The trim and sleeve details are tackled in other videos. Why camo? I had rather a lot left...

I would like to find something to make smocking quicker. Could I smock the pleats with a slightly deeper stitch?
❤
Your work is beautiful. It seems to be the answer to questions I have long had about a dress on the original Twilight Zone series. There is 1 episode with the most creative use of stripes on a dress I have ever seen. The woman was rail thin, of course, and they made the dress very form fitting, yet with all the stripes going this way & that. Very symmetrically. I was just stunned by the expertise of sewing of the era. This video helps me understand a bit about how it was made.
I have a small pleater that I inherited from my mother's sewing aids. This is just an awesome video and thanks very much for sharing this. I loved it.
With this anazing tool, I might actually start doing something other than cartridge pleats! I'm absolutely loving the alternate pleating boards too. Pleats have always intimidated me, especially on thin and finnicky fabric they're a nightmare. But you made pleating that slippery fabric look like child's play with that pleating board! This is definitely going into my sewing arsenal. I may even make several boards for all occasions.
Thank you 👏
Hey I still have the question can it be washed after the pleases have been set? The video is amazing! It's such a nice look into how to actually make the pleading boards!
Thank you so much for doing this. As a nurse, my heart is touched.
I hand washed a beautiful pleated Liberty wool skirt and tried to iron pleats back painstakingly, but it was not consistent. Now I kno how to fix this myself. Thank u so much!🙏🏻👍
😍SOOOO GOOD! I've never seen this technique before. I love how low tech and simple it is to get that gorgeous finish.
😩. Make me one and sell it to me! ❤
Wow! Amazing.
It is extremely marvelous, love it, hope to get more from you, love from India.....
what a lovely and succinct tutorial. I'm working on a 1906(ish!) skirt right now and couldn't find any guides for adding completely finished pockets after the fact, which was horrible as my pockets were french seamed! the basting before you sew is a wonderful idea as I was very nervous about getting the placement exactly right. I'll still be doing that last line of sewing by hand, though, just in case......♡♡
Wow, this is incredible. I had no idea how pleats were made. When I was a kid, my mom used to make our clothes and sometimes she would go to a specialty shop to get the fabrics pleated for her projects. I always thought it was rocket science, until I watched your video. Thank you so much for solving the mystery for me. It's really surprising how easy it is to make pleats for garments. I wonder if you could kindly do a video on how to make Sunray pleats for a circle skirt made up of two semi circles. Many thanks in advance.
This was a very informative video🙌🔥everything in just one short video, detailed and straight to the point. I love it. Thank you ❤️
Nice
Very very good for your York.
I’ve watched many Hamilton Spencer tutorials and yours makes me feel like I can actually do it. Thank you
I try and very carefully strop the circular cutter blade on a piece of leather with polishing compound until the beveled edge has a mirror polish
Stropping at too steep an angle will end up dulling the edge. Don't press too hard, either
Thankyou so much!
Thank you so much. It made the process easier.
Thanks a million, It's really amazing lesson!
Do u sell them
Wonderful job!!! Going to my first comic con soon and want to go as Dr Strange. After watching this video, I think I seriously have my work cut out (pun intended) for me.
Recently I am making detailed doll clothing and the hidden closure on some dresses and finding antique fabric is making me crazy
I started out wantint to be a dress designer and I worked hard, my grandmother from the turn of the century showed me a lot, junior high and high school I learned a bit more, but then when I got to L.A. companies would hire me but before I knew it I was the sample model or some other thing. I don't think I was ever The Designer but more of a copy artist anyway. I have worked as an asistant to a designer. I come from Ohio and going to L.A. and stretching myself---but no one ever showed me a pleating board. I SIMPLY LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!
😻 That was cool 😎 🖖🏻
I'm late to the party and Amazon no longer carries the paper in the tutorial. Can anyone recommend an alternative?
It’s any unpasted wallpaper lining :)
@@JaleaWard thank you for the reply! I will try a search using those terms. Great video, by the way! I am going to make a bustle dress and need all the pleat cheats I can get!
This is gorgeous. :)
Beautifully explained, thank you kindly.
I had a tutorial on Ruching , which I thought I saved to the computer but now? Can't find it. Also, now I wonder what I was looking at. They made a grid and picked a stitch to a corner on a diagnal, It was complicated but I loved the effect. They did every other square.
What if you're trying to pleat silk fabric and the pleats come out? What is a stitching method that you can use to make sure they stay down?
I would love to see resources on how to make other styles of pleating boards! This was exactly what I was looking for thank you! 😊
What Arii said!
I love the ending 😂
Love the scene of you sitting down.😂 will you have an occasion to wear this dress. It'd be a shame not to since you put so much in to it. It’s beautiful.
Wow! I just heard about pleating boards for the first time. This was such a great tutorial on making one. I'm still a bit intimidated 🤣 The garment you shared at the end of the video was absolutely stunning!
You can do it! Even a flashy gown like that one is just lots of simpler techniques all added together :)
Thanks for making these videos. I'm finally almost finished my spencer... just need to do the petals!
Thank-you for all the work you went into documenting this whole process. It's very helpful!
Thanks for providing such a nice, detailed walkthrough! It's been super helpful!
❤️🔥💖💯
Thank u so much...I am now learning to sew and this is so helpful because my daughter have to wear pleated uniform so this helps alot
It turned out AMAZING!!!!! I would have never thought to use an airbrush to recreate the pattern on the skirt, or would have guessed that the airbrush was a Victorian invention! SO COOL!
I use kitchen twine for piping. It’s thin enough and made from cotton
Thank you so much for uploading this video! I was looking for an example as I want to made a pair for my husband for the next medieval fair we're having in our city.
I love those buttons and make a bracelet out of them. I'm not a costumer, I do enjoy sewing.
This a terrific idea, however, I want to make sheer curtains for my window and wondered if this would work on light material.
you can use iron on interfacing in place of the glue and cloth
I think that is a great alternative. I do think that the carpet glue will be less likely to shift than the interfacing as I have seen repeated pressing make it fail. As Jalea says "Be sure to let it cool completely!"
@@sewone3353 If you use a heavy cotton woven iron on interfacing like pellon 101 it works well.
Nicely done! Wow! Just wow!
