Man-At-Arms for Feudal Rush, which is the best? | Age of Empire 2

- Let's talk about Feudal age rush gameplay today. Most people use archers and scouts by the time they reach feudal age. But an overlooked option is the use of the militia line and especially the man at arms. People rarely use them nowadays are they can be countered effectively with range units. But what if they have bonuses that benefit them? Let's take a look at the man at arms bonuses of the feudal age and rank them according to their effectiveness.
Here are the civ/team/unique tech bonuses:
Aztecs: Men-at-Arms are created 11% faster.
Bulgarians: Men-at-Arms upgrade is free.
Burmese: Men-at-Arms have +1/2/3 attack in Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age.
Celts: Men-at-Arms move 15% faster starting in Feudal Age.
Dravidians: Men-at-Arms upgrade cost 50% less.
Georgians: Men-at-Arms receive 15% less damage when fighting form higher elevation.
Goths: Men-at-Arms cost -20/25/30/35% in Dark/Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age.
Goths: Men-at-Arms have +1/2/3 attack against Standard Buildings in Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age.
Incas: Men-at-Arms cost 10/15/20/25% less food in Dark/Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age
Japanese: Men-at-Arms attack 33% faster.
Magyars: Blacksmith attack upgrades are free.
Malay: Blacksmith armor upgrades are free.
Malians: Men-at-Arms have +1/2/3 pierce armor in Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age.
Portuguese: Men-at-Arms cost 20% less gold.
Romans: Men-at-Arms receives double effect from Blacksmith armor upgrades.
Sicilians: Men-at-Arms receive 33% less bonus damage.
Tatars: Men-at-Arms deal 25% more damage when fighting from higher elevation.
Teutons: Men-at-Arms have +1/2 melee armor in Castle/Imperial Age.
Vikings: Men-at-Arms have +20% hit points starting in Feudal Age.

I'd replace Romans with Dravidians. Making a blacksmith to get armor is way too late if we are talking about MAA rush. On the other hand, cheaper upgrade and free 200 wood are awesome. As you said, timing is everything.
Yeah, in these tests, it really depends on how good on micro you are.
I was expecting us to be mentioned, but not to be in first place.

I try to keep my preferences out of the tests. It's just what seemed right to me.
Malians have cheaper building 15% less wood. That helps with the barracks
Japananese has 50% cheaper eco buildings cost, spanish gain 20 gold with each tech, portuguese has somewhat cheaper in gold MaA, goths has a monstrous advantage even in castle age, etc
Agreed, but there are better bonuses out there.
Also, Malay should be at least honorable mention, with their free armor and faster up time.
They were many civs that should be at least mentioned but it would make the video at least 2 minutes longer and I wanted to keep it as short as possible. Malay is one of them though

At the min 3 shouldn't be archers instead of crossbowmen shooting at those Men at Arms?
Yes, but it's just for demonstration purposes.
What about Slavs and their free Supplies? Its actually bigger discount than Goth in food, and food is harder to get in Feudal.
Your discount starts in feudal age, so your militia to be upgraded to manatarms don't gain anything from it. I've tried faster feudal age time and then start making militia with Slavs, but I found it to be very ineffective as you are not faster to manatarms and you only have 17 vils working on the way to feudal age instead of 20 or 21 so you collect much less resources.
It does help if you want to make additional manatarms though. My point is it doesn't benefit the initial feudal rush.
Slavs discount is 45 food and Goths is also 45. Also Goths have lower cost gold too. So Goths have cheaper Men-at-arms.
Armenians not considered?
No, they still need to pay full price for those upgrades. Takes too long.
They have no bonuses on Feudal age. Although the +2 LOS is not that bad.
Sicilians
I have to make a separate video for them. Their bonus damage reduction is tricky and I don't know how useful would be at Feudal age.
Malians last??? dude you have to be 500 elo or less to think attack is more valuable than armour.
Then I might be a 499 elo player😄
