Wonderful video Karen, and Thank You for the video tour of Celia's Samplers shop; WOW! I can not imagine browsing all those beautiful linens, charts, models and threads and not leaving with a zero bank account!! What a delight. I loved seeing your kitted projects and the additions to your linen stash. Have a great week and I hope your seeds sprout soon! See you next time. xoxo

Sheila, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice comment. 🙂 The shop visit was great, so much to see, well displayed, everyone was so friendly and helpful.
Your videos are wonderful! Thank you for sharing not only pictures of your travels but also your wealth of knowledge with us. It was Pat, one the dyers of R&R linens (and Dyeing to Stitch), who said that about ironing the projects at the most recent Quilters Station retreat (I was there).

The pictures of the LNS in Branson was wonderful! I'm looking forward to watching your next floss tube. Take care

So glad you enjoyed this episode and thanks so much for your nice comment. 🙂 The deep gold fabric on Quaker Dwelling is 36 count Havana by Weeks Dye Works. It really is a lovely color. . . Thanks again for your nice comment!

What a helpful idea to put different fabric colors next to Vintage Country Mocha! Thank you! Nicola Parkman of HATS brought the Z lamp to the attention of the cross stitch world, and it is nice to see how many are finding it so helpful. Also appreciated the review of the needles and scissors. Something to think about. Glad the Potoky company is still able to get their needlework stands out of Ukraine. Have a good couple of weeks!
Thanks so much,Marcia! So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note. 🙂 I am really enjoying the Potoky stand and the Z light. So glad Nicola brought the Z light to our attention. 🙂
Thank you, Karen! Great visit, as usual. You're one of my very favorite FlossTubers. I was happy to learn you like, and bought, the "Ultimate Sampler Motifs Source Book." I've had my eye on it. Now, I will definitely add it to my "To Buy List." Big smile
Hi Sharon, so glad you enjoyed the video and it was helpful. I also was on the fence about the motif book before I could actually look at it. Once I saw it, I knew it was packed full and was a good purchase. It was helpful for me to see it and I’m glad it was helpful to you as well. Thanks again for your note! 🙂
I am so enjoying your Flosstube channel! I am also a quilter who is getting back into cross stitch. It's amazing how much the industry has developed since I started years ago!
Hi Mary! So glad you are enjoying my floss tube videos, thank you so much for your nice comment. You are right the Crosstitch industry has developed so much. Hand, dyed floss and linen, new designers, antique, reproduction samplers. so many new things! It’s been fun discovering them. 🙂
Hi Karen! Thanks for the video. That really is a marvelous shop. I do enjoy stitching on 40 count. I have a few pieces of higher count linen for a few projects. What keeps me from stitching on it is I prefer stitching in hand and I may have to use a hoop to open the threads. Keep up the good work!
I got your flosstube in my feed and love it! I subscribed right away. Love your stitching and your calm explanation of things. ❤ I have been stitching since the 1970s and so have lots of kits that include Aida and at my age, im just trying to get my WIP count down.
Hi Karen! Thank you for comparing fabrics to one another. It is really helpful especially to those of us who don't have a LNS close by and depend on mail order. I agree with you 100% on Baker Creek! Have you grown their Kajari Melons?
So glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. I Aren’t Baker Creek seeds wonderful?!? I haven’t grown their Kajari Melons. Will have to give them a try. So far everything I’ve gotten from them has been fantastic. Thanks so much for your comment. 🙂
Karen! You are a pleasure to listen to and so informative! I have learned a lot from your video. I have a hard time with a smaller count. I’m looking at different glasses and lights. 36ct seems to be hard enough for me. I recently had back surgery as they put a implant in. I’m hoping for improvement! Thankyou so much again. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Hi Sue! So glad you enjoyed the video and hope you heal quickly from your back surgery. I’ve had good success with the higher power reading glasses. I have several different strengths and sometimes switch between them. The halo light I talk about in the video has also been a big help for me. Most often I use the light, but sometimes I add the magnification lens to help me see. I found it to be quite helpful. I put the links to both in the description so you can look them over. Thanks again for your nice note, I really appreciate it
Thanks for the visit of Cecilia’s sampler! I wish I had an LNS near… I live in Quebec Canada so I have to order online. Love your choices of stitching! New subscriber here 😊
So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your nice note! Cecilia’s was such a fun visit. It’s about 6 hours from my home, so I was glad I got to visit. It’s a great shop and wonderful customer service. 🙂

Hi Karen. So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your note. Excellent information about the linen, I will certainly be contacting them. ❤️ Thanks again!
I was so surprised to hear you say my name and bring up my question about your dmc box and organization. Your answer has helped me. I am inclined to organize by color but by looking at the dmc chart and pulling the floss by number is working. I have an IOU list I keep in the top of the box. I love your red leather boxes. I was fortunate enough to find a vintage red leather travel jewelry case on Etsy. Your Hannah Campbell is beautiful. I was torn between it and Maria Ewin but I chose Maria. It is my first Hands Across the Sea.
I think the Zig-Zag light will be a great travel light. So small and light. Wonderful to know The Attic also carries them. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
Hi Karen! How pleasant to see you again. Congrats on the fun trip! It's so helpful when you hold up the linens to compare colors. Do you have any blue linens you could do this with? I want to make the Holland Springtime chatelaine and I'm finding few blue colors available in the "fat half" size. Of course one never knows what it really looks like in person...between the camera changing the color and one's computer monitor, etc. But your comparison does help a lot.
Hi Kim! So glad you enjoyed the video. You are right, the camera does tend to change the color. You have to find that perfect spot and then hope it shows directly. So glad you enjoyed the comparison. I find holding a familiar color next to the new color also helps me as well. I don’t have much blue. Will have to take a look. If I do, I will show it next time. I wonder if Under the Sea fabrics will have some good blues. I think I saw some at Cecilia’s. . . . Thanks so much nice note. 😂
Wonderful job, Karen! I’m so happy to have come across you! As a quilter & basically a new cross stitcher (the tiny bit of Aida stitching I did in the 80’s really doesn’t count) I’d love to hear your tips on advancing in linen count. I don’t have a shop anywhere near so haven’t been able to even look at different count linens, much less colors. 😢 Also, what color wood is your Potoky stand? It’s beautiful! This was the first of your videos I’ve watched so off to watch some of the others now. Ty!
So glad you enjoyed this episode and thank you for your lovely comment! :) Be sure to check out my other FlossTubes. . . I try to share something in each video that I've found helpful and share it. My Potoky Stand is the Light Walnut, I believe. I am enjoying using it. Thanks again for your nice note!
Cecilia’s is my LNS even though they are three hours away. I have only been cross stitching two years and the staff at Cecilia’s has been so helpful. The store is almost overwhelming with all the samples and cross stitching supplies. Color and Cotton now has a store in St. Louis and that’s only ninety minutes away. I’ll have to pay them a visit.
Hi Karen. I too think that it's up to you whether you iron your projects. Do you. As far as stopping from working on higher counts - it's the thread availability. I live in NZ, so anything overdyed or interesting has to come from overseas. I cannot really convert my soie d'alger or DMC to 100.3 or soie surfine, as there are no conversion tables for them, and I cannot see an appropriate picture on a screen to purchase accurate colours. I'm about to start Catherine Metcalfe on 40 count, and as she is mainly over one, I shall resort to converting the DMC to nylon sewing threads. I've done it before!
You are right about the availability. It’s a little better than it was last year, but supply chain issues are still an issue. Sometimes The Attic, Needle in a Haystack or Hobby House will offer a silk conversion. I’m sure there are some others For Hannah Campbell, I joined the Facebook Group (HATS Hannah Campbell - SAL). Cathe Rae posted a conversion for the over one from Soi D’Alger to 100.3 to Surfine. I contacted Needle in a Haystack to order. It is back-ordered, but hopefully it will be in within a month or so. Hoop and Frame also had several options for thread kits for Hannah. I’m so sorry about the difficulty getting hand-dyed linen for you. I have ordered a few items directly from the dyers a few times. Even coming from overseas, the shipping was fairly reasonable (compared to US shipping costs) and it came in fairly quickly. Your option of converting from DMC to other thread sounds like a good solution and very creative. Well done! Thanks so much for your note. I appreciate all the information you shared.
Quaker Dwelling on Havana is gorgeous. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to my area. Cecilia's is my LNS and I'm so blessed to have them so close. Are you aware that Color and Cotton has a new brick and mortar store in St. Louis? You might call them and ask about the Boardwalk linen. Thanks for sharing, as always.
Another great video! Thanks for the inspiration! No need to iron your projects...but I would like to know what. iron you are using as I can not get out the fold lines from my new linen nor the wrinkles! I know my iron is old...got any recommendations? Thanks much!!!
Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your nice note. 🙂 I use a wool pressing mat on my ironing board, so the heat reflects back to the bottom of my work. I use a dry, hot iron ( set on the cotton or linen setting). My iron is older. I think it is a Rowenta, but will have to check. I also lightly mist my piece with Best Press before I iron. (If I’m concerned about the colors running, I skip the Best Press.) . Hope this is helpful and thanks for your question. It is a good one! 🙂
Questions: How do you organize your threads in your DMC box? Is it by number or color groups? I received my box a week ago. It came in three days although I ordered it from the French wesite. What are the four red boxes that are on top? They look like Cohana boxes. I wanted a red Cohana box for my stitching travel case but I settled for a vintage leather jewelry box instead. Debora Carrol, you and I live so close. I hope we can meet someday at a retreat, here in the South. My husband and I have talked about taking short trips too. Our plan is to go to Padukah, Ky to the quilt museum.. Jan 2020 we went to the Biltmore Estate. The Downton Abbey exhibit was there.
Hi Ann, thanks so much for your comment. I’ve organized my DMC threads by number. I find, at least for me, it makes finding the thread easier. The red cases on top of the DMC cabinet . . . the two on the left are Hand and Lock cases and the two on the right are Leatherology cases. You will enjoy the Quilt Museum in Paducah. It’s excellent. If you are in Paducah, you won’t be too far from the new Color and Cotton shop outside St. Louis. Debora Carroll visited there in May and made a FlossTube about it. 🙂
@@karencombsstudio I saw her visit to Color and Cotton. Thanks for the info and the answer to my questions. I would like to see what you use the boxes for.
I’m still stitching on Aida, have some beautiful charts that need to be stitched in higher counts. So I bought a couple of different fabrics a 28 count and 32 count. But I’m terrified to start. I have no idea how, have watched some vids but explanation has not been easy for me to follow. Would love if you touch in this with a demo in the future. I’m sure there are many of us who feel this way. Thanks.
Just found you, thank you so much so informative. Would love to try silk. Is 103 a brand? Doing a Google search here in UK just gives me colours with a 103 number? Looking forward to your next TH-cam and your previous vlogs 😊
Hi Susan, so glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks so much for your nice comment! The 100.3 silks I mentioned are by Au Ver A Soie. Here in the US; Hobby House, The Attic, Needle in a Haystack, Hoop and Frame, 123 Stitch carry this brand. I’m sure there are others ( Traditions Stitches in Canada also has them, I believe) Here is a link to the silk at 123 Stitch. It may help you as you search in the UK www.123stitch.com/item/Au-Ver-A-Soie-Soie-1003-523/SMS-523 I hope this is helpful. Thanks again for your note. I will plan to talk a little more about this silk and it’s different weights in an upcoming FlossTube. It’s a good topic! 🙂
Hiya I'm newbie to ur channel u mentioned about what we are afraid of on higher count fabric.. I'm used to stitching 16, 18, 20, 22, 25 count I would like to try 32, 36, and 40 count for a long time but couldn't find a tutorial on how to start like ur first stitch was wondering if you know any tutorial or anything to help me start off
Elaine, thanks so much for your comment and I’m so glad you are enjoying the episode. Thank you for your feedback about stitching on linen. I will make a note of it and plan to talk about this in my next FlossTube. 🙂
Hi Michele, thanks so much for your note! I got the magnifying (readers) glasses on Amazon. They come in different strengths. Here is a direct link to the 4.00 readers I purchased, they came in a pack of 5. You can get a mixed color or pick a color amzn.to/3CwyG5g Here is a link to the 6.00 readers I purchased, they came in a pack of 4. amzn.to/3p9ybek I've been pleased with both sets. I mostly use the 4.00. The 6.00 I've used for one over one on high count. (I've also put the link(s) in the video description. )

Thanks.
Thanks so much for your comment/feedback. It is very helpful. . Will definitely keep this in mind as I work on the next video. 🙂
No need to iron for us, i like to see projects in their natural state. Love your videos.
Thanks, Julia! 🙂
The 100.3 silks I mentioned are by
Au Ver A Soie.
Here in the US; Hobby House, The Attic, Needle in a Haystack, Hoop and Frame, 123 Stitch carry this brand. I’m sure there are others ( Traditions Stitches in Canada also has them, I believe)
Here is a link to the silk at 123 Stitch. It may help you as you search in the UK

I hope this is helpful.
Thanks again for your note. I will plan to talk a little more about this silk and it’s different weights in an upcoming FlossTube. It’s a good topic! 🙂

Elaine, thanks so much for your comment and I’m so glad you are enjoying the episode.
Thank you for your feedback about stitching on linen. I will make a note of it and plan to talk about this in my next FlossTube. 🙂
@@karencombsstudio thank u so much x
Hi Karen would you share the details of the magnifying glasses you use
Hi Michele, thanks so much for your note! I got the magnifying (readers) glasses on Amazon. They come in different strengths.
Here is a direct link to the 4.00 readers I purchased, they came in a pack of 5. You can get a mixed color or pick a color

I've been pleased with both sets. I mostly use the 4.00. The 6.00 I've used for one over one on high count.
(I've also put the link(s) in the video description. )
