Fans Celebrate John Rudge’s 80th Birthday with Statue Unveiling at Vale Park, Burslem
I was at Vale Park today for the unveiling of John Rudge’s 17ft statue, a fitting and powerful tribute to the legendary Port Vale manager on his 80th birthday. Fans gathered in numbers to honour Rudge, whose influence on the club and its history is unparalleled. The atmosphere was electric as the statue, funded by supporters, was revealed in the heart of the Hamil Road fan zone.

Unlocking History: The Tale of Stafford’s Forebridge Lockup
มุมมอง 2673 หลายเดือนก่อน
Built in the early 18th century from stones of a medieval hospital and part of a 17th-century inn, this Grade II listed building was used to detain local drunks and vagrants. Despite its demolition in the 1970s to make way for the Queensway ring road, the lockup was carefully re-erected nearby. Revealing the History of the Hall Behind Park Hall's Name
Never knew about the banking use! 😃 This whole area is great. The nearby village of Harley Thorn has a fantastic name! Always a bit freaked out going inside so never have done. Thanks 👍
It's not the council doe is it it's people fighting and shit there losing money over clubs and doing drugs in clubs plus spiking glasses and rape assaults
Are yeah empty pls
Drugs have taken over
Duty seems a very painful thing 😢
Where are they?
I had friends who lived in the villas during the late 90s early 2000s, all of us used to sit on the lawn in summer with a picnic and some wine, its like being in a small rural village in the middle of a city, great architecture and history, thanks for sharing, really interesting 😊
Great video ❤
I love this really brightens the place up
What's happed? I moved away from the area fourteen years ago. Every time I csme back on a visit home I'm taken aback by What's happened.
I filmed up Hanley today and yesterday it’s sad to see so many businesses/ buildings shut, lost history in all the 6 towns I’ve visited
Great video and brave going up after dark it’s a dangerous place now sadly
I was born n bred in Stoke-on-Trent. I had my first house as a adult in Burslem. It used to be a lovely lively town. We used to pub crawl on a Friday night from Tunstall to Burslem up through Cobridge and end the night in Hanley
I was visiting the area and noticed the streets on the estate were named after aircraft. Another great video. Thank you for filling in the blanks. 👍
Thanks for watching!
@TheRedHairedStokie you are so informative when it comes to Stokes very interesting past. So no thank you.👍
The one atop of Waterloo Road, by the traffic lights, used to be filled with water when I was a lad; it too, had a drinking fountain.
Municipal airports were quite common in the inter-war period. Walsall had a site near Aldridge, and Wolverhampton at Bobington; this is still in use. An excellent video on Meir
Brilliant. Pure legend happy birthday Mr rudge and thanks for all you have done and continue to do at Port Vale❤
I enjoy all of your videos despite being an Australian but with uk connections. Love the history and all the interesting details. Keep it up ,it’s all very informative 😊
Glad you like them!
I used to work for WT BELL in the 80's john used to come in for fuel in his company car provided by Mr Bell, I would smile and be polite ask how his day had been, but Mr Rudge wouldnt even look at me, and if he did, his look would be like he had just troden in somthing, so Im not a fan.
He's bald, he's bent....
Wow they did a great job with that statue.
I love these stories. The black eyed children one, I have known about for years ( I live near the Chase) but I don't know anyone who's seen them. Also I grew up by the bloody steps and was taught about the Christina Collins murder as a child.
As a kid I remember the White Lion pub and even though i was way too young to drink I was really sad when they knocked it down.
Sorry from Stoke on Trent but where is the villas ? in Stoke or stafford
how come i dont recieve your notifications until about 3 or 4 days later?
When online shopping wasn't a thing...!!
No dustheads in those days either
What the fuck would a vampire want to live in Stoke? They are supposed to be able to fly. I'm unceasingly amazed that rats don't to an exodus. Sorry, that wasn't meant to be antisemitic.
Not a single tree growing out the roof or wall of a building. Amazing.
open shops and people. thats not two things you see in hanley longton and stoke now
Ive was brought up on parkhall estate 1971 onwards we always playe d on this bunker @davidbemrose yes u are correct there was an underground bunker that we once prised the hatch open and if im right Anthony bromfield went down first with him being oldest with a torch he cleared all the cobwebs so some of us younger ones could go down with torches it was cool benches on either side sure there was a door going into another room years later when in mid twentys i returned as my late mum n dad still lived there my dad did till January this year sadly passed away aged 84 ,the rangers told me all about it and the centre over the back of hills that used be open new it closed few years ago dont no if has ever reopened but it had all the information on it im sure the old ranger at the time told me soldiers actually stayed there for a while in war hope this helps
Have been down under stoke station on a ghost hunt there there's apparently one that goes from the station to the north staffs hotel across the road
One of my ex's dad used to work at home farm so spent some time exploring the old hall
Love the accent. Awesome
Hard to believe Hanley once attracted people from outside the area for its clubs and The Void had the world's best DJs turning up. I don't recognise my city anymore
Maybe get involved, get some access and community benefit. Something you never had when it was a mono-cropped, nature depleted landscape?
"valuable farmland" ? If it's that valuable why isn't anyone growing anything? For the numpties objecting? How about you start buying British grown food and start paying a decent price for it to make it worthwhile for farmers to use their farmland in the first place. Unused farmland is criminal. Use it or lose it.
Grass. Grass makes hay. Grass makes haylage. Grass makes silage. What do you think your British grown meat eats? Just because there are crops in a field, doesn't mean it's isn't being used to grow anything.
@@TheRedHairedStokie again. Let's repeat. IF ITS COST EFFECTIVE THEN WHY ISNT ANYONE GROWING ANYTHING?. it's a simple question mate. I know full well how the food chain works but I also know that somehow New Zealand farmers can send their lamb to the other side of the planet and their it to the Brits for less than the Brits can grow their own meat. Sounds like to me that British farmers need to shut the fuck up and sell up.
Nimbyism and nonsense at its finest.
I live nowhere near Werrington but I’m against it.
Money. This country has wasted £100 s of billions in the last 4 yrs and Brexit has been such a success as well as we don’t manufacture any money the neoliberals see money only coming from businesses “investing” money which actually means r&@ing pillaging and taking environment assets from the population
I remember the orange windsock that flew at the edge of grindley lane and watchng the gliders go up from my bedroom window. I dont think Rootes made cars at Meir, the factory was built specifically for the war effort and passed to Simplex Electric at the end of the war
I remember going there as a toddler, it was very busy and there was a bit of algae growing at one end of the pool. We got the train back to the main gardens. Years later when John Broom from Alton Towers bought it, I went back as an adult when my dad was putting fairground rides in and the pool had just been filled in. Me and dad explored the caretaker's house instead which was a lovely art deco place matching the cafe and changing rooms.
it flooded so badly this autumn (2024) that it blew all the drain covers off in the village and water spouted up. A road at the bottom of the new housing development (Lymers Yard) in St Thomas Road buckled up and had to be closed for a week.
money talks, unfortunately. A solar farm will make a very small number of people very rich, and probably stands more chance of getting planning than a meir-park sized housing estate
This house is for sale now.
Beautiful houses nearly bought one last year but sold so fast
Some countries in Europe have been putting solar "farms" above carparks, which keep the cars in the shade, do not destroy rural land and can benefit EV charging.
Unfortunately, humans don't live very long, in the grand scheme of things. So for some people, it's about maximising their income, in the short term. Hence bent coppers, bribed officials, mafia bosses, and so on. This even stretches to the average farmer, sitting on several millions of £'s worth of land, that is otherwise unprofitable. I have farming relatives, so I know the struggles they go through to make a quid or two. So when someone knocks on your door and offers you a few million £ for your fields, what are you going to do?
Basically agricultural land always has significant planning restrictions, simply purchasing agricultural land doesn't allow any kind of subsequent use. So restrictions on what can be done with land currently classed as farm land must first be changed which can only be done by politicians / councils / govt. A business can't purchase farm land & then just do whatever they like with it.
Surely the loss of farm land, can only be blamed on the Government, and the farmer that sold his / her land for profit. If our Government wasn't trying to screw farmers into the ground, there would be no need to sell out to energy companies.
Just couldn’t watch this it’s too depressing I lived in Werrington and passed through Welty Rocks it’s so peaceful and beautiful what the hell are we doing in the name of so called net zero 🥲
If not a solar farm it will become housing. Towns villages and hamelets acoss the UK are being joined up. Unless an MP lives in the area everwhere will be considered for housing. Green belt is already being built on.
Come to loggerheads and see the damage more houses do to the environment
@@scottessery100 completely agree. What's the answer? The population has increased by a 1.2 million plus another 150 thousand via the back door( front door) in the last 12 months. There is a greater need for housing and services than ever before.
@@EnglishCad Of course There is indeed an urgent alleged need for dealing with large scale consistent & deliberate treason by all UK corporates & politicians local & national. There is clearly no need for more building of any type in the UK obviously. For example Forcing people / families to live in high rise flats or landless rabbit hutch housing without access to a minimum of at least 3000 m^2 of land per family is extreme human cruelty. Obviously - NO atmospheric CO2 = No Life & Climate Change Fraud is a scam.
