Imagine being mauled by a mountain lion and you think “if only that dingus hadn’t told me not to bring my gun.”

Indeed not a bad way to end the day at all!

Given my lack of balance I would have face planted a dozen times or so in that mud.

Just looked at a map, and for the first time I see how enormous New Mexico is!

That train is the southern transcon. It's mostly intermodal cargo going from the port in long Beach to the east coast. It also crosses with the PCT, not far from the McDonald's in El Cajon. There's another northern transcon you'll pass over in Montana which also crosses the pct in Washington. Anyways, grants isn't much to write home about but there's a lot of uranium mines around grants. Don't touch any odd looking rocks.

Al, you have outdone yourself again! I feel dirty, muddy and grossed out by drinking from animal troughs. It could be worse, I might have to poop 💩 outside and even have to bury my waste! Great filming. Always amazing all the different types of terraine. The dirt here can get sloshy, slippery like what you've been through. Not fun!

Man that walk on the cliffs edge is really beautiful. I couldn’t find the way up so I walked the road. All the way to grants.

Al, today’s video was strikingly and unexpectedly beautiful! All of your detours made for a very interesting and educational trip.

I was given the name Shark Bait when I was 15 and spent two weeks on the AT for my first ever backpacking trip. I was HIGHLY anxious and heard a stick break one night and a friend shoved (nudged) me towards the noise and said “shark bait ooh ha ha” (like in finding nemo). Yelling “shark bait ooh ha ha” became a recurrent theme whenever there was a strange noise. I got a good laugh and was able to get through my fears. Almost 12 years later the name has stuck. My dog’s name is Karen after her apparently *striking* resemblance to the cougar/mountain lion in Talladega nights

It is monsoon season in New Mexico when this video was posted. I know you're a month out of real time, so you're probably in Colorado when this video came out.

As a nm native I thought it was kind of weird that they had so much road walking through that area. It's not very glamorous. Things get better the closer you get to grants. Take care on the reroute near Abiquiu. It's more road walking, but the views of the lake are worth it.

FYI: Snazzy, about to come to Cuba Saturday AM hasn't seen a good tree for quite a while. Energizer, ahead of him is slogging through snow/slush/rain in the San Juans and watching for lightning. Always something there to offset the beauty.

If it's still really hot, I might have been tempted to put the clothes on after they came out of the washer without putting them in the dryer. That's a cool place; maybe in another lifetime I'll run a place like that.
