Which civ has the Best Cavalier?? | Age of Empires 2
There are so many civs with the cavalier upgrade, I don't even know where to start. I kept the best bonuses that could find about the knight line and present them to you, testing them individually and against each other to find the best cavalier of them all. Some of these civs are Persians with plus 2 attack against Archers, the Franks, with Cavaliers that have +20% hit points starting in Feudal Age and their unique tech the Chivalry: Increases the production speed of stables by +40%, +2 line of sight. The Sicilians with 33% less bonus damage, Hauberk: Knight-line receive +1 melee and +2 pierce armor, The Bulgarians with Faster attack speed, the Teutons with extra armor, the Malians with the infamous unique tech farimba and many many more.

The Leitis from the Lithuanians and the Monaspa from the Georgians have a similar civilization bonus. Both get 4 attack. Poles are not my favorite due to missing *two* Imp Armor upgrades. I also do not prefer quantity since population is limited. I saw the Sicilians performed quite well. They're probably my favorite of the ones here. I also like the Malian and Berber stables, but their knights are quite average.

What's the difference between equal and total resources
Bulgarians did well, but numbers are just too good. Explains a lot why the Ghot infantry bonuses are so good too.
@@pillbox2079 in most of the comparison video I've made so far, numbers almost always win despite they usually lack upgrades. P.S. Konnik is very strong unit

me too. all too often access to Paladin means missing Arb, ThumbRing, Bracer, and/or RingArcherArmor. Too big a sacrifice as far as I'm concerned.

these comments r so hopeless. cavalry isnt supposed to lose to cataphracts just cuz they look cool or ar an elite unit, thats not how this game works ppl.
@@raptorhacker599 don't you think they are too expensive? I mean if I play byzantines and the enemy goes infantry, I will be using FU arbs, HC other even skirmish, or a mix. Catas are no longer useful, losing to both cav and archers.
if you go cavalry, and they go pikes, you now suddenly don't have to spend armory upgrades and arbalest upgrade timing, if they make camel too. They are an anti cavalry specialist, and they do their one job quite well. In a loosing position, they're as hard to kill as the pre-nerf sicilians, even if they lost against heavier cavalry they were the best cav civ at one point because of no direct real counter.
With this accent, you're either Slav or Greek.

They are meant to handle swordsmen and pike spam, not to mention handle units like eagles, woads, berserks, and ofc, huskarls. For the heavy cav, you need to be using your own camels or halbs. Catas are very well designed to fit the civ, but I can see why their heavy cost, and very niche use makes them see so little game time. One of my favourite uus since AoK.

While I think reskins might be fun, you shouldn't change the stats. All your new units seem crazy OP to be honest.
Also, you say "Normans were known for strong cavalry", which is true, but Normans were NOT Vikings. They had a Viking mentality and half the genes were Viking, but the fighting style was definitely Frank.
When did I suggest to change stats?
What about Saracens?
They still super expensive for what they do(tech upgrades still very expensive as well), maybe could cost slightly cheaper or get +1 melee armor to deal better against heavy cavalry and be weak against archers only.

Cataphract its a great unit but needs a buff, maybe +2 attack and +1 pierce armor, its too expensive
But remember, due to nature of Logistica Catas work better when is more of them. I kniw it will be super late game scenario, but in numbers 40 and more for example fight against Paladin will reverse and they start to win.

Cataphract: by defintion an heavily armored unit. Armor => 2/1... They must be at 3/3.

At least you can see the improvement between the non-elite Cataphract and Elite Cataphract with the AOE damage and faster attack speed, but without blast furnace still hurt a lot for them (they cost too much)

Catas need some discount and the logistics to be merged in elite version 😊😊 🎉🎉 pierce armor is weak with 1 also but i understand they need some weak spots but brutal force and archer fire are many weak spots

Anti-anti cavalry
I am curious. What justifies the price of the Cataphract? Is it really just good against infantry and camels? Answer to the end of the video question: I am not a very good player, but I think they need a bit more armour. Boyars absolutely trash them and even konniks beat them without even resorting to their second unit.
Every Cav in this scenario is killed by Byzantine Camels (except Konnik) and Camels share upgrades with Catas, so you will basicly have them anyway.
Understandable VS boyars, but I hate how bad they performed agaisnt monaspas and leitis, those units needs a huge nerf

I still think Cata's anti armor should be by percentage instead of fixed damage (33/40% damage reduction for normal and 50/66% for Elite Catas).

But right now, catas negate most of all bonus damage from heavy camels and pikes, and all bonus damage from camels, Genoese crossbow, kamayuks, mamelukes, Viking Chieftains bonus, samurai ( or not. I can't remember if cata only has cavalry class armor), and other small bonuses.

Catas are anti infantry and trash, and can keep fighting against heavy cav if they are supported by monks (healing rate +100%), not mentioning Byzantines have cheaper heavy camels and halbs. Byzantines' playstyle is all about a good use of their anti-units and monks

Why it looks like the first attack of each cavarly is distrupted by the camel attack. Their animation looks like it stops half-way.
Hmmm Magyar Hussar should do 11 damage per hit. It looks like he hits 3 or 4 times, yet the camel looses only 22 hp.

it really teases me that imperial camel loses against the cataphract especially when you notice how fast the imperial camel hits compared to the cataphract speed

@@user-ix1nd7jg3i you did no mistake, the camel's animation seems much faster indeed. But I have noticed, when searched the game files, that animation is not always working the at the same speed with damage. A perfect example is the halberdier. From animation alone you can't figure when damage is applied.

I would really like to see the imperial camel against the Sicilian cavalier. I think that it's a close match up.

Players make walls with houses and other buildings. They even make internal walls. There are almost no uses for that siege unit. I prefer to use those resources in other options. At best, they can serve as a surprise entry into a player's fortress in the middle of a boom. It could be a very quick victory.
