Haha yes came to say the same, that part made me giggle hehe. “wheeling and dealing” means like in the act of business to sell stuff and make deals and the like.
@@MikMogus insert the "glutch, glutch, gluk" sounds from Gavlaan constantly swigging from his bottomless ale mug, and you've got a perfect performance.👍
The Gutter is much more enjoyable to go through when you bring a torch and light everything up. On a totally unrelated note, there are a few areas where you get a little reward for lighting up every sconce.
You are missing out at the amazing light effects by lighting scones with the torch. This also activates secrets like if you light all the scones in the tutorial area. The warf and the gutter look amazing fully lit.
I absolutely loved the torch mechanics in DS2. I had to get comfortable using them when I first played this, but once I did, they made my life so much easier in some places. And yes, the lighting effects are great! Praise the torch 🔥
WUGG I remember the 3rd thing I wanted to remind you of. IF someone hasn’t spoiled / explained the stone coffin the mat changes the nature of your being it’s simple to understand if you are naked when you do it. Go back to the coffin strip down make note of what your character looks like then jump into the coffin and look at yourself.
Oh man the Gutter portion was kind of a frustrating watch . That area is annoying enough as it is but refusing to use the torch made it so much harder on yourself. Seeing you get angry at the game as you walk right past unlit braziers was brutal! I'm sure you're already being chirped at for it so I won't pile on lol. That's part of what makes this a first time playthrough, you're bound to make mistakes and you're bound to accidentally ignore mechanics or interactions that would be life-savers. Happens to us all. Just have to slow down once in a while and think "what am I missing here?" Another fun episode though, and I'm loving the marathon lengths! Can't wait to see where you end up next week.
Since you're already past it, Torch bro wasn't an NPC, he's a none hostile "trap". Can be used to kinda help walk around without using your own torch, but his primary purpose is to follow you around and get hit with one of the oil bombs that are being thrown at you which causes a big explosion (obviously) which if hes following close enough behind and you're getting ganked or arent completely healed, it'll probably kill you too.
Death by enemies : 31 Death by gravity : 18 (+11 this Episode) Dennis : 9 Dragon rider : 2 The pursuer : 2 Death by traps : 1 Old Dragon Slayer: 1 best death award : 2:01:53
Something about fall damage in dark souls 2, it scales with your equip load, so with a decent bit of health and going completly naked, you dont need the cat ring to jump in the well in Majula. Gutter actually looks real neat if you light all the fires with a torch, and if you light all the scones with a torch in Things Betwixt something happens. Speaking of Things Betwixt, and the coffin there, once you find out what it actually does, it gives some more meaning to the name of the area. As for the No Man's Warf flame and torch hollow buddy, the creatures up there are afraid of light and dont attack if you hold a torch or use one of those two.
Those things all over the gutter with the small pile of bones on top of them are actually torches that you can light...If you use your torch and light them as you go it makes navigating much easier! They stay lit when you die so you can see where you have been, plus it makes it easier to see...
Another great episode! When it comes to summoning NPCs, I’d recommend only summoning NPCs that you have met before in the world, as lots of the summon phantoms are just randos. And also don’t summon for important bosses which you’ll usually know when you are about to enter. Some of the late game bosses and almost all of the DLC bosses are really cool and don’t require phantoms.
There's only two NPCs that actually have questlines that require summoning. I don't want to spoil which ones unless he asks (but someone probably already has)
The Gutter and the Gultch; two of the most polarizing areas in DS2 and you arrived at them in one video, which as always was fantastic When it comes to the areas of DS 2 you need to see them as chapters and these chapters also have sub-chapters that lead to a conclusion. If you keep that in mind then you ll be just fine. BTW one advice: You noticed that the enemies brought you to a bonfire (more or less)😅 That often means that you need to explore the area thoroughly first. Running through areas equals suicide !!! As always keep it up Wuggs, you re doing an amazing job as always
darkness affects your lock on range, using torches or lighting up other things will make your lock on much better (P.S: theres a couple areas where you can break boards from windows)
I've been binging your DS1 series, and have also been loving this DS2 episodes. It's rare to find a new Souls player in love with the lore like you are which I really appreciate. I've been having a tough go of it as of late so your DS1 series has helped me get through a tough time, so thanks for putting your experience out there! As for tips and a recommendation on where to go next, I'd say continue through either Grave of Saints or the Black Gulch. If you go through the Black Gulch make sure to read every message you see and look over ledges when you can. A good habit to make in DS2 is everytime you level up if you have leftover Souls just immediately spend them on Life Gems. Doing this will ensure you always have healing in case you use up your flasks. It's a nice quality of life tip that I did and I always keep max amount of Life Gems thanks to it, so I hope it'll help you keep some without running out anymore. Lastly for tips make sure you upgrade your preferred weapon when you can that way your damage output is still good against a wider amount enemies. Gavlans also one of the MVP's because he's the SOLE NPC you can sell stuff to. Plus he sells Poison Moss which is insanely clutch. The only thing I'll say about him is that he's no longer at No Man's Wharf and has instead moved to a new location now that you've spoke to him. Yeah though fun episode! I'm excited for when you get to the later portions of this game as well as the other Souls games. Hope you have a good week Wuggs 🙏🏻
I appreciate you letting me know you’re liking both series’ dude :) and if you ever wanna talk about anything please hit me up on discord 🙏 I’m down to chat whenever, seriously. And that life gem tip is so smart thank you!
-"The nature of your being has changed" In case you wanna know, make sure you're human, unequip all your armor, then you'll see -The torch hollow is friendly. You can lock on to him, but he's non-hostile and will follow you so you can use him as mobile light source. There are several hollows like him in the game -Pharros lockstone isn't always spawning secret doors, they can activate hidden mechanisms in some areas. In your case, the large bright lantern you lit in No Man's Wharf deters the long-armed black humanoid enemies, as they're scared of light, making large portion of the area easier to travese -You can light up your torches using flame butterfly in case you need to use it, but far away from bonfire. The same can also be done on any light sconces you already lit before. It's HIGHLY recommended to light any sconces you encounter, as it makes subsequent trip MUCH easier. In an area like The Gutter, it also serves as visual indicator on which place you already visited -That giant ant queen is actually friendly. She has no dialogue and can't be interacted with, but she dispenses gas that cures poison status, at the cost of degrading equipment durability. Most players just leave her alone As a general rule, unlike DS1, some friendlies can be locked on in DS2, even before they turn hostile. Some don't have dialogue, but offers beneficial effect. As such, only attack if they actively attacking you. If you can lock on someone, but they don't attack, chances are, they're friendly, non-hostile, or just being passive (hostile if disturbed)
Spoiler-free direction suggestion: I highly recommend you travel through the areas you have already “completed” without warping because things can change and you still haven’t 100% completed any area not even majula (although majula is complicated) Spoil-free reminders: 1: you met a cleric woman in heides tower who left her original area but you never found her again. (You pondered whether you would find her at majula but after not seeing her there you never looked for her any where else.) 2: there’s items you’ve missed in almost every area I had a 3rd reminder but I can’t remember what
3rd reminder: Get comfortable spending many souls at merchants (they might be grateful in some ways...) and also sell the crap from your inventory. You don't need 27 broken straight swords.
Thanks a lot for your amazing Dark Souls content. Highlight of the week! :) Will be exciting to see where you take your character build. Would love to see two-handed greatsword, or a big one-handed weapon plus a really sturdy greatshield or similar. Also, would maybe be fun to upgrade a simple bow a bit and get some arrows for long distance aggroing, etc. Can be really helpful! Thanks again!
You can use a Flame Butterfly to light the torch whenever needed. I use them to illuminate certain areas so I can keep track of where I've been. This video was fun and captures much of what DS2 is: you transition from a beloved area to one you dislike, and then back to another you love, lol. However, we also saw a few questionable design choices, such as the enemies with knives infused with dark magic, they have a black glow almost invisible in a dimly lit area like the gutter, you to lose health if you use the shield without even realizing it. This is kind of a jerk move. DS2 has quite a few of them lol Great video as always! The time passed really fast! It didn't feel like more than 2 hours
@43:44 In DS1, a Ring of Sacrifice will prevent you from losing your souls when you die, but it breaks and disappears from your inventory. In Dark Souls II, a Ring of Life Protection does the same thing, but after it breaks, it stays in your inventory and you can repair it at a blacksmith. It's expensive to repair though.
Oh wow a LOT happened this episode, so I thought I'd provide some explanations without spoilering anything you'll encounter later on. 6:00 The torch hollow is not a bug, but a friend! Took me a while to figure it out, but he'll follow you around the whole map, keeping away those who are afraid of the light! The pharo's lockstone and carrying a torch helps with the area as well. It is really satisfying lighting all scones which show your progress! Still, you did surprisingly well in no mans wharf, even without torches! 18:30 Notice when you get closer to her, she lowers her mask even more, hiding her face... Vitality & carry weight- super important. The less you weigh, the more stamina you regenerate and the better your roles get. I heavily recommend playing around with carry weight! Useless funfact: There is a bell just above the lever you pulled in order to ring said bell. If you shoot the bell you can also ring it! Pretty cool things for trading: a torch in dark places helps you find them, weird way 2:00:00 That bug is a little weird, but also a friend! She heals you when you are poisoned, never attacks you either because she does so out of the kindness of her heart or the devs running out of time. The game has a lot of strange interactions, so buying tools that seem very weird and unpractical at first, have a lot more value in the long run for these interactions.
Always worth the wait for these videos! Your ability to slow down and take it all in is what keeps me coming back and watching the whole episode like a movie. This game is full of unique mechanics and surprises that make it stand out amongst the FromSoft collection. I think that level of experimentality is what makes this game controversial, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Looking forward to see what you discover! (27:12) I prefer watching somebody think before they act, which results in less deaths. However, there is a specific type of comedy that comes from players who sprint through an entire area and get stuck in a mob of enemies.
Wait, you beat No-man's Wharf first try in one go? That was amazing! I think it's one of the hardest early game areas, first-time players usually die a lot there. That Drangleic Shield helped a lot I guess. And btw, that bridge shortcut was not there in vanilla DS2, making this area even harder.
I'm putting my vote in for Lost Bastille. Also as a loose general rule, the bonfires are listed in order for good general progression when you're looking at the teleport menu if you ever get confused where to go next.
Lots of progress this episode! Did not expect you to get through the gutter considering you started in no man’s wharf lmao Absolutely hilarious that you went through some of the darkest areas of the game and didn’t use a torch a single time 😂 Wuggs: complains for several minutes about the gutter being dark->picks up torch-> “oh I should use a torch” -> proceeds to never use a torch 😂 In my playthrough I was lighting up torches left and right in both no man’s wharf and the gutter, I was going crazy because of how dark those areas were otherwise 😂 Also I absolutely died to your reaction of both killing the torch hollow and the beetle. To ease your soul, don’t worry, there wasn’t any dialogue or anything like that, the beetle is simply friendly and cures your poison 👍🏻
@wuggernaut a few things I forgot to mention: In no man’s wharf, the note about the nasty big black monsters having weakness fire - well I don’t know if they take more dmg from fire sources - but they are literally afraid of fire. If you hold a torch they shy away from you and seeks the shadows - pretty cool mechanic and another reward for using torches 😉 I’m replaying DS2 and I remembered the gutter as the most awful zone ever. But when replaying it, and going for lighting the sconces I think the area was actually super fun and well designed. Probably one of the most enjoyable zones before DLC on my replay! There’s a lot of goodies to be found there, so I definitely recommend you put it on the list of areas to revisit in the future! Oh and also, when you’re running low on flasks, you might consider equipping the ring that gives you passive health regeneration instead of burning through all of your life gems - but up to you, of course 😆
Long part, fun to watch and lots to comment on :D 1. "Gavlan wheel, Gavlan deal" is just a phrase. Basically, he likes trading, this is all he says. 2. The coffin which changed your body is just switching the Gender of your character. You are currently playing a female character. Getting in it again is changing it back to male. 3. The Pharros Lockstone in Nomans Wharf indeed only lights up the area. I think it would be more useful if the player actually gets a Pharros Lockstone shortly before, but the light can help with those creatures which were in Nomans Wharf. Because they hate light and you will not really have to fight them if it is not dark there. I THINK this is also the purpose of this torch-wielding guy who is not hostile. I guess he is a little help for that area. 4. Speaking of non-hostile enemies - the giant Ant you killed was not an NPC, she was just a non-hostile enemy. In fact, she cures poison, but her gas also lowers your equipment durability. But it is not a big deal that you defeated her, you are not missing out on anything. Players just like to write things like "Dont you dare" or "friend ahead" for non-hostile enemies. 5. Regarding the Torch - you can light it at the Bonfire, on already lit torches standing around and with Flame Butterflies. You have found at least one (but did not read it), they allow you to lit the torch when not near a Bonfire. Lighting the Torches in the Gutter makes it a lot better and actually bearable to play, but the area is also not great when lit up. Just if you want to explore there, using the Torch and lightning up the area makes it better. 6. You still have a Bone Dust to burn :) 7. I am happy that you dont want to summon for the DLCs. They really step it up a bit when it comes to bosses, but the Maingame also has some nice bosses.
Omggg I completely forgot about the bone dust thing!!! Also thank you for the other comments as well :) hopefully I can figure out the right bosses to not summon for in the main game too 😅😬
Lighting the torches in The Gutter was one of my favorite parts of this game, and you definitely left treasures in there. Next episode, PLEASE light up the Gutter, and then you can pretty much forget about torches for the rest of the game. But I think you will really enjoy doing that.
No-man's Warf is one of my favorite areas as well, though I'm amazed you did the whole thing in one shot in the dark! I figured the vampires would rip you to shreds! That Drangleic gear came in pretty clutch.
Loving how much you're loving the game so far! Although I see you've found The Gutter so perhaps that's going to change . No notes for where to go next, to me the best part of these games is running around trying to figure that out for yourself! Can't wait to see where you end up.
1:10:40 for superhappyfuntime Wuggs, can't tell if you did or not, but: anytime you're in a grab attack, by ANY enemy in a souls game, pound the shoulder buttons back and forth like you're struggling to get out. You'll break free a little sooner and take ~20% less damage. That sequence was hella fun to watch, so much happened. You evolved as a player when you put your shield down against the Pursuer to focus on dodging and conserving stamina, but you could have also two-handed your weapon to up your damage. You're going to need those fast moves for DS3.
"This has already been a wild episode." [Pursuer appears before the sentence is even finished] "Now if I fall I don't think I'm getting these these souls back...nooo....why do I speak...aw man I love this game." 😂
I also enjoy No Mans Wharf and the more environmental focused levels of DS2. you could've lit all the torches around that and the Gutter and they stay lit permanently. the Flame Butterfly is a consumable that will light a torch without a bonfire. very handy! not sure if you recognized the name Carhillion, but that's Rosabeth's teacher. if you use a soul vessel to change your INT stat you can get him to move to Majula, but you would need 2 so you can change back. & finish the Black Gulch first, just make sure to find a familiar NPC to summon for the boss there. Good luck!
“The nature of your being has changed.” - it didn’t used to say that originally, so people didn’t notice it immediately and when they did later realise the couldn’t understand it and complained the game had glitched and “ruined” their character 😂 Souls players love to complain and moan. It is not The Pursuer, it is A Pursuer. The only good thing about the Scholar edition is that it fixed a lot of the awful translations in the English language version. “The Pursuer” is one translation error they forgot to fix. You could have fallen down the hole safely by removing all your armour and gently stepping over the edge.
You got so many good weapons in this episode. Also, this is the only Fromsoft game where bare fists are actually decent. They scale with strength. There's also a ring you can get to make them a lot better. Plus, there are several fist weapons that are really cool
So for NPC questlines in this game, they must be summoned to vanquish at least 3 bosses and then be found afterwards in respective locations. Unlike with Dark Souls 1, if an NPC dies during a boss fight, it will not count towards progressing their questline so be sure to proc aggro on bosses often if you plan on doing Lucatiels quest because she has a habit of stealing aggro and dying really fast Edit 1; curse in this game doesn’t kill you, instead it stacks hollowing. Being cursed turns you hollow without killing you but each new stack of curse will lower your health bar by 1 hollowing tier as if you were to die. Edit 2; the infamous “transgender coffin” simply changes your character into the opposite sex
Finally caught up, I am so happy to watch you explore my favourite dark souls, lorewise. I hope you'll experiment more with different weapons in DS2, there are some real fun ones out there waiting for you. Keep up the good work buddy!
Ooo this is a good reminder thank you! I get so stuck in my way with weapons, this is definitely something I can work on, and thanks for watching the ds1 series!
@@Wuggernaut I know its tempting to stick to an upgraded weapon, but you get enough upgrade materials in DS2 to try a few different ones. I really appreciate how you interact with suggestions from the community, it just feels like youre playing with us, and not "for" us. 😄
Loving your content! Been watching since DS1 (on telly through PS4, so cannot leave comments). When you tackled the Hydra in the 2nd/3rd episode, I knew you would be worth watching! I loved DS2. I know it has a bad reputation but it introduced a lot of quality of life innovations: respeccing whenever you want pretty much, power stance, etc. I never leveled ADP in any of my playthroughs! Meant I had to play slower and more methodical, I guess. Re this episode: excellent as always. Plenty of very funny deaths! We've all been there, and that's what makes it so funny. 'Wheel and deal' is an English (UK) expression which means buy and sell. Where you should go next? Up to you. You have: bonfire just after you rescued Rosabeth, Lost Bastille, Black Gulch, going through the Gutter again maybe lighting the torches as you go (I think there's a mechanic where if you light all the torches in an area, it'll trigger an event), or the bonfire halfway down the big hole. Maybe you could think of 2 handing the greatsword. Try ditching the shield to keep your weight down and you can block when you 2 hand the greatsword. Oh! Bit of a cryptic question: why is your character moving like a girl now?
Ayeye that’s awesome dude! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed everything so far 🤩 and I actually wasn’t even aware of all the areas I had available so far so I appreciate the breakdown! Also 👀👀👀
Ahhh the gutter. The lovely unlit gutter. "I don't wanna, but I gutter." My first gutter run, I also didn't know to light the way. I made a last gasp dash for the second bonfire and died of poisoning just as I was reaching out my desperate hand towards it, maybe six feet away from it. But it's the worst parts you remember most fondly.
First, I'm fairly certain your supposed to use a torch going through the gutter. Helps a lot imo to remember that you can use torches. Second, the torch hollow in No Man's Wharf and the Ant Queen in the Gutter are "friends" but not NPCs and don't talk. The torch hollow is "hostile" but has no attacks, it just follows you while carrying a torch. The Ant Queen produces special mist. It does mild durability damage to your equipment, but also rapidly cures poison. (read more for what the sarcophagus does) I see you found the special gender-change sarcophagus.
You can light your torch at a bonfire and you can use your torch to light those sconges around the area to light up the place and increase your lock on distance. Those Dark Stalker enemies are afraid of the lights. That said the Sailors also throw oil at you and fire damage or lit torch would have caused an explosion and big damage to you. Torch time is limited, those friendly torch hollows have a good chance to drop them. They also respawn 12 times as usual. Bleeding is very weak in DS2: 200 flat dmg, reduced max stamina for a short while, and slower walking. Dark Souls 2 poison is very strong in DS2: 1-1.1k hp dmg over 20 seconds. Poison Jars are kinda common and can also poison enemies. Going into water will wash of poison. Crafting materials are MUCH more common in DS2 than in DS1 or DS3 so you can upgrade more liberally.
Great Video as always I would recommend using the ring of binding so you dont have to use so many human effigies, might need some later Also you already have an Item with which you can light your torches on the go if needed
Given the frequency which you've been using the fire longsword, you might as well upgrade the thing as it will probably continue to be useful. If you wanted to use the Greatsword, then you might look into the very light but surprisingly effective Brigand armor set you picked up... it's a great set to combo with a "heavy weapon" - of course, then you wouldn't be able to take nearly as many hits, but everything is a trade-off. As to where to go next, that's entirely on you. That said, you might try taking that tunnel between Majula and Heide again... you might find something interesting (something I almost missed out on during my first playthrough, much to my detriment).
Ooo thank you for the advice, idk why I didn’t think of switching my armour to balance out the weight 🤦♂️ I want to try out different weapons this game so this is good to keep in mind 🙏🙏
Wuggs in the original dark souls 2 Gavlan was in the upstairs of that building with the long armed monsters that break the wall down. He would’ve been standing in the corner of the room. So that “fatty ahead” message you were questioning, is actually a shoutout from the OG dark souls 2 players pointing out that our homey Gavlan used to be in a much more dangerous place before being moved for this remaster 😅
You should do Lost Bastille, and then there's other bunch of areas that you should do before the gutter but that's just because the enemies there are tougher, but if you feel comfortable doing it then it's fine. It doesn't really matter the order in which you do the first major areas in the base game
30:10 Regarding stats (no spoilers). Ds2 actually halves str requirements for two handing a weapon, while the other games actually require you to have 2/3 of the str stat. Example in ds2: Youu can wield a weapon that requires 20 str and 10 dex if you two hand it with 10 str and 10 dex (dex stays the same and str doubles). Example in other games: You can wield a weapon that requires 24 Str and 10 Dex if you two hand it with 16 Str and 10 Dex (16 + 50% = 24 str and dex stays the same). Like the zweihander in ds 1 (different requirements in each game).
Hell yeah! Time to start my favorite after-work ritual on Tuesday: grab a beer, chicken wings and watch Wuggs (probably?) being obliterated in a Souls-game ❤
@Wuggernaut Just finished the last 10 minutes of the episode and was not disappointed ❤ As always, a few spoiler-free hints from my side: - As you discovered, Pharros Lockstones can have different effects. But maybe there are not enough stones in the game to fill all possible holes? (Giggidy.) - Torches will be your absolute best friends in the Gutter and Black Gulch. - Got some hundreds of souls to spare after leveling in Majula? Maybe just spend them at the merchants or Blacksmith for materials, arrows, armor etc. Some of them will be quite happy about the patronage... - Your torch-wielding buddy in No Man's Wharf is actually a walking torch (useful if you didn't light up the area) and can scare the Darkstalkers (since they are afraid of 🔥). - Never forget about the illusory walls in the game. Most will open by pressing the 'interact' button (instead of hitting them like in DS1). Maybe there was one in the Wharf? I don't know. I've definitely NEVER played the game before...
Gutter and Black Gultch is basically Blighttown. I recommend at least a+6 weapon. Those Tar monsters can also drop good upgrade mats. Fire can ignite the oil and fire barrels.......and the game has fire arrows. You can light your torch at the bonfire or use the butterfly and then light up any area sconge so the area has more visibility. Most DS2 areas have plenty of places you can light up. I recommend completing Lost Bastille fully. And if you look around you can find an optional area there with a slightly tweaked DS1 enemy at its end.... Pursuers are sub-bosses. They despawn if you move out of their arena. Likely save and load or bonfire rest will reset them. They do not respawn once killed. A fire sword is a very bad weapon against enemies in water. Lighting is better. As durability is a thing in DS2 good idea to have a secondary weapon. Strike dmg weapons are good against armored enemies and they are kinda common. Lost Bastille has a good strike dmg weapon.
I put on the Greatsword at this point and basically never looked back. It does hit very hard for how quickly it swings. It messes up the lock-on function though.
Wuggs, don’t worry! That wasn’t an NPC. He’s just a non-aggressive torch hollow that will follow you around with a torch for light. Helps if you don’t want to use a slot for a torch.
Dude tysm 🥹 I missed you guys too, I felt less while last week not being able to see your guys’ reaction to a new vid, I’m making some changes to make sure that doesn’t happen often 🙏🙏
I just got to the end of the video, you should go to the Lost Bastille next...You were suppose to go there before or after No Man's Warf...It's a fun area!
Torches Wuggs! They improve the visuals, and in a land consumed by darkness, it is only natural that some residents fear the light. (You are, in fact, not dying enough. If you had died, you could have seen that the torch hollow revives. What can I say, you are too good at the game \[T]/) I'm also glad you're using summons! There are some areas that I feel were designed to be traversed with summons, not just the boss fights. Look out for large, closely grouped gank squads as your sign to gank them back! They will occasionally go out of their way to aggro enemies, but be grateful for their support! They are also good to use for areas you have already been to before. If you choose to summon for an area, you have a Black Separation Crystal in your inventory that you can use indefinitely. You can use it to dismiss the summon before a boss fight, if you want to do the boss fight alone.
Wuggs i recommend using pyromancy flame as it doesn't weight any thing and has alot of utility breaking stuff and some range You can use it on the same hand as your main weapon and swap between them all the while having the shield It doesn't require faith or int...
Great episode wuggs...but sometimes you need to slow down and look around before charging forward...you nearly missed the bf in black gulch...you've missed a whole array of hidden walls...and areas 😂😂😂 i love it but raises my anxiety levels when you plod on ignoring your surroundings😅
I knoooow 😅🤦♂️ honestly this is something I’m gonna work in, all jokes aside. As I go through each of these games I hope to improve my exploration and slow-downability (🤣) more and more 🙏
Yo btw, love the vids just thought I’d tell you about the wierd coffin In the things betwixed. It changes (….something….) try removing that big bulky armor and prepare to be surprised 😱 Anyways it has no real effect on gameplay, keep up the vids love them❤
generaly for the weapon i would recomebd trying them cause one may have less damage but the moveset could be better or the range so don't count on just the stat , also scaling at higher lecels will be a huge difference
27:52 most of the messages in this version of the game (Scholar of the first sin) are for players who played at the vanilla version, since there was a huge different... the fatty is the man you heard drinking earlier
Ahoy wugs! No-man's Wharf might be mi favorite DS2 level even though it can really suck (I remember HATING it while I was playing through it, ajd then loving it after I finished the game lol) . Idk what it is, but the atmosphere is just unparalleled.
Her name is not Lusatiel, it’s Lucatiel and she’s my favourite NPC from any game I ever played. You don’t pay enough attention to your surroundings. You did well getting through the Wharf. It can be tough, especially if you don’t realise bleeding reduces your stamina.
Torches. We have the technology. 🔥
Never heard of it apparently 😂
Torch Hollow 2014-2024 - May he Temporarily Rest In Peace
😔
Gavlan doesn't want a wheel. "Wheeling and dealing" is just a saying.
Haha yes came to say the same, that part made me giggle hehe. “wheeling and dealing” means like in the act of business to sell stuff and make deals and the like.
LOL almost gave myself another Need Ring cause I’m not hip with the lingo 🫠
It's a common figure of speech to describe the act of haggling over price while trading with a merchant (Gavlaan)
"Wheeling and dealing".
GAVLAN WHEEL. GAVLAN DEAL, HAH HAH HAH HAH!
LOL damn it now I gotta do it 😂
You are missing out at the amazing light effects by lighting scones with the torch. This also activates secrets like if you light all the scones in the tutorial area. The warf and the gutter look amazing fully lit.
I definitely have to start doing this 🙏 especially now knowing there’s secrets 👀👀👀
Just finished the DS1 series and im absolutly loving the DS2 playthrough so far, the long video format is so refreshing.
Keep it up!
Thank you dude! I will 🤩
Oh man the Gutter portion was kind of a frustrating watch . Just have to slow down once in a while and think "what am I missing here?"
Another fun episode though, and I'm loving the marathon lengths! Can't wait to see where you end up next week.
Yeah I got a tongue lashing from a few folks… but I definitely hear you on the slow down and ask what I’m missing 🙏 live and learn lol
Nobody ever lights up No Man's Wharf :(
It's my favorite part of the area lol
In this game, you don't open illusionary walls by hitting them; in fact, hitting walls will wear out your weapon.
I keep forgetting this 😩 old habit die hard lol, thanks for the reminder 🙏🙏
@@Wuggernaut there are breakable walls, but it's usually visible, that's something is off
Since you're already past it, Torch bro wasn't an NPC, he's a none hostile "trap".
Can be used to kinda help walk around without using your own torch, but his primary purpose is to follow you around and get hit with one of the oil bombs that are being thrown at you which causes a big explosion (obviously) which if hes following close enough behind and you're getting ganked or arent completely healed, it'll probably kill you too.

appreciate the count sir
Waiting for the gravity to catch up to the enemies
Appreciate you as always 🙏🙏🙏🙏 and totally agree with the best death 😂
@@Wuggernaut i had a lot of options to choose from
The way that Wugg hasn't realised the death scream of his character that denotes "the nature change", time after time, amuses me so much! >.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
tbf, it is still pretty low on that variation
Damn thank you! I need to light some scones 👀
Those things all over the gutter with the small pile of bones on top of them are actually torches that you can light...If you use your torch and light them as you go it makes navigating much easier! They stay lit when you die so you can see where you have been, plus it makes it easier to see...
the visions of fatty message at 27:50 is a reference to gavlan's location in the the orgininal Dark souls 2 game.
Gotcha! Ty for letting me know 🙏🙏
There's only two NPCs that actually have questlines that require summoning. I don't want to spoil which ones unless he asks (but someone probably already has)
Dude, there's no shame in not understanding the nature of your being. You do you, but do it with a torch.
LOL true 😂
fully agree! after all, for some people it takes most of their life to figure it out!
Bruh so true
The Gutter and the Gultch; two of the most polarizing areas in DS2 and you arrived at them in one video, which as always was fantastic
When it comes to the areas of DS 2 you need to see them as chapters and these chapters also have sub-chapters that lead to a conclusion.
Thank you so much 🥹 and I’ll keep the chapters and sub chapters thing in mind 👀👀
darkness affects your lock on range, using torches or lighting up other things will make your lock on much better
(P.S: theres a couple areas where you can break boards from windows)
1:12:35 - ah yes, the Teletubbies from hell
Also - Wuggs, you not using a torch in some of these areas is so painful to watch
Also also - I vote for Lost Bastille next :)
I’m sorry I never do it for some reason 😂 and teletubbies from hell
-"The nature of your being has changed"
In case you wanna know, make sure you're human, unequip all your armor, then you'll see
-The torch hollow is friendly. You can lock on to him, but he's non-hostile and will follow you so you can use him as mobile light source. There are several hollows like him in the game
-Pharros lockstone isn't always spawning secret doors, they can activate hidden mechanisms in some areas. In your case, the large bright lantern you lit in No Man's Wharf deters the long-armed black humanoid enemies, as they're scared of light, making large portion of the area easier to travese
-You can light up your torches using flame butterfly in case you need to use it, but far away from bonfire. The same can also be done on any light sconces you already lit before. It's HIGHLY recommended to light any sconces you encounter, as it makes subsequent trip MUCH easier. In an area like The Gutter, it also serves as visual indicator on which place you already visited
-That giant ant queen is actually friendly. She has no dialogue and can't be interacted with, but she dispenses gas that cures poison status, at the cost of degrading equipment durability. Most players just leave her alone
As a general rule, unlike DS1, some friendlies can be locked on in DS2, even before they turn hostile. Some don't have dialogue, but offers beneficial effect. As such, only attack if they actively attacking you. If you can lock on someone, but they don't attack, chances are, they're friendly, non-hostile, or just being passive (hostile if disturbed)
Thank you for all these tips! And that’s a great rule of thumb for hostiles and non hostiles moving forward thank you so much 🙏
Spoiler-free direction suggestion: I highly recommend you travel through the areas you have already “completed” without warping because things can change and you still haven’t 100% completed any area not even majula (although majula is complicated)
Spoil-free reminders:
1: you met a cleric woman in heides tower who left her original area but you never found her again. (You pondered whether you would find her at majula but after not seeing her there you never looked for her any where else.)
2: there’s items you’ve missed in almost every area
I had a 3rd reminder but I can’t remember what
Ooh that’s a good point! Run backs are coming early this series!
👀👀👀 I appreciate this!!
DS2 has quite a few of them lol
Great video as always! The time passed really fast! It didn't feel like more than 2 hours
I appreciate that! And thank you for the flame butterfly tip!!
Pretty cool things for trading: a torch in dark places helps you find them, weird way
2:00:00 That bug is a little weird, but also a friend! She heals you when you are poisoned, never attacks you either because she does so out of the kindness of her heart or the devs running out of time. The game has a lot of strange interactions, so buying tools that seem very weird and unpractical at first, have a lot more value in the long run for these interactions.
Thank you for all these! The Lucatiel bit is such a nice little detail
Thank you dude!!! And this is a good reminder to slow down even more while continuing this game, thank you 🙏
Wait, you beat No-man's Wharf first try in one go? That was amazing! I think it's one of the hardest early game areas, first-time players usually die a lot there. That Drangleic Shield helped a lot I guess. And btw, that bridge shortcut was not there in vanilla DS2, making this area even harder.
Oh dang! And absolutely the shield is doing so much for me 😅
I'm putting my vote in for Lost Bastille. Also as a loose general rule, the bonfires are listed in order for good general progression when you're looking at the teleport menu if you ever get confused where to go next.
Oh damn thank you!
Lots of progress this episode! Did not expect you to get through the gutter considering you started in no man’s wharf lmao
Absolutely hilarious that you went through some of the darkest areas of the game and didn’t use a torch a single time 😂
Wuggs: complains for several minutes about the gutter being dark->picks up torch-> “oh I should use a torch” -> proceeds to never use a torch 😂
In my playthrough I was lighting up torches left and right in both no man’s wharf and the gutter, I was going crazy because of how dark those areas were otherwise 😂
Also I absolutely died to your reaction of both killing the torch hollow and the beetle. To ease your soul, don’t worry, there wasn’t any dialogue or anything like that, the beetle is simply friendly and cures your poison 👍🏻
Hahah dude I don’t know what’s wrong with my brain 😂 I NEED to use torches next ep! And ty dude I was pretty worried about the big girl 🙏🙏🙏
@wuggernaut
a few things I forgot to mention:
In no man’s wharf, the note about the nasty big black monsters having weakness fire - well I don’t know if they take more dmg from fire sources - but they are literally afraid of fire. If you hold a torch they shy away from you and seeks the shadows - pretty cool mechanic and another reward for using torches 😉
I’m replaying DS2 and I remembered the gutter as the most awful zone ever.
1:12:41 looks like those scenes from an adventure movie
Heck yeah! I did feel a little like Indiana Jones 😅
Long part, fun to watch and lots to comment on :D
6. You still have a Bone Dust to burn :)
7. I am happy that you dont want to summon for the DLCs. They really step it up a bit when it comes to bosses, but the Maingame also has some nice bosses.
Omggg I completely forgot about the bone dust thing!!! Also thank you for the other comments as well :) hopefully I can figure out the right bosses to not summon for in the main game too 😅😬
Amazing, I'm away on holiday this week til saturday, but it gives me time during some travelling to watch this all in one go. Take care Wuggs!
ayyye nice! cheers dude
Lighting the torches in The Gutter was one of my favorite parts of this game, and you definitely left treasures in there. Next episode, PLEASE light up the Gutter, and then you can pretty much forget about torches for the rest of the game. But I think you will really enjoy doing that.
👀
No-man's Warf is one of my favorite areas as well, though I'm amazed you did the whole thing in one shot in the dark! I figured the vampires would rip you to shreds! That Drangleic gear came in pretty clutch.
100%, I’m glad I went back for it in FotFG 🤩
Loving how much you're loving the game so far! Although I see you've found The Gutter so perhaps that's going to change .
No notes for where to go next, to me the best part of these games is running around trying to figure that out for yourself! Can't wait to see where you end up.
That’s fair 😅🙏 and omg the gutter… 💀
Ultra greatsword was my jam when I first played!
24:47 lots of players give her the desert pyromancer set, but it's a different set from the one you have and it's for a totally different reason 😂
👀👀👀
1:10:40 for superhappyfuntime
Wuggs, can't tell if you did or not, but: anytime you're in a grab attack, by ANY enemy in a souls game, pound the shoulder buttons back and forth like you're struggling to get out.
Ahhh yes good point 🤦♂️ understood, thank you!
"This has already been a wild episode." [Pursuer appears before the sentence is even finished]
"Now if I fall I don't think I'm getting these these souls back...nooo....why do I speak...aw man I love this game." 😂
You could have fallen down the hole safely by removing all your armour and gently stepping over the edge.
ahhh that's good to know about the pursuer thank you!
You got so many good weapons in this episode. Also, this is the only Fromsoft game where bare fists are actually decent. They scale with strength. There's also a ring you can get to make them a lot better. Plus, there are several fist weapons that are really cool
Oh nice! That’s why that backstab wasn’t too shabby 😅
So for NPC questlines in this game, they must be summoned to vanquish at least 3 bosses and then be found afterwards in respective locations. Unlike with Dark Souls 1, if an NPC dies during a boss fight, it will not count towards progressing their questline so be sure to proc aggro on bosses often if you plan on doing Lucatiels quest because she has a habit of stealing aggro and dying really fast
Edit 1; curse in this game doesn’t kill you, instead it stacks hollowing. Being cursed turns you hollow without killing you but each new stack of curse will lower your health bar by 1 hollowing tier as if you were to die.
Edit 2; the infamous “transgender coffin” simply changes your character into the opposite sex
Ohhhhh I see
Finally caught up, I am so happy to watch you explore my favourite dark souls, lorewise.
@EvilOesi true! I want to make a point to experiment with weapons this playthrough, thank you for the reminder 🙏 and that’s awesome! I agree 🤩
Using ascetic can reset the entire area, if you've ki//ed any NPC.
But the area becomes little harder.🎉

Wugg: “I cannot find any fire”
Also wugg around 17:52 : “the next bonFIRE we find…”
How can you not know by now?!?!
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
such a good area. if you light all the sconces in the gutter a surprise is at the bottom. dont give up skeleton!
Oh damn!! Fuuuuuudge now I gotta go back 😩
Blighttown 2.0 welcome back
Loving your content!
Also 👀👀👀
Your videos are just in another level! Loving them and your playthrough!
Thank you so much! These are the comments that motivate me to improv with each video 🥹
Ahhh the gutter. The lovely unlit gutter. "I don't wanna, but I gutter."
My first gutter run, I also didn't know to light the way. I made a last gasp dash for the second bonfire and died of poisoning just as I was reaching out my desperate hand towards it, maybe six feet away from it. But it's the worst parts you remember most fondly.
Cheers to that 🍻
First, I'm fairly certain your supposed to use a torch going through the gutter.
(read more for what the sarcophagus does)
I see you found the special gender-change sarcophagus.
Ahhh this is such a relief thank you 🙏 by the end I found out about the torch hollow but the ant queen had me worried
Now don't tell me the worfe and the poison gutter . What fun!
"They look scary as fuck but- AHHH! Jesus Christ!" - Wuggs 2024
So glad you found the greatsword, it's legitimately one of my favorite weapons
Hahaha 😅 also I’m gonna use the heck outta that greats word once I can handle more weight!
"The nature of your being has changed." Lol. You'll figure it out... eventually.
1:15:32 living true to his name, The Pursuer endlessly follows the chosen undead with a passion...
. . .
for about 15 feet 😅
🤣🤣🤣 BIG contender for underrated comment of the week 😂
Great Video as always
I would recommend using the ring of binding so you dont have to use so many human effigies, might need some later
Also you already have an Item with which you can light your torches on the go if needed
😮!!!! I had no idea! Ty!
Loved this episode. Hint. - You can find the wheel in Elden Ring. 🤣
👀👀👀😅
I think there's an item you got that you missed reading on: the Flame Butterfly
Wuggs in the original dark souls 2 Gavlan was in the upstairs of that building with the long armed monsters that break the wall down. He would’ve been standing in the corner of the room. So that “fatty ahead” message you were questioning, is actually a shoutout from the OG dark souls 2 players pointing out that our homey Gavlan used to be in a much more dangerous place before being moved for this remaster 😅
You didn’t fill the poison meter up enough to get poisoned…
That’s so cool! Thank you for letting me know :)
I found myself screaming too many times "Use. Your. Torch!"... sorry, the tension is real.
It’s valid 🤣😅
just a reminder you haven’t talked with blacksmith in majula he have good dialogues if you talk to him.
Oh damn my bad!!
Ahhhh, thank you for the clarification 🙏🙏
You should explore the Lost Bastille, and oh, check out the path towards Heide from Majula, you'll find something different now.
Ooooo 👀👀
Don't worry the ''Npc'' you killed at the beginning is just a random hollow, he just isn't hostile and will follow you around the area.
if you light all the torches in the gutter, you unluck a secret npc to fight and it help you know where you had been
the area is really pretty when everything is light up
@@erikemond4203that’s hard to believe… now I have to.
Ant queen in the cave wasnt an npc either. Just a non hostile whos fumes cure poison while bringing down your durability i believe
I got syked out twice this video 😬
Hell yeah! Time to start my favorite after-work ritual on Tuesday: grab a beer, chicken wings and watch Wuggs (probably?) being obliterated in a Souls-game ❤
Hahaah dude that is so awesome 🙏🙏🙏
@Wuggernaut Just finished the last 10 minutes of the episode and was not disappointed ❤
As always, a few spoiler-free hints from my side:
- As you discovered, Pharros Lockstones can have different effects. But maybe there are not enough stones in the game to fill all possible holes? (Giggidy.)
- Torches will be your absolute best friends in the Gutter and Black Gulch.
@docdehli hahah I appreciate these tips dude! I recorded ep 5, so I’ll have to wait to apply SOME of these next time 👀
Gutter and Black Gultch is basically Blighttown.
I appreciate all the info :)
Lucatiel is the shit. Summon her and make sure she doesn't die.
You got it
Wuggs when he kills an npc 😎👍. Wuggs when he kills a harmless torch hollow 😫🤲.
LOL 😂😂😂
I put on the Greatsword at this point and basically never looked back. It does hit very hard for how quickly it swings. It messes up the lock-on function though.
Ohhhh interesting 👀 and I agree, I’ll probably switch and soon as it’s less that 100% weight, and when I can one hand it it’s all over 😤
Here we GOOOOOO! Part 4!
Wuggs, don’t worry! That wasn’t an NPC. He’s just a non-aggressive torch hollow that will follow you around with a torch for light. Helps if you don’t want to use a slot for a torch.
I have Engyi PTSD! 😅 also idk if I mentioned it on stream but congrats on the blue head Ashley and tysm for the support!!
“Is your name wheel?” 😂😂😂 you crack me up😂😂😂 missed you buddy
What can I say, you are too good at the game \[T]/)
I'm also glad you're using summons!
Ooooh that’s good to know thank you!
Wuggs i recommend using pyromancy flame as it doesn't weight any thing and has alot of utility breaking stuff and some range
You can use it on the same hand as your main weapon and swap between them all the while having the shield
It doesn't require faith or int...
Damn I never used this in ds1! I think it’s time!!!
I feel like the pirate ship by the cave entrance was inspired by the Goonies
Yoooo true! It definitely has that feel now that you mention it
Great episode wuggs...but sometimes you need to slow down and look around before charging forward...you nearly missed the bf in black gulch...you've missed a whole array of hidden walls...and areas 😂😂😂 i love it but raises my anxiety levels when you plod on ignoring your surroundings😅
It changes (….something….) try removing that big bulky armor and prepare to be surprised 😱 Anyways it has no real effect on gameplay, keep up the vids love them❤
Aw I thought it would've been fun to see him discover that for himself later D:
@ ah sorry😭 yeah that would’ve been awesome.
@@YumiTheCrow changed it abit😉 lmk if it needs more changing.✌️
First 8 min alone is awesome :D
Ayeye thank you dude 🥲
"I feel like I've learned nothing." Based on this episode, that's a fair assessment. As Huey Lewis said: Sometimes, bad is bad.
🫠🫠🫠
generaly for the weapon i would recomebd trying them cause one may have less damage but the moveset could be better or the range so don't count on just the stat , also scaling at higher lecels will be a huge difference
Thank you for bringing this up, that’s a good point 🙏
27:52 most of the messages in this version of the game (Scholar of the first sin) are for players who played at the vanilla version, since there was a huge different... the fatty is the man you heard drinking earlier
Ahhhh interesting 🙏 I’ll keep that in mind moving forward thanks bin
does anyone think he'll learn to toggle at the bonfire?
Yeah I hated the Gutter too until I turned it into a torch mini game
I so should’ve done this 🤦♂️😅
in ds2, its 50% less strenght when you hold it with 2 hands, the greatsword only required 14 strenght to hold it with 2 hands
Good to know, Ty!
Wow, lotta great exploration in this part!
Thanks dude!
Ahoy wugs!
No-man's Wharf might be mi favorite DS2 level even though it can really suck (I remember HATING it while I was playing through it, ajd then loving it after I finished the game lol) . Idk what it is, but the atmosphere is just unparalleled.
I totally agree! The idea of all the guys shacked up in the shacks by the port waiting for their next voyage is so cool!
@Wuggernaut absolutely, and the pirate ship in the distance is just 😗👌🏻
Her name is not Lusatiel, it’s Lucatiel and she’s my favourite NPC from any game I ever played.
You don’t pay enough attention to your surroundings.
You did well getting through the Wharf. It can be tough, especially if you don’t realise bleeding reduces your stamina.
I agree with you there, and thank you!
Hi Wuggs! I will say these time stamps may look fun, but hide secrets. Maybe another walk around the wharf is in order?
40:04
42:24
👀👀👀 appreciate this!
1:29 A warm welcome
Was it ever 😂
DS2 Tuesday let's goooooo
