Wales 2023. Tree damage due to ants and earwigs. No birds or predators.

I noticed this today. September 2023.
My phone camera let me down a bit.
Inside the brown discolourations,earwigs are burrowed into the sides of holes.
Ants are running up and down the trunk,probably for the fruit left on the trees.
When I arrived the stream of ants was four or five coming and going to every foot of the trunk.
Overdevelopment,gravel gardens,cats and a highly efficient sparrow hawk has led to a severe loss of wildlife.
This is more serious than it looks. Some sheds in my village are lopsided due to insect damage to their base.
