My Favourite Area So Far! | Dark Souls 2 - Part 4
Sup Wuggle Bugs!! It's been too long, good to see y'all again. In this episode we explore No Man's Wharf, and I gotta say, I absolutely love the design of this area. It has a completely different feel than any area I've found so far, and I really like the setup of each little building section with its own set of mobs to handle.
After that, we check a few goodie boxes off the list and find a few surprises... And then make our way, through some twist of fate, to the gutter... Which is ironic because that quickly became my least favourite area of the game so far.
Anyways guys I hope you enjoy this one. I wanted to say again, from the bottom of my heart, I'm really sorry about the delay on this episode. I know a week is already too long to wait for these vids, so I've made some adjustments to how I structure my daily schedule, and knocked streaming down to 3 days a week. So here's to not having to do that to you guys again.
I really appreciate you hopping in for the videos and leaving comments about tips, funny moments, and especially your own experiences with the game :). Thank you all so much.
PLEASE! Somebody help this poor discord link!! Someone threw it here and left it for dead!!!

THE PURSUER & Heide's Tower 2.0 | Dark Souls 2 - P3
มุมมอง 4.2K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Hey guys! Today it's back in Forest of the Fallen Giants and Heide's Tower of Flame for what I think, for now, are the last times in a while. I finally found The Pursuer (now I know why you guys wanted me to go through that door) and got revenge on a certain someone... Then I make my way through Heide's Tower of Flame again, but this time it's different. Fantastic. Guys. I STILL LOVE THIS GAME....

You got so many good weapons in this episode. Also, this is the only Fromsoft game where bare fists are actually decent. They scale with strength. There's also a ring you can get to make them a lot better. Plus, there are several fist weapons that are really cool

You can use a Flame Butterfly to light the torch whenever needed. I use them to illuminate certain areas so I can keep track of where I've been. This video was fun and captures much of what DS2 is: you transition from a beloved area to one you dislike, and then back to another you love, lol. However, we also saw a few questionable design choices, such as the enemies with knives infused with dark magic, they have a black glow almost invisible in a dimly lit area like the gutter, you to lose health if you use the shield without even realizing it. This is kind of a jerk move. DS2 has quite a few of them lol Great video as always! The time passed really fast! It didn't feel like more than 2 hours

Ahhh the gutter. The lovely unlit gutter. "I don't wanna, but I gutter." My first gutter run, I also didn't know to light the way. I made a last gasp dash for the second bonfire and died of poisoning just as I was reaching out my desperate hand towards it, maybe six feet away from it. But it's the worst parts you remember most fondly.

The Gutter and the Gultch; two of the most polarizing areas in DS2 and you arrived at them in one video, which as always was fantastic When it comes to the areas of DS 2 you need to see them as chapters and these chapters also have sub-chapters that lead to a conclusion. If you keep that in mind then you ll be just fine. BTW one advice: You noticed that the enemies brought you to a bonfire (more or less)😅 That often means that you need to explore the area thoroughly first. Running through areas equals suicide !!! As always keep it up Wuggs, you re doing an amazing job as always

Oh wow a LOT happened this episode, so I thought I'd provide some explanations without spoilering anything you'll encounter later on. 6:00 The torch hollow is not a bug, but a friend! Took me a while to figure it out, but he'll follow you around the whole map, keeping away those who are afraid of the light! The pharo's lockstone and carrying a torch helps with the area as well. It is really satisfying lighting all scones which show your progress! Still, you did surprisingly well in no mans wharf, even without torches! 18:30 Notice when you get closer to her, she lowers her mask even more, hiding her face... Vitality & carry weight- super important. The less you weigh, the more stamina you regenerate and the better your roles get. I heavily recommend playing around with carry weight! Useless funfact: There is a bell just above the lever you pulled in order to ring said bell. If you shoot the bell you can also ring it! Pretty cool things for trading: a torch in dark places helps you find them, weird way 2:00:00 That bug is a little weird, but also a friend! She heals you when you are poisoned, never attacks you either because she does so out of the kindness of her heart or the devs running out of time. The game has a lot of strange interactions, so buying tools that seem very weird and unpractical at first, have a lot more value in the long run for these interactions.

Oh man the Gutter portion was kind of a frustrating watch . That area is annoying enough as it is but refusing to use the torch made it so much harder on yourself. Seeing you get angry at the game as you walk right past unlit braziers was brutal! I'm sure you're already being chirped at for it so I won't pile on lol. That's part of what makes this a first time playthrough, you're bound to make mistakes and you're bound to accidentally ignore mechanics or interactions that would be life-savers. Happens to us all. Just have to slow down once in a while and think "what am I missing here?" Another fun episode though, and I'm loving the marathon lengths! Can't wait to see where you end up next week.

You should do Lost Bastille, and then there's other bunch of areas that you should do before the gutter but that's just because the enemies there are tougher, but if you feel comfortable doing it then it's fine. It doesn't really matter the order in which you do the first major areas in the base game

  • @TheSuperColonel
    @TheSuperColonel 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

Gutter and Black Gultch is basically Blighttown. I recommend at least a+6 weapon. Those Tar monsters can also drop good upgrade mats. Fire can ignite the oil and fire barrels.......and the game has fire arrows. You can light your torch at the bonfire or use the butterfly and then light up any area sconge so the area has more visibility. Most DS2 areas have plenty of places you can light up. I recommend completing Lost Bastille fully. And if you look around you can find an optional area there with a slightly tweaked DS1 enemy at its end.... Pursuers are sub-bosses. They despawn if you move out of their arena. Likely save and load or bonfire rest will reset them. They do not respawn once killed. A fire sword is a very bad weapon against enemies in water. Lighting is better. As durability is a thing in DS2 good idea to have a secondary weapon. Strike dmg weapons are good against armored enemies and they are kinda common. Lost Bastille has a good strike dmg weapon.

30:10 Regarding stats (no spoilers). Ds2 actually halves str requirements for two handing a weapon, while the other games actually require you to have 2/3 of the str stat. Example in ds2: Youu can wield a weapon that requires 20 str and 10 dex if you two hand it with 10 str and 10 dex (dex stays the same and str doubles). Example in other games: You can wield a weapon that requires 24 Str and 10 Dex if you two hand it with 16 Str and 10 Dex (16 + 50% = 24 str and dex stays the same). Like the zweihander in ds 1 (different requirements in each game).

I also enjoy No Mans Wharf and the more environmental focused levels of DS2. you could've lit all the torches around that and the Gutter and they stay lit permanently. the Flame Butterfly is a consumable that will light a torch without a bonfire. very handy! not sure if you recognized the name Carhillion, but that's Rosabeth's teacher. if you use a soul vessel to change your INT stat you can get him to move to Majula, but you would need 2 so you can change back. & finish the Black Gulch first, just make sure to find a familiar NPC to summon for the boss there. Good luck!

Okay dude... we gotta talk. I'm gonna try to keep this as constructive as possible, but I'm gonna be honest right out the gate I'm pretty disappointed right now... Rushing through No-man's Wharf without a torch is one thing, but rushing through the gutter complaining that you can't see anything is a whole other level. This was genuinely painful to watch, and you're blaming the game even though it already gave you the tools to easily mitigate this problem... Lighting torch sconces on your way is also a really good way to map where you've been. It's really frustrating watching you get mad with the game making these kinds of mistakes, which should be owned by you, is a mistake that will ultimately change your opinion on how you feel about this game overall. You're playing the game like you just can't stand to play it for a second longer... that does not make me feel good at all as a big fan of it. As a committed member to this channel, I'm already having reconsideration to finish this playthough with you, and that sucks so much. I look forward to these episodes a lot, but I can't watch one my favorite games be judged like this over easily managed issues that were YOUR fault, not the games. Also, SOME bosses kinda suck, but some of them are very good... you will never know though if you just blast through with summons. When you make a declaration that the bosses are bad and that's why you're gonna summon as much as possible, I just hear a whole bunch of other peoples opinions coming out of your mouth. If you want to summon, then summon... fine, but summoning to rush through to get this game over with, again, doesn't feel good as a fan, or that you're just believing other people's bad opinions over your own experience... If you want to play the game, then play it like you WANT to play it. If you don't, then fine...don't play it, but I won't watch a game I love get sh*t all over from here on out for no good reason. The random negative comments are already starting and it hurts. "Combat isn't exactly a strength of this game"... maybe not, but it's literally as good of combat as DS1 had, and you loved that, so what else could be different now?. Do you see that you're letting people's opinions affect your enjoyment of the game? I swear to god... if you start to make make b-team comments.... I hope you understand that my frustrations are because I was invested in you liking your time this game, and you started the playthrough out well... It seems my fears are being realized though. It would be nice if you proved me wrong here in the coming episodes.. but we'll see. I have a feeling I might get some negative feedback from the group for this, but it had to be said.

You didn't kill any NPC's, people just like to leave those messages whenever there's a non-aggressive enemy. That hollow can follow you around and provide torch light though, if you let him. Since I doubt you'll go back at this point, I'll fill you in -- the creepy, long-armed creatures are afraid of light, and will become incredibly easy to kill if you light the area, or bring a torch. The torch can be a game-changer in dark areas, as long as you're ok without a shield.

  • @TheSuperColonel

You can light your torch at a bonfire and you can use your torch to light those sconges around the area to light up the place and increase your lock on distance. Those Dark Stalker enemies are afraid of the lights. That said the Sailors also throw oil at you and fire damage or lit torch would have caused an explosion and big damage to you. Torch time is limited, those friendly torch hollows have a good chance to drop them. They also respawn 12 times as usual. Bleeding is very weak in DS2: 200 flat dmg, reduced max stamina for a short while, and slower walking. Dark Souls 2 poison is very strong in DS2: 1-1.1k hp dmg over 20 seconds. Poison Jars are kinda common and can also poison enemies. Going into water will wash of poison. Crafting materials are MUCH more common in DS2 than in DS1 or DS3 so you can upgrade more liberally.

Long part, fun to watch and lots to comment on :D 1. "Gavlan wheel, Gavlan deal" is just a phrase. Basically, he likes trading, this is all he says. 2. The coffin which changed your body is just switching the Gender of your character. You are currently playing a female character. Getting in it again is changing it back to male. 3. The Pharros Lockstone in Nomans Wharf indeed only lights up the area. I think it would be more useful if the player actually gets a Pharros Lockstone shortly before, but the light can help with those creatures which were in Nomans Wharf. Because they hate light and you will not really have to fight them if it is not dark there. I THINK this is also the purpose of this torch-wielding guy who is not hostile. I guess he is a little help for that area. 4. Speaking of non-hostile enemies - the giant Ant you killed was not an NPC, she was just a non-hostile enemy. In fact, she cures poison, but her gas also lowers your equipment durability. But it is not a big deal that you defeated her, you are not missing out on anything. Players just like to write things like "Dont you dare" or "friend ahead" for non-hostile enemies. 5. Regarding the Torch - you can light it at the Bonfire, on already lit torches standing around and with Flame Butterflies. You have found at least one (but did not read it), they allow you to lit the torch when not near a Bonfire. Lighting the Torches in the Gutter makes it a lot better and actually bearable to play, but the area is also not great when lit up. Just if you want to explore there, using the Torch and lightning up the area makes it better. 6. You still have a Bone Dust to burn :) 7. I am happy that you dont want to summon for the DLCs. They really step it up a bit when it comes to bosses, but the Maingame also has some nice bosses.

Lots of progress this episode! Did not expect you to get through the gutter considering you started in no man’s wharf lmao Absolutely hilarious that you went through some of the darkest areas of the game and didn’t use a torch a single time 😂 Wuggs: complains for several minutes about the gutter being dark->picks up torch-> “oh I should use a torch” -> proceeds to never use a torch 😂 In my playthrough I was lighting up torches left and right in both no man’s wharf and the gutter, I was going crazy because of how dark those areas were otherwise 😂 Also I absolutely died to your reaction of both killing the torch hollow and the beetle. To ease your soul, don’t worry, there wasn’t any dialogue or anything like that, the beetle is simply friendly and cures your poison 👍🏻

Something about fall damage in dark souls 2, it scales with your equip load, so with a decent bit of health and going completly naked, you dont need the cat ring to jump in the well in Majula. Gutter actually looks real neat if you light all the fires with a torch, and if you light all the scones with a torch in Things Betwixt something happens. Speaking of Things Betwixt, and the coffin there, once you find out what it actually does, it gives some more meaning to the name of the area. As for the No Man's Warf flame and torch hollow buddy, the creatures up there are afraid of light and dont attack if you hold a torch or use one of those two.

First, I'm fairly certain your supposed to use a torch going through the gutter. Helps a lot imo to remember that you can use torches. Second, the torch hollow in No Man's Wharf and the Ant Queen in the Gutter are "friends" but not NPCs and don't talk. The torch hollow is "hostile" but has no attacks, it just follows you while carrying a torch. The Ant Queen produces special mist. It does mild durability damage to your equipment, but also rapidly cures poison. (read more for what the sarcophagus does) I see you found the special gender-change sarcophagus.
