Zihuatanejo happened to be our favourite anchorage in all of Mexico! We sailed our sailboat, Sitka, to a bay we consider the epitome of cruising. Ensenada Carrizal ticked all our boxes when it comes to enjoying a desolate spot. With good night rests and early morning snorkels, this bay was beyond enjoyable. Other cruisers told us Carrizal was a "must stop" and now we understand why! Next stop on our adventure: Zihuatanejo! We sailed the bay over from Manzanillo where we heard there was a shipwreck ready to explore. In the Bay of Santiago, we drop our hook and adventure around in the water to discover this massive steel cargo ship, lying on the beach, now a habit for all sorts of sea creatures. Our very first time dragging at anchor (and hopefully the last) In this video on sailing sitka, one of our worst nightmares while being at anchor came true when a wild wind gust lasting hours knocked sitka off her original position and dragged her back towards other boats and even a sandbar. Next to the anchorage there is an estuary that is 2 KM long to transit by dinghy to the other anchorage around the corner... one wrong maneuver and we found ourself stuck in the jungle!
