How Super Mario RPG CHANGED Mario Forever
The Super Mario RPG remake is finally out on the Nintendo Switch, so let's take a look at just what makes this game so important. Mario's first foray into RPG territory had a bigger impact than you may realize: it revolutionized turn-based battles by introducing action commands, spawned two new beloved Mario series, and brought the Mushroom Kingdom to life in a way that no game had done before. It would also establish many series conventions that are still around to this day, such as Bowser's lovable personality.
Between Nintendo's return to form with this game and the upcoming Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, Mario's future is looking brighter than ever.

2022's best roguelite

There was no shortage of roguelites to try in 2022, but Revita was easily one of my favorites. Don't sleep on Wuppo. With its masterful worldbuilding and boundless wit and charm, this game will pull you in like few others can. Metroid Dread is Metroid Done Right
มุมมอง 8803 ปีที่แล้ว
Metroid Dread is the first brand new 2D Metroid in 20 years, and it has spent more than half of that time in development hell. In the meantime, the series has seen more than its fair share of disappointment. 0:57 anything with upgrades and using those upgrade at somewhere you've been before in the game counts as a metroidvania for me
HAAK has like 5 or 6 of the upgrades you mentioned here and the game is peak 🙏
Wrong Skyward Sword >>>>>>>>>>> Mid Waker
I love how the new bosses are looking! While watching, I thought of an idea u can implement to make the boss fight more dynamic, however idk if its with in scope. What if u implemented the dungeon elements into each room? Like conveyer belts and saws in the twins room, wind gusts in the jungle, and slippery floors on the ice or etc. Just a thought since it be nice to test and challenge the player using elements and pieces they have learned to get that far. Anyways, i hope things go well and happy coding!
I just got this last night
這講得太精彩了,完美講出我作為一個遊戲老玩家感受過的全部事情
Nice vid man! What do you think about the first game??
Double jump is actually number 1
That is actually amazing, i never played a double boss battle but now ut seems amazing to try
I know I'm late to the party but 9:48 *Climb crying in the corner*
Some good inclusions here, but I would include Castlevania gravity boots, black panther soul, back dash, and maybe wing smash. Aeterna Noctis teleport arrows are a newer addition as well
I love how you kept showing the Godskin Duo whenever you were talking about bad double bosses
I played this game when it first came out it's still my favorite. I love the art style and the characters are really funny. I find it hilarious how it goes from being a funny game where you get kicked out of your apartment goes to buying guns from the mafia to overthrow the government.
And let's not forget about saving the world or smt
Hey when is this game coming out? I’ve been wishlisting it for well over a year now
Kinda looks like a fat guy in a hoodie 5:45
No..Why can't SAMUS* crawl! 2:25 😅
Mechanically, Ori's Bash is almost the same at it's core as the Ice Beam from Metroid, turning enemies into something that actually complements the core gameplay, a platforming challenge. But it's more refined. The Speedbooster belonged on this list, no ifs or buts. And certainly not the Super Missile, what a knucklehead pick. The speedbooster might be the most complementory game mechanic to a Metroidvania's core gameplay, with how it asks you to think of the map as a whole. The map you have been exploring back and forth and memorizing more and more of throughout the game.
For me, the single-wall jump was iconic of the Mega Man X games. I'd even say that the single-wall jump (wall kick / wall climb), along with the emergency acceleration dash, was the feature that got me into Mega Man after years of the original Mega Mans seeming too rigid on movement options.
What a truly idiotic idea for a video
Offtopic, But Whatever happened to SMB: The Mushroom Hero(Sorry if this comment wasted your time.)
Ender Lilies grapple is king, but that game also had some of the most unique movement options. I'm surprised you didn't list anything from it.
Bro was right about Prime 4? what the fuck
What do you mean by "was right about"!?
this game is my favorite games, and its sad to know how underrated it is
The gigantic gems I think make the game feel too candy-crushy, I'd make them smaller or the same shape, unless they're different for a reason
This game is lovely and will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for making this video
I get the impression they are modeled after "wuppies", which at some point used to be popular in the Netherlands some 20 years ago when a big supermarket was giving them out for free during the soccer/football worldcup (it being a worldcup, it is more like 18 years ago). Wikipedia tells me that they are Weepuls in English
I love bash abilities a lot, but I don't usually think of the Ori example. I'm talking about the "slam yourself into the enemies like a feral being and go take a power trip" kind. It just feels so satisfying to just crash into a horde of enemies and mow through them all like grass, simply because you're going fast. It's why I love Wario-likes as a genre, and also why I consider sharp shadow a must-have in my hollow knight loadout.
I love this game. It scares me that such a magnificent game can get 8:00 so little buzz. I usually like to think good games get rewarded, but it’s not always so straight.
a list of metroidVANIA power ups but no Castlevania reference? what a shame
Tried all of these, and finished none, since they are skill-based. I am a fan of Igavanias though, which are item-based, its nice. Thanks for the list though, taking notes. And the Ori Bash or what not, is Shanoas main movement ability in Order of Ecclesia, an Igavania.
no castlevania?
You just made me buy this game. You’re pretty good man! Thanks!🙏
Just finished this. A rough one to 100% but thankfully the game clues you in
Environmental Station Alpha's hookshot was one of the first thing that came to my mind, so I'm glad it made the list.
swi´mming in water is what i was looking for in a pixel game
The best grapple hook in a game is in "Webbed."
im really love the bash
Not sure if you’re still reading the comments on this video but one metroidvania I love with unique power-ups is Elephantasy: Flipside. Nearly every power-up has multiple uses and the game is packed with fun secrets to discover!
Kinda surprised Metroids Speed Booster/Shinespark didn't make it to the list especially it's iteration in Dread. Easily my top 1 ability and it's not even close. You feel unstoppable and powerful but at the same time it's balanced because you can't pull it off that easily but when you do you feel like a god. It's pretty versatile to use and overall just perfect with addictive sfx and animations.
i got this game randomly on the ps store last year and im just so happy i did, it's sad that the devs are so underated, Wuppo is a magic game
I have to mention Haiku the Robot. In this game, you found a Space Disruptor. It gives you a teleport move, nothing new. But, what makes it stand out is that his only real limitation is range. In most of the games this power exists, some type of limitation is imposed (can only be used in certain spots, high cost, some type of object\wall are impervious to it, ...). In this game, this don't happen. No need for a specific target, no expense, nothing. Even the most solid wall can be ignored if its thickness is less than the teleport range. It's just deliciously broken.
that's not all that correct. There're plenty of places where you can't teleport through; doors for example.
9:25 What is that game ? The boy with red knuckles
flynn-son-of-crimson
I love the number 1 choice. I thought it was a very good idea when I first played the game.
Sir i recently came accross your video while trying to find how to make a good boss in unreal engine. Would you please make a tutorial on how to the boss in your video for 2D game in unreal. I am new to unreal so having a bit of a curve to find these tutorials. So would help out a lot. Thank you.
something i think i'd like to see in a doubles boss battle is combo moves, if both bosses are idle they may choose to do a combined attack like one throwing the other at the player, with the former finishing their animation before the latter (so they aren't eternally in combo mode)
Hello Kevyn the jar my name is Isaiah and I have something important to say to you. God loves you and like any father he wants to help you and keep you safe especially from the devil. But I am not just speaking to you about this I am also talking to your fans about this. God loves you all and especially in the times we our living in we are in need of him more than ever. But the choice is ultimately yours have a nice day Shalom Shalom.
23:10 "Don't feel bad if your art doesn't look as good as mine." Genuinely laughed at that. I'm extremely brand new to coding and GameMaker and I could follow about 70% of this tutorial. Thank you for this, though some parts went way over my head no matter how many times I watch it.
Phoenotopia: Awakening is definitely one of the greatest Metroidvanias of all time! I finally beat this game after a hundred hours or so, and I can't believe it's not on every greatest indi of the year list!
I'm at the last boss (not the secret last boss) clocking in at 96 hours. I've not found or done everything.
Yeah, I love the fact that Metroidvanias have become a really popular gaming genre, but Nintendo and Konami need to step up their game with the foundation.
Over the horizon huh? 😂
