    What a beautiful and heartwarming video! I was so touched by the pieces you got from the stitcher. We lost a great friend who was an avid embroiderer, quilter and cross stitcher and her husband invited the local chapter to a private sale. Although it was difficult and emotional, we each have something to remember her by. Let’s be all your projects and I definitely enjoyed Sampler September. I am saving Georgiana and Ann for Dark November as well. Happy Stitching

    Trouble getting supplies? Try living in Australia! We rarely have access to Fox and Rabbit linen, amongst other linen. I now use, pretty,much exclusively, Number12StitchCo dyed linen. Easily found, rapidly delivered ( may have something to do with Nicola living in the next street😂) and fabulous to stitch on, and shipping isn't ridiculous. Don't question for one minute why you have so many kitted projects.....makes perfect sense. Stunning projects.

    I cannot thank you enough for the kind and sweet words you said about my mother-in-law’s sale. It made me cry. Your response and seeing how much you care about the pieces are exactly why we did it! Putting her precious collection into the hands of people as passionate about it as she was is the number 1 goal we had. Our family thanks you with our whole heart! I wish we had her finished works on display that weekend so others could see the gift God gave her with the artistry, skill, and creativity in her many talents. Your large samplers are amazing. What scroll rods or frame do you use to stitch such large patterns? I’m searching for frames or Potoky stand for smaller hoops. I would appreciate your insight. Also loved your lesson on various silk threads for cross stitching which I have not used todate. Only used silks and metallics years ago when i did needlepoint using a laying tool to keep threads flat and play nice together. I have not ventured into silks thus far for cross stitch pieces.

    • @karencombsstudio
      @karencombsstudio 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Sharon, thanks so much for your nice note, I appreciate it so much. Mostly I use a 6 or 7 inch hoop along with my Potoky stand. I’ve tried stitching in hand as well as with a scroll rod, but (for me) find the hoop and Potoky stand works best. I use the magnetic bands to hold the excess linen out of the way while I stitch. (I think I showed them in one of my early FlossTube videos. ) I do remove the hoop when I am finished stitching for the day. That helps prevent hoop marks and crushed stitches. Thanks again for your note! 🙂

    So many options for you to choose. I am a monogamous stitcher. Many of you long time floss tubers that I watch often purchase kits with a good comment that when you want to stitch, the correct supplies are in your hands. May I ask, how do you then file all the left-over flosses as there are bound to be duplicates?

    • @karencombsstudio
      @karencombsstudio 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@noreencurry5901 Hi Noreen, thanks so much for your note. I keep all of my flosses on a ring in alphabetical order by dyer - Weeks, Gentle Arts, etc. When I finish a project, I put the floss back on the ring in alphabetical order. Sometimes, most of the floss is used and I don’t save it if it’s only a few strands. However, sometimes there is over half a skein (or more) left and I just put it back on the ring. I am all right with having duplicates since some projects use more than one skein and you won’t know that till you get into the project. Just had to grab a second skein of Oscar for Mary Ann Copp and still have half the sampler to go. Having duplicates is handy in these circumstances. Thanks so much for your note. 🙂

    Thank you for another great video! Enjoy your stitching. I just finished "Forever and Ever" by Cottage Garden Samplings yesterday. I added some touches specific to our Grandson and his fiance who are getting married next year. Wanted to have it ready for framing as I'm not speedy. Am on my seventh pattern for 12 days of Christmas by the same designer. Also "Shores of Hawk Run Hollow" is waiting for some attention. Will be doing the fourth block. It's hard not to get ahead of myself because I basically switch off between a large project and a smaller one. That is what works for me!

    Anyone wanting to criticize your stitching omission should keep it to themselves. No matter how carefully I place quilt blocks in a scrappy setting I always get it back from the quilter and there are blocks close together with fabric in common. It’s just going to happen and I live with it and am just happy it is finished. A modern French braid is always the star.

    Sometimes the right "treasure" jumps out in the most unexpected places and times. The frame you found works beautifully with Sarah Milthrop. I also started SM on the 40ct called for linen, but I'll be switching to a 46ct. The 100.3 silks just is not giving me the coverage I want. I love that sampler...so I need to get proactive and buy that 46ct.

    I know you feel bad about Sarah Millthorp, but I always say if we want perfection it needs to be done by a machine, which would be really boring. The Rebecca Nurse house is a beautiful authentic saltbox with a very interesting history, as does Rebecca. The house is still in great shape and open for tours. If you haven't done it already, read about Rebecca. She was the oldest one to be executed, so tragically. She also has a very interesting lineage. (Your quilts are gorgeous but I won't enter since I also make them, and would not want to take a chance of winning over someone who doesn't have them.)

My mother was also an artist and I have a painting very similar to yours. One of my favorites. I do have a question though. Karen thank you for your inspiring video. My mom discovered some missing stitches on a piece she stitched after it was framed. At first she was upset and then we chuckled over it as it was “special”. Now 20 years after she has passed it is my favourite one on my wall as I think about her every time I look at it. It really is a beautiful linen. Creamy white base with bits of yellow here in there. I'm using the back to it "smooths" out and lightens the yellow bits. Not sure where it might be available, I've never seen it before I found it at Cecila's last summer. She might have some left. Cream and Sugar by FOAW might be a good option. I did have a bit of a time finding the right linen for this project, but am happy with the Amaryllis. Wishing you the best as you search for your linen for this project.
