Just means it went anaerobic, doubtful the smell is from chemicals. Break it up some, spead it out/turn it for a couple days then mist it and itll improve. I used coco based peat free soil this year and was same. At first i also came to the same conclusion. (While i dont like compost thats not fully broken down for pots, for my beds i prefer it as my soil life seems to quickly dispose of organic matter. Best of luck

No, back in the 80's I worked for an accessory company. My job was a new car at the Mitsubishi dealership.. The car had only just come off the ship and still covered in wax. I completed the alarm system job . Few days later a complaint about a scratched windshield. I got the blame in the beginning. After a load of investigation. The cars on the ship are parked very close and window open. The workers walk on the cars and get in through windows. The scratches were a result of work boots. The glass is quite soft.

These peculiar coincidences _might_ be due to the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.
