Thanks! I remember when you were giving CPR for that GSA at the first place, it had those extra heaters in the cabin. So think how many years that car has suffered for non working resistor packet?
@@UnknownLuveLove it probably worked when the car was parked, these rusty connectors where probably fine then. But the engine had leaked oil long before it ended up in the barn, so those extra heaters where probably there due to unbearable oilsmell

Really like these deep dives, this time literally. Nice work to watch you do and explain. ððŠâ
When I started driving in the late 90's in Britain these were already rare. I found a 1982 one which only needed _a little_ welding but my father convinced me to buy a mk2 Astra (Kadett) instead. I never forgave him.
Thank you! It's always nice to listen to someone who enjoys this beautiful car that much. There are surely some little tricky points, but you can easily jump in a GS and drive 500 km without hassle. You just stop for petrol.
Suggested video topics, if that interests you: Is GS/A conversion from LHD to RHD possible? How different is the GS and GSA? Is it just an engine, g/box, trim, & dash update, or are there deeper differences? Can GSA engines & 5-speed gearboxes go into GS bodies? Can GS bumpers, dashes, & door handles be retro-fitted to a GSA for classic look? Can GS/A engines be tuned or tweaked reliably for a little more power? Were there any GS produced with GSA plastic bumpers?
@@martingarrish4082 there's several interesting topics there, thank you! ðð

@@Idylla-le-schnouck I have a wireless microphone, but didn't use it this time unfortunately.
Only ever been in one (Oh no not quite true... I was in a Birotor 2 years ago) when my uncle owned one from new in the early 80's. He was quite impressed and drove many a citroen afterwards. I was a kid below 10 years old and it impressed me very much. I really liked the ride and not even to a lesser extent, the engine sound. I still even remember that upto this day. My uncle had no issues with the car but he traded it in for something else a few years onward. My father in law had one in Austria and often says it was one of the best car he ever had , beside a 2cv as a student. He also had it from new, a few years , so never made aquantance with the gremlins and the brown daemon. As with many citroens from that age, if you do maintenance it will be fine for a long time. But at an interval of 5000km for my ID 19 it also makes running costs relatively high, especially if you rely on a garage doing it for you.....
Donât forget one of the best things. The front suspension is very easy to work on.
The benefit of living in Australia - the GS Break that I have access to (before we took it off the road for an engine rebuild) didn't even need the heater connected! The only part that let us us down in that car was a relatively new pump gaiter that split, resulting in a rather large LHM leak...
Great insights as well as great comments and experiences below. Cheers ððŠâ
Another enjoyable video. Thanks! I agree that the heater isnât very good. The heat output is poor in extreme cold. Canât say that I have the oils smell issue, but my engine is oil tight so that probably helps. Reliability is good. Never had any serious issues. Just the things that routine maintenance takes care of. Gâs like to be used. I keep mine on the road as far into the year as I can. I had my G in use today. Lovely bright and chilly Scottish Autumn day and it loved it!
Like your view to GS...and all your videos...I have had 17 GS-es and all I can say is that GS is very unique and special car...Simply with all his flaws, he is adorable and easy to love...
@@NikolaCopic032 Totally agree, you have 17 reasons to know what you're talking about concerning GS ðð
Always enjoyed the GSð
Interesting aspects that you mention in the video. I have never had any bad experiences with the GS (even not with my GS 1015 cm build 1971 in the 80s and one day 1985 by minus 20 degrees) heating in winter. I have never smelled oil either. I currently use a GS practically every day - even in winter. It always starts and heats very well, so much so that I have to turn the heating down. The secret to driving and using a GS every day, in my opinion, is: do every service and maintain the car like a small airplane.
@@MPCapa That's the key, the maintenance ð
@@citromec In 1985, during the cold winter, my parents had a DS 23 Ambulance with a high GRP roof. Sitting in the back was very cold. But in comparison, during the same period, it was cozy and warm in the GS!

My mom bought a GS in the late 1970s, which I was able to buy off of her. I remember the garage used some Dinitrol oil spray in all the cavities, cost a lot but it should have prevented rust. Unfortunately when I left Switzerland for 7 years I had to sell it. Sadly, I didn't know what happened after that. There are hardly any GS for sale in Switzerland these days, a 2CV costs as much as a nearly new midsize car, prices are insane high. Love your channel, makes me feel young again ð Cheers ððŠâ

I love your love for these cars, equally brilliant and quirky. People who are not really interested in the facts tend to disqualify the GS/GSA as: unreliable, temperamental, impossible to maintain properly. They forget that CitroÃŦn sold some 2.5 million of them. Slightly more, even, than of the BX. I don't know if that is what you intended to do with your TH-cam-channel, but what you are showing us, by way of your loving restorations, is how well engineered the GS/GSA actually was.
So well said!

@@Idylla-le-schnouck thanks for noticing, I had an annoying struggle with the tech this weekend and that ended up with unintentionally taking the video down. But now it's hopefully on its way back before lunch.
@@citromec Great! I see it in the list again and will soon watch it. I am actually an ID19 driver, but I love GSA content. The GS(A) is perhaps the most citroenesce citroen with hydropneumatics and "double duckling" 4 cil. boxer engine. Lovely! But coiuld it be that a D type is a little better at maintainability and a bit more robust? Less plastic, more space under the bonnet. better access. You have both, so you'lll know the answer ;-)
When charging a battery on a C6, do you attach the charger to the terminals under the bonnet? Or attach the croc clips direct to the battery in the boot? How is it done? Thanks. In advance

Since i have been subscribed to some Canadian French car madness. I did get this video suggestion by Yt. So one I will say the thing has lot of engineering done. I do understand now why it's very hard to repair without proper training. Usually all these French cars are just so neglected or in a very awful state. Seen a few very nice XS lately that have changed my perspective on these cars from previous times. M7 nuts and bolts are also very widely used on some German cars.
Good job as always ð

My boss had 2WD one of these, so I've travelled a fair distance in one. So well engineered and like something out of the space age. PSA cars of this era were something special, with fantastic ride and handling, and the plush versions having the most amazing seats. My car from this era was a Pug 305 GTX Estate - looked stately, but had a 1905cc engine, fast steering, close ratio gear box, lowered suspension, and a go faster strip - all from the factory. 238,000 miles before someone ran into the back of it. The current crop of PSA cars just don't compare with the golden days of AX,BX.CX, 205, 305, 306, 405 & 605. How can it have gone so badly wrong for them?
Lots of rust indeed, thanks for saving this BX! Got you CitroÃŦn ð Cheers ððŠâ

â@@dortkommendieclowns1474 Sweden is not a CitroÃŦn country, for GS-parts I usually buy from FranzÃķsische klassiker in Germany. There's a CitroÃŦn workshop in the Netherlands thats specialize in BX, de snoekfabriek, they sell parts. I haven't tried them yet but they seem pretty well organised.
