The only major issue with staves being equipped weapons was how absolute shit they were as weapons especially when they're only usable on classes with notoriously awful Str to begin with. I'm not saying they all need to hit like Urvan, but there were definitely ways to make them... not _optimal,_ but at least somewhat _viable._ Could've introduced a new Priest-like class line of units: Monk, Guardian, Crusader. Staff -> Staff/Axe -> Staff/Axe/Lance. Not as slow and physically weak as the Priest line, but less magically powerful and can only SS rank Staves with Axes and Lances capping at A rank. Combine that with good staves having powerful secondary effects like stat buffs on equip, damage reduction, status chance, passive recovery, attack mitigation, and/or passive allied support ranges, and you'd have a solid unit with good reason to go out on the front line with a bonk stick to do the lord's work.

I love that in Radiant Dawn, you can basically pick your super soldier and they become insane just based on the amount you dump into them, I saw a video of a dude's "main" being Meg, anything is possible with friendship and hardcore drugs
