Flower Farm + Boutique Florist Shop in Strathroy, ON, Canada.
Hi! I'm Brittany and this is Green Bee Floral Co - a flower farm and florist studio in Strathroy, ON. Canada. We - my husband, Nick, and our amazing Flower Team - are learning and growing in Canadian Hardiness Zone 6b (though, verging on 6a!).
We've been small scale flower farming since 2019, and recently took the plunge to rent our very own acre of land just outside of our small town. As of 2024, we have moved our 2 acre flower farm to one location - the Olde Drive plot.
You'll find everything here from farming, to floral design, to our daily life.

I love the music you select and I love your smile. Will you sell and ship your tubers to the US? Do you cut and quick dip your stems before they go into the farm cooler or before they go into the shop cooler? once you put them in bigger containers with the hydrating solution do you leave them in that solution until point of sale? What is your preferred brand of hydrator? Do you have to change the water once or twice during the 5 days of storage? Do you use CVBN tabs as some growers recommend? So no flower food in the storage phase? What temperature do you store them at? Floret recommends hydrator in the harvest bucket but then I don't know if she leaves them in the hydrator and if so for how long? I am confused by all the different instructions and I really want to get the best vase life for my customers. You have figured out a method that keeps your dahlias looking like just picked. Some of the varieties do fade rapidly in the vase...so I understand now the importance of narrowing down those grown to the best all around performers as you have done. I am happy for your success and you will no doubt be even more successful in years to come.
Will the rest of the buds open on Lisianthus after it’s been cut?
Thanks Green Bee - another great video. I’m having trouble with chipmunks, rabbits and wild turkeys in my vegetable garden. What is the fencing you are using? How do you put it up? Do you bury it in the ground? Any info would be appreciated.

Any chance you would be selling tubers of rubber ducky or the other one you kept some thing bee
My heart skips a beat when I watch you cutting the bulbs. Here in Australia bulbs are really expensive so we can’t afford to grow them for processing like you guys can. This year we have over 400 tulips in but this has cost us around $5.00 per bulb its sad that they are so expensive and that in all honesty we get to just enjoy them as the season begins to warm up. Some make it into to posy jars with the daffodils but then we have to interplant between the dying tulips and daffodils so that we have a secondary crop coming up behind them. This year it will be our sunflowers and zinnias
Oh my gosh that is so much money! We have a bulb graveyard where all the cut bulbs go to regrow and perennialize. It helps keep the squirrels out of our farm space as well. Happy spring for you! I always longingly watch my flower farmer friends on the other side of the globe in February when you are deep into dahlia season and we have snow. 🙃
I am a new subscriber to your channel. Did u direct sow your Lizzy's?
We started our lisianthus in December of last year in trays.
What is the red foliage filler plant?
Mahogany Splendor Hibiscus
I have been looking for a Canadian flower farm and finally your channel popped on my screen... i love all your dahlias...
Welcome! :)
Thank you for another great video. How do you possibly get florist quality dahlia blooms without organza bags? The bugs are all over my dahlias.
I'm not going to say the trick is to plant 200 of each variety....lol...but it might be. :P Success by over planting? In truth, we were finding the organza bags were staying too damp at this farm and when they'd dry they'd dirty the petals anyways - especially the light dahlias - so last year we planted the boom boom whites out at this farm plot to see how they would do with bug pressure, and we have surprisingly little there. It's been a very good summer here for japanese beetles as Beryl came through when they should have been emerging for mating. We've also culled a lot of dahlia varieties out of our wholesale offerings that do attract the bugs - I'm sure you've also noticed that they like certain colours of blooms more than others. We mostly only sell our tried + true ball dahlias to the wholesaler now since that is what they are looking for. Obviously, if you love using organza bags and that system is working for you, keep going. :)
Wonderful to see how well your farm is doing and gorgeous bouquets! I’m totally smitten by Floret Alpenglow, and leaving them to grow on for the extra week or even two has produced spectacular “fluffy “ blooms! I will definitely be reading up on how to save seeds from them! Thanks for a great video, definitely worth the wait 😊
So beautiful boquets ❤

Just found you, subscribed ✅ thanks for sharing your journey, it’s beautiful. 🤩
Welcome new friend!
i also tried for the 1st time lisianthus by seeds.. i did roseanne brown omg i love them!!! long lasting flower for sure
Yes, we’ve used roseanne brown from other growers for events in the past, but the blooms were not nearly as large as these. I’m astounded. It must be all the rain. 😉
@@greenbeefloralco yeah i know she is smaller... i will try new ones next year... but i still love the antique look of her. :-) im trying to dry some.. will see
Oh! They dry really well! Both hung and in silica! Good luck!
@@greenbeefloralco i harvest all the 1st bloom.. was short so why not. thank you
@@greenbeefloralco what is ur favorite?
What did she spray the zinnias with? My Florets started early as well but I love them.
They are commercial veggie growers. The spray is an industrial fungicide which requires a sprayers license in Canada. It won’t be available to home gardeners.
She recommends Neem Oil for home gardeners.
What weight are the kraft paper squares?
This is the uline listing for the sheets we use: www.uline.ca/Product/Detail/S-13732/Kraft-Paper-Wrap/30-lb-Kraft-Paper-Sheets-18-x-18
Lovely produce!
Thank you for this fantastic video. Do you divide your tubers in the fall or spring? Since you have so many, do you bother searching for an eye before dividing? Or do you just divide them all, then plant them all, and whatever comes up, comes up?
We divide in the winter. Since I’ve been growing dahlias for so long, finding eyes isn’t difficult anymore, but I don’t necessarily divide to single tubers anymore on some of our more prolific varieties. We plant specific quantities, so we do inventory dahlia tubers as we divide each winter.
Love your videos. What is the dahlia at 13:00?
The little pink one is called Camano Love and the fushia one is called Brittany Rey.
❤love
Good luck All the best. 1/8/24
I'm SO glad you are back again!!! I'm also always looking on your Facebook-side, but to see you acting in the field is so much more!!! And WOW what have you built up!!! I cannot even imagine the work of planting 7000 dahlias! And what an intelligent system you built up!!! You are SUCH an inspiration and all your plants look gorgeous!!! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and great work with us!!! I wish you the very best for the season!!! Greetings from denmark!! 🤗🌻💖
I notice a lot put their dahlias in hot water when they cut them. I have never done it. Does it improve vase life?
I, personally, have never used this method. We use Quick Dip and cool water when processing, which is just more efficient for the amount of dahlias we’re harvesting and designing with. Maybe I’ll do a test at the shop this year to see how it works in my climate. ☺️
I love your videos ! 😊❤🥰🙏🙏🙏

So exciting to see those gorgeous ranunculus and anemones, well let’s just say everything looks stunning 🤩 I do have a question; you mentioned storing your muscari and hyacinth in the cooler, at what stage would you pick them and how long can you store them? TIA😊
Hi! There’s a video a few back on Hyacinths harvest and storage that should answer your questions. As for muscari - I harvested at a few stages. They store well both dry and in water. Similar care to daffs.
“Upsetty Spaghetti” - will use this at work this week. 😎👌🏻
Not sure if you’re on Tiktok, but it’s a phrase used by Knitty (she’s Canadian. We love her). It’s in my vernacular along with “It’s the moist!” ☺️
How long can you store anemones and ranunculus in the cooler? And do you dry store or in water? Thanks for another great video, you guys are expanding the farm so much which is super exciting 😊
I watched the video twice to make sure I didn't miss it - but how do you store the Mascari in your cooler for later use? In water, out of water, wrapped? I've never grown it before but just ordered some for 2025 after watching you harvest it and had to get some for our flower stand arrangements!
We’re trialling both in water and dry to see what they like!
@@greenbeefloralco Awesome - I'll be watching and hope you'll give an update on which is best!!! THANK YOU!!
@@greenbeefloralco Also, what temp do you keep your cooler for tulips???

Thank you so much for this really outstanding Livestream!! You really helped me a lot and gave me courage. Thank you for the nice evening and for helping me so much by sharing your expertise! 🤗🌻🌸❣️
That is SO KIND! I hope that you continue to gain more followers on your farm! One thing I forgot to mention: Instagram is for those who want to do what you're doing, Facebook is where your customers are, since it tends to be more localized. Good luck!
In Ireland we have mothers day 3 weeks before Easter. It comes from the big estate houses. They let their staff go home 3 weeks before Easter. Hence, Mothering Sunday. Same in the United Kingdom.
I think I did know this. Leave it to North America to do something completely different for fun.
Sorry to miss your live. We're in very different time zones. Love from Ireland as always x
How do you find money to invest when the income fail?
I feel like this needs a whole live itself. The short answer is having a business plan and good financial records really helps predict and understand cashflow.
my Galaxy 23 phone has an option that I turned on that when I am ready to take a photo with myself in it, all I have to do is say out loud "smile" and the photo will be taken. Check to see if your phone has that, its way better than a timer.
My phone is older, so it does not have that feature, but GREAT tip for those that do!
I have a couple questions What is your process of overwintering ranunculus where you are? I'm in 8b and I think mine just rot in the ground.... Also....do you pull your ranunculus corms after they sprout in your tunnels ? Do you let the foliage die back before pulling the corms out ? Or do you just leave them and replant every year ?? I was wondering if you have to leave the foliage like you do with daffodils?? You have grown so much over the last couple years...its very impressive ....great job
We're in zone 6a, so we presoak corms for overwintering in mid july and plant in September. We allow them to grow roots and small sprouts and then put them in the tunnel. Usually we see growth in December/January. They are drip irrigated every 2-3 days, but not more than that. Cold won't kill the corms, but too much water definitely will. We pull corms before foliage dies all the way back, then let them dry out. We do also grow some patented varieties that need to be destroyed every year. I do generally reorder corms each year because I can't always predict that the used corms from the year before will be productive.
