If you become ill whilst on holiday, your employer is required to credit you with those days you were sick. I do feel sympathy for our American cousins.
I don’t, if you want change fight for it
It's not just the UK that looks after you, most of the world do.
Your country must be right though because you have all that freedom, Ha.
In the UK in firms where I worked there was always pressure to take vacation time and often encouragement to take at least one full period of 15 days (3 weeks) in one period of the 25 plus days of my paid annual vacation leave. It was great. I could go to somewhere across the world, lie back on some foreign beach, have a drink by the pool, see the sites, soak up the culture and smile and think "I'm being paid for doing this.
_15_ days is one fortnight* + _1_ day,
_not_ three (3) weeks.
*A fortnight is _2_ weeks.
@@brigidsingleton1596 Most Brits work a five day week, so taking 15 days holiday equates to 3 weeks elapsed once you include weekends. When I worked in banking everyone had to take at least one 2 week holiday a year, for compliance purposes, and there was always pressure from management to use up your full holiday allowance.
Land of the free, the freedom nation, freedom this freedom that, Americans shout freedom more then Braveheart, free to do what? I know it's not the average Americans' fault. it's how you're raised, your culture tells you you're the greatest, most free country in the world constantly, i just find it bizarre how many still shout this, while living with these terrible worker rights and basically very poor health care for the masses, the raising kids up pledging allegiance in the greatest, freest country, is just a built-in way to stop Americans ever having another teaparty, you believe something enough you will never doubt it, sorry i normally don't get involved in comments about countries, but this one gets on my nerves
In the UK you are specifically prohibited from using your holidays for a sickness absence
I love that!
Mmmmmm not quite the case I use my holiday as sick all the time. I have a disability, they know I’m sick, I actually buy extra days for that reason.
*unbelievablybelievable*
Mr Ian Wright, could you point out where that is in the gov docs for me please as I can't find it.
@@jasmineteehee3612I don’t think so.
I use my holidays instead of sick if its short term sick. It looks better on my work record.
Your employer HAS to make sure that you take your holidays or THEY can get inti trouble.
You CANNOT use your holidays as sick leave.
I am officially retired, but choose to carry on working part time 12 hours a week. I still get 17 days paid holiday a year.
Not just Brits, most countries except the USA.
I worked for the government in the UK and you could take a whole year off sick, 6 months on full pay then 6 months on half pay.
As managers, we have an annual review, whereby your staff can assess you and answer set questions about you and give a score… in my firm, this made up half of your annual bonus score.
I once worked 11 months with no holiday. I got a call and was told I had to take a whole month off, effective from now best July I had😅
American corporations that operate in Europe are required by law to abide by all of the rights afforded to their workforce. They could do the same in America but they choose not to as there are no laws forcing them to,also the corporations aided by the politicians they have bribed don't want American workers to be subject to evil socialist practices.
I had 3 months off sick this year and was paid by my company. I now work 3 days a week and this was organised between myself and my employer. I still get 24 days holiday{vacation} days which equates to 8 weeks holiday plus sick pay. I work shop floor in a factory
My job in the uk i get 36 days paid holidays + 87 hours for working bank holidays + double pay for those hours.
Another great response from you. Thank you so much. Keep them coming please :-)
I got 33 days of paid holiday including bank holidays a year. 13 weeks of sick leave at full pay then half pay after the 13 weeks. When my mum died I was told to take as much time off as I needed. I had worked for the company for 43 years and my boss was the nicest person going. We were more like a family than just workers. I worked 39 hrs a week until I got to an age where I could do flexy time then I went down to a 4 day week. The UK is the best. I wouldn't want to live in any other part of the world.
Insofar as l have followed the US election preamble, the conditions of employment never seem to be raised, debated or become an issue in its social media outlets. The deep historical roots of social democracy in Europe, mayhap. In our civilisation our only moral value in existence is economic competition runs deep.
i work at the place for over 10 yrs and now I get 3 months off with pay because it long service leave.
UK here and as an example I get 38 days holidays a year. Sickness 3 months at full then unlimited at 75% (if it looks like you’re not coming back then a pay off is agreed). Get 20 days off if a direct member of the family dies, 2 weeks for a close relative. I think it’s got excellent maternity and paternity leave but I’ve not looked as I’m too old. They also provide excellent life insurance, private healthcare and pension.
Mexico and Canada are still in America, so is Peru. Brazil. Argentina etc.
yeah, however one is North and the other is South.
Hey bro. Like the channel. You moved 👍🇬🇧
Thank you!
Is it just me or is Neal Looking prim and proper after being married? Congrats.
In Germany and other countries they take anything to do with work (laptop, phone etc.) so that you can rest while on leave.
I work for the UK Government you get around 30 days leave a year and can carry forward 10 to next year. And you flexible leave you can use if you build up extra hours.
its funny because people in my real life wont believe that americans DONT get 6 weeks paid time off per year, a year maternity and unlimited sick pay and when i watch these videos online the americans barely believe we DO get these things hahhaha. Its wild what we take for granted in the uk like our healthcare system.
Take it as the American dream 🤔
Company I work for in 🇬🇧 I get full sick paye for six months so I don't lose a penny
Hi Neal love the channel,John here from UK .How come employers get away with this bullshit the way they treat the average person ?There would be huge riots and unrest if they tried that here.Comon great people of the USA make it happen .
You get up to 2 years of sick pay in the UK. You need to get a doctor’s note … I
The law has changed since that video was made, maternity/paternity leave is now interchangeable 😊
It was interchangeable 13 years ago, when my son was born my wife took 6 months off and transferred the remaining 6 months to me. The law had only just come in to be able to do this, before that dad's would get two weeks. Not sure how old this vid is but I dought it is 13 years old
Doubt *
Thank you for the info, that is surprising that the change was made 13 yrs ago. I believe the video is only about 3yrs old, so I assumed the law changed after that. I'd only heard about more recently, but it seems odd that the guy on the video got it wrong after he presumably researched the subject. Anyway, I am pleased your family got the benefit of the change, it certainly makes a lot of sense 🙋♀️🤗 @@ART_MONKEY
Looking smart Neal!! USA don't look after each other, they are not nice to each other.. The rest of the world are different..
hi hope your well got a little something for you to watch its a doc called where to invade next its a good watch all about this subject think you will find it shocking how bad you are treat in the usa with workers rights and welbeing
9:18 how did this dude learn math, 28 days leave is literally 4 calendar weeks, no more or less. It isn't 5.6 weeks 😂 Sort your sources out before you spout random non mathematical sheet out.....
Because a working week is 5 days, not a 7 day calendar week!
@@andyn6297 that's a fair point. I didn't think of that as most of the time I work 7 days a week...
So vote trump fix it
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
TBH Gov Statutory sick pay doesnt even cover your rent let alone other essential bills. However we dont have any healthcare costs if we're seriously sick. Also if illness covers your holiday leave those holiday days are recredited to your leave allowance.
