety.
Isn’t just American eggs that are illegal here. Most American foods are banned here unless they use natural ingredients without all the American chemicals and flavourings added.

Unfortunately like many of these things it does boil down to the difference between Uk & US animal welfare standards , and more fundamentally the average “person in the street” attitude and personal regard to welfare of animals. Not to mention climate change. I am a struggling vegetarian borderline vegan (relapsing into carnivore) at the moment, but knowing the way I should be heading. I understand that the UK like most of Europe does inoculate chicks against salmonella and I know from personal knowledge that in “the scheme of things “ it is of very little cost to the farmer. The eggs I buy from a high street store are generally very clean because it is in the producer’s interest to do so. Occasionally I have an egg with a feather attached to it which is a gentle reminder to me of where this product has come from, and not from McDonald’s or Kroger’s a*r*h*o*.

As for the Irish Republic it’s not as Far From Northern Ireland Compared to Going Across The Irish Sea To Dublin From Bangor in Whales and I think it’s about 3 Hours by Ferry between Bangor and Dublin But The Sea-cat is about 2 hours plus or so From Belfast in NI to Scotland ?.
And if we’re going to Mainland Europe as in France from Dover it’s about an Hour or so and using the Euro Star Train it’s 45 Minutes from The Cargo Terminal and 2 Hours and 16 Minutes from London to Paris France ?. But I think going by Ferry is a Must and The Duty Free isn’t Bad Neither ! Ok only being Able to Buy 400 Cigarettes is SH But the Booze Makes up for that SH TOO ?.
I mean back in the Day you used to be able to Buy 2000 Cigarettes in total Both Ways ! But I think it’s only 200 today ?.
And France used to be A Gold Mine for Off Licences and Corner Shops for Cheap Booze But who is going to pass up 25% off Duty Free Booze ?.

Expats can still receive pensions living in Europe. We still have trade agreements. The only thing we left is the European Union.
