Increasing VO2max To Unlock Peak Performance & Longevity With Gilles Essiembre
Unlock the secrets to boosting your VO2 max and enhancing your overall performance as we sit down with the incredible Gilles Essiembre, a seasoned athlete whose expertise spans bodybuilding, Spartan races, and ultra-marathons. Gilles's impressive journey to achieving a VO2 max score of 70.4 at age 50 is nothing short of inspirational. Together, we'll uncover the immense benefits of respiratory training and how adjusting key biomarkers can lead to greater energy levels, fat burn, and potentially increased lifespan.
Proper breathing isn't just about oxygen-it's about optimizing your entire metabolic health. In this episode, Gilles illustrates how even minor distractions and irregular breathing patterns can derail your metabolism and stress levels. We’ll delve into the science behind lung capacity, spirometer readings, and the impact of different breathing rates on various exercise zones. Learn practical steps to enhance your oxygen absorption, optimize gas exchange, and ultimately improve your physiological outcomes.
Finally, we look at the intersection of long-term health and athletic performance, focusing on strategic weight management and fitness planning for seniors. Gilles shares his insights on the benefits of zone two training, the pitfalls of relying too heavily on carbohydrates, and the importance of balancing muscle mass with cardiovascular health. Whether you're managing COPD, asthma, or simply looking to take your athletic performance to the next level, this episode offers a comprehensive guide to respiratory and metabolic testing, individualized fitness protocols, and innovative breathing techniques through the latest technology.

Love Dr Yurth, “who needs friends, i’ve got peptides” hilarious!😂
My primary care physician said peptides are no good for you, they cause cancer. He also said modern pharmaceutical medicine is better for you. NOT, He told me this with a strong voice like I was stupid. So I came to my conclusion and research, my Doctor can go pound sand. I would never listen to him. it looks like he never been in a gym. Also, he is a dinosaur.
Is there a peptide for being exposed to mold? I would really appreciate it, if there was. Very good video .
Hi dont think this guy will answer, I have been researching and there are 3 of the 21 that kickstarts the whole system Thymus,Pineal , Blood vessels. Fire up your immune system and could sort your issue out............by the way Blood Vessel is the base to get these going if you will which is always used

“There's also a proposed Alzheimer's therapy called cerebrolysin, a peptide mixture derived from porcine brain tissue. An Austrian company (Ever) has run some small inconclusive trials on it in human patients and distributes it to Russia and other countries (it's not approved in the US or the EU). But the eight Masliah papers that make the case for its therapeutic effects are all full of doctored images, too. A third drug, minzasolmin, is supposed to prevent misfolding of alpha-synuclein and Masliah and co-workers published the original papers that make the case for its effects. Papers which have doctored images in them. Masliah co-founded a company (Neuropore) that has been developing the drug, and they have a partnership with Belgian drugmaker UCB. It has to be noted that this one has taken some fire already: a paper last year on its in vivo effects brought some pointed criticism that the drug's short half-life should have made it impossible for it to work under the conditions described. The authors responded that they had other evidence of the drug's mechanism, and I'm glad to hear it, because in addition to the original papers, their previous paper on the drug had images in it credited to Masliah that also seem to have been digitally modified. Minzasolmin is currently in Phase II trials. This is just a horrible situation in every direction. The NIH has stated that Masliah is no longer heading the Neuroscience division, but they haven't stated much else, honestly. An internal investigation starting in May of 2023 led to that decision, apparently but the statement also says that it was in reference to just two publications with duplicated images. It seems like a strange thing to take someone with a long and respected career and subject them to what would essentially be a Western blot and photomicrograph audit before offering them a big position. But if the NIH had done that in 2016, they wouldn't be in the position they're in now, would they? How many people do we need to check? How many figures do we have to scrutinize? What a mess.”www.science.org/content/blog-post/fraud-so-much-fraud
Wondering if you could tell me what peptides you use for cardiovascular issues? BPC 157?
@@colleenmcdermott203 it’s depends on the issue. Tesamorelin is amazing at reducing ApoB levels. BPC-157 is like the Swiss Army knife of peptides. I am always cycling on and off of that stuff. It really helps overall body repair.

I understand why the United States is not testing this but why isn't Canada at least doing their own research and tests?
Same reason as the US
Canada’s always behind with things so don’t expect us to be doing our own research.
That may change for the US. Even Andrew Huberman is talking about psychedelics, which has been unprecedented. With a Trump presidency, Russia is much more likely to share their research so it can be reproduced in the US. Then with more Western-based research, even people who don't like Trump or Putin would be more likely to trust.
Learned a lot from Dave's website of how to put some longevity conscious habits into practice. Please bring back Dave for more questions! Interesting stuff.
Dave and I speak often, I think he will be a returning many times;)
Looking good for your age, you forgot to mention the cosmetic procedures done to also look the way u do. No frown lines, botox is doing a very good job.

Having a relative VO2 Max of 70.4 mlO2/Kg/Min at the age of 50 isn't particularly impressive if you are 18 BMI and 110lbs (he said he was 5'5"). That would equate to an absolute VO2 Max of 3,506 mlO2/Min. My absolute VO2 Max is more than 10% higher than that and I am 63,
Hi, my bmi is always around 23-24 pending on where I want my body to be. There comes a point if you affect muscle mass and not body fat that VO2 Max will take a hit. Keep muscle mass up with a great VO2 Max. That’s the ultimate goal. I’m 140lbs and I can probably still keep my high VO2Max in the 140’s. So keeping a good balance at muscles, vo2 and fat % will be key :)

I became aware about slow resistance training when I've read studies about how to heal tendinopathies. There is a lot about isometric and eccentric training and heavy slow resistance training seems promosing too, but isn't as well studied as the mentioned two yet. Did you really mean that one set of each exercise is sufficient to actually build visible muscle or are there more sets needed per exercise shown?
Yes, one set will work if you completely go to failure. Very safe and very effective. I personally like doing a warm up set at a faster tempo with lighter weight to prep the muscle.
This guy is pretty hot. You're just friends? 😜
You’re too kind;)

Thanks- Profound is out of alot of stuff-QiSupplements ok site?
This seems like a really good supplement cause it has methylfolate instead of folic acid but it seem to have very high B6 which can cause nerve damage and also on amazon - bunch of people reporting anxiety and depression.
Yes, Thorne only uses the active forms of each nutrient. Which is what you want. I don't believe 20mg of B6 is too much. However, you never know what other supplements people are adding to the mix. B6 is used a lot in formulations. I personally look for supplements that don't add it. In terms of nerve damage, I found this on examine. This was observed using 6000mgs! "Pyridoxine neuropathy refers to a particular form of neuropathy (nerve damage) where high doses of any vitamin B6 vitamin can, over time, cause adverse symptoms mostly characterized in humans when doses exceeding 6,000mg are taken for longer than one year with the primary symptoms of sensory ataxia, diminished distal limb proprioception, paresthesia, and hyperesthesia." And here is a study where B6 actually reduced anxiety....In this randomized controlled trial, vitamin B6 supplementation improved anxiety and visual focus in healthy participants. examine.com/research-feed/study/1lBzV9/
Please have Phil on again 😊
