Wargamer Stories
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 เม.ย. 2023
I love the hobby of tabletop war games. Especially, battle reports that are linked together in a narrative campaign, in which each battle has an effect on the next. I create TH-cam content for those who also enjoy the battle reports of miniature tabletop wargames. My passion is to entertain and my goal is to motivate others to join our hobby that we all love.

Archer-Sierra: Episode 4 | BattleTech Alpha Strike Battle Report | Tamar Rising Chaos Campaign
This is a battle report for BattleTech: Alpha Strike, Chaos Campaign in the Tamar Rising setting.
This is the fourth battle report to the Archer-Sierra Campaign.
Players are battling for control of a resource rich asteroid: Archer-Sierra. Since this asteroid is a vacuum and low gravity, all equipment has been environmentally sealed (p. 85, BattleTech: Alpha Strike). However, we do not use special vacuum/gravity rules (p. 61, 62).
My players represent different factions/ armies under the greater umbrella of the Alyina Mercantile League and the Vesper Marches. Their decisions dictate this narrative campaign and which battles are fought in this campaign. This means bad decisions get punished- and battles are often not evenly matched. The players, including myself, are not professional players nor will ever claim to be. We make mistakes from time-to-time just like all humans who play this game.

Excited about Blkout but impossible to get in UK… 😢
I'm in the process of re-watching the entire playlist - the next phase will be *so* much fun, especially with our hand-picked units as reinforcements :D
This video was a lot of fun. Thank you!
I love this but I hate this short form of combat
Not a fan of Alpha Strike? It has its ups and downs.
@WargamerStories fastness and simplicity r clear, but I see mechs as big ass evolution of knights, I want those heroic moments when u shift ur side to receive more DMG just to hold off enemy but more so ur guys can achieve the mission, u simply can't achieve that heroism trough simple rules. But gods is it quick and comprehensive.
Ayyy
Yaaa
Comenting for the great and powerful algorithm
This is exactly the type of Alpha Strike batrep I've been looking for. Smashing work!
I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Another great report! 👍 I was wondering where you got your terrain from (the buildings and that great elevated rail)?
I bought them from various vendors on Etsy. There are a lot of options there! Search for 6mm scale terrain, epic scale, or battletech terrain- there are a lot of cool terrain pieces there!
Love this series. Hopefully the Chupacabras can at least pull a pyrrhic victory out of this campaign. Bust through, blast the space port and fight their way out as best as possible. After all the bad luck they've had over the last few battles they deserve that cake.
Quick and brutal!
Just want to ask a question besides playing battletech do you also play Warhammer 40k?
Once upon a time, I did. It was about a thousand years ago- way back when Astra Militarum was known as the Imperial Guard. I use to have a Tau army (with a bunch of crisis suits and a riptide) and an IG army (with some Death Korps from Forge World). It has been many, many moons. Unfortunately, I had to sell my armies a long time ago for <reasons>. Anyway, I love the universe! But I no longer have any armies (except a few models I saved for sentimental value).
Amazing as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Gonna be honest, the words might have been easier to parse if I was reading them. It just didn't work great, as written. Cool video though.
Do you mean close captions?
That little bit of bonus extra report is like a left leg in one of those build-a-figure action figure sets. If we combine the whole set, we get an entire extra battle report for free 😁 What's also funny is that my created unit ended up on the League side, but watching the game reports I still find myself rooting for House Corbyn. I feel some conflicting emotions coming up... 😂
Lol, "we are our own worst enemy"
Right, own up, who gave the skill 4 pilot the keys to the damn Blood Asp!!
I dunno, the players always go for skill 4 or 5. Oh well
@WargamerStories hey, no complaints here. It was great 😃
Extremely cinematic and enjoyable battle report. Shocked this doesn't have more views.
This is not going well for the Chupacabras... oof.
Tactical draw, strategic major win. Wow!!
I get where you're coming from regarding the kind of primarily infantry-focused Thaumadrift represented in this video, but speaking solely as a viewer: I'd *love* to see more Alpha Strike scaled infantry action. I'm positively uninterested in squad-level skirmish games by comparison
Same here! Platoon scale primarily infantry fights can be pretty intense and cereberal!
I love the 50 pounds of large rock you have on your battlemaps. Hahaha
Straight from the landscaping 😀
I wonder if that infantry air assault will be repeated on Blue Hole? I do think infantry combat is something missed out on in BattleTech. But it doesn't have to be the poor old traditional foot sloggers or the mounted cavalry boys in their trucks or apc's. Battle Armour does exist and provides opportunities that more traditional infantry don't. One silly idea I had for a force was a Drop Mech Company. Basically paratrooper force without the parachutes. Jump capable Mechs, medium mainly with one or two heavies, & Battle Armour Infantry to support. And dedicated dropships to transport the whole force. Need to seize or destroy an objective behind enemy lines. Or need to reinforce a failing position till heavier assets arrive. Drop these guys in and save time on doing the whole landing & disembarking thing. Can just pick them up or relieve them after the job is done. The 7th Light Cav Lance might have been the genome for this idea. Just upscaled and using jumpjets to skip the whole landing phase of the attack. One idea I had to represent the dropping onto the battlefield thing, is place a marker on where you'd like to drop your lance. Roll a scatter dice plus one or two regular dice to determine how far your troops drift off course from the landing spot. I'm thinking the higher you are the more dice you roll, there by adding risk to the manoeuvre. But there is a limit to what jumpjets do so I'm thinking standard drop height be 2 dice. If you have improved jumpjets or a light mech maybe higher, like 3. But I'm just spitballing this.
There are rules in Alpha Strike for hot dropping infantry from VTOLs and even aerospace assets (iirc), they’re quite fun to use. My favorite infantry unit for that are Jump Support Infantry, they’re nasty little infantry units at 8 points a piece. Two of those dropping behind a mech can ruin its day.
@kaminhuffcutt5103 ah thank you. I'll look those up.
Great battle report. I hope fortune will shine on the Chupacabras in the future.
How have I missed this series?! Curse you TH-cam! Subbed and I have some catch up to do.
There are two BattleTech campaigns, I hope you enjoy them!
You could legitimately teach maneuver warfare from these videos :)
From my experiences playing the tabletop, "ammo explosion" is going to be found scrawled all over the walls of my padded cell
Despite Thaumadrift not being your cup of tea I am a big fan of bizarre little commando actions like that which change the wider strategic picture. I think there was one in the Galtor campaign book which was a similar small-action break from the usual "giant force wargame" format
True! Boots on the ground can change the tide. Players are right now organizing their armies for when the Blue Hole campaign starts back up- and there will be an infantry presence throughout the conflict.
Please play dropzone commander with the same battletech campaign homebrew
If the Chupacabra player had destroyed the remaining 2 mechs on the field at the end of turn 4 would that have resulted in their victory?
You know what, you're right! I don't think it even occurred to the players at the time of the game neither. That means Top Hat was even that much closer to losing than he had originally thought! Great observation! :D
excellent battle report
These battlet reports are well produced and immersive. I can't wait for the next one.
New video yeeeeeei! 🎉
I'll be casting this to the big screen with breakfast tomorrow!
What's for breakfast? What is a breakfast fit for a champion?!
That little infantry action was great! Obviously not enough meat on the bones for an actual battle report, but it had a crucial outcome for such a small force committed! A good showing of their strategic utility!
Great video! Remember when your having a bad day that at least you weren't the Fenris pilot that managed to survive a battle just to be forced into the pilot seat of a Flea!
I know, right!? He risked his life and his reward was a flea... maybe there is a bonus check or danger pay for the mechwarrior.
The Thaumadrift action is going to go down as one of the coolest moments of the series. For hard fought intel to enable a few infantry to deal a major blow that changes the tide of a war of mechs. Its like the plot of a movie.
Agreed! th-cam.com/video/FPQlXNH36mI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=llKngohVgdb298ve
Little Hetzer that could needs a special name or paint job (or both. both is good.) If that lucky shot had done something super cool like ammo racked a mech, I would've laughed forever. The fact that like in a sign of utter defiance he just "Oh yeah?!" fires and crits a weaponsystem after just witnessing their three platoon mate vehicles get devastated.... like... I'm not sure how the Hetzer can get up to max speed with how big that entire crew's proverbial balls are. ... gotta love it.
Man, that Hetzer crew deserves a medal...or a raise...or both!
Both... both is good. :D
The Infantry "highlight" was well done and a good choice. Infantry centric battles are a rarity. There's a real novelty factor here that might be worth catching. I have to tip my hat to a player who is willing to go on the offensive with a primarily infantry force. Not something you see everyday! I've noticed your players have no qualms about destroying infrastructure. I'm curious if they'd be so aggressive in a 3025 campaign. Love your batreps. Keep it up!
I think it's really cool that they're very gung ho about destroying infrastructure. it shows it's on par with the universe. There seemed to be a recurring theme in the first two succession wars, as well as parts of the third - where anyone taking land, a planet, or whatever that had unique defenses, a special radar station, or some other kind of unique technology - the theme seemed to be "Eh. Not my problem to fix it." and they just blow it up. It doesn't matter if it was unique or not easy to repair, that wasn't the soldiers or general's problem. They wanted to deny their enemy from being able to use it, so they did. As far as I can tell from the stuff I read about the early history of the Battletech universe - it seems like no one gave a hoot or a holler about capturing anything anyways. I think it's very fitting that hey play to that kinda lore. "Area and equipment denial above all else" basically.
Real fun! I, for one, really liked the idea of the infantry battle. Excellent use of a small, mobile strike force to achieve a really important objective while the heavy metal was elsewhere.
Been waiting too long on this. You made my day. Can’t wait for blue hole too. And a two for one as well!
The return to Blue Hole is on the way. :)
RAAAAAAAAH WE LOVE ARCHER-SIERRA 🗣️🗣️🗣️
You will never know the joy of seeing a Wargamer Stories notification in your feed and watching it for the first time.
Two battles in one battle report? Lucky day!
It’s worth remembering that TAG in the V7 rules/errata also allows the target to count as though it is spotted for indirect fire. It’s kind of an important change. :)
You're right. And, the player used it for indirect fire.
Hard encounter .. three turns of movement and shooting to clear that many opponents, the Chupacabras had no real chance of achieving their objective here ... I think it was a bit harsh on the player given the campaign impact of this delaying action. I normally really enjoy your battle reports but this just felt too one sided to be fun.
I can see your point. However, Top Hat spent a lot of warchest points to deploy one company on a nearly suicidal spoiling attack. Then, the Chupacabra had 5 mechs (light mechs) sit out of the entire battle... cowering in cover. On top of that, the allies kept using their small amount of cover they had to break line of sight and decrease his exposure to Chupacabras' shooting. That doesn't even take into account for some of the lucky and unlucky dice rolls. The campaign never promises fairness. The players make decisions that have consequences. Then it is up to them to try to make good tactical choices to overcome obstacles... And of course, hopefully have lucky dice. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I hope that cleared it up a bit.
Where did you get that elevated rail system and automatic mining facility - those are super sweet!
Light mechs might be safe hidden in cover, but that’s not what they are built for! I think if the Chupacabra player utilised their light mechs better, they could have won. There was potentially an extra 30+ points of damage on the table if they’d used them aggressively to go up the side of the board, utilising their speed and small frames to get shots on the enemy whilst limiting their exposure. Imagine if turn 3 they had them all in short range? I agree that it’s unlikely they would have won the scenario without a stroke of luck but at the very least they’d have completely decimated the spoiling attack company.
@WargamerStories thank you, I've really enjoyed your Battletech campaigns and acknowledge that I may have a soft spot for the Chupacabras, who don't have much dice luck! Keep doing what you do, thank you!
Found them on ETSY! Search for 6mm terrain (or epic scale or even Battletech terrain). There are lots of cool options
I always enjoy your videos tremendously.
Best way to make my day is to see a new video!
Got to say it before someone else does... HETZERS GOT TO HETZ
That airmobile Infantry attack was pretty cool! a good maneuver to throw off the Chupacabras. Creative as well. Lets see how it goes
Pairing the Urban Mechs with The Heavy Ontos was a good mix. They were able to centralize their firepower and just be a death ball.
