Hi, Karen! I loved your quilts as a backdrop for your videos, but your new location also has a lot to recommend it. The background is lovely, and I was able to admire your red vignette atop your DMC chest. Because it’s easier for you to work from the new location, I’m giving it my vote. If you do so, perhaps you can show us a picture of one of your quilts from time to time! As you know, I adore Flowers for Beatrice on the Foxy linen, but I’m now equally enamored of Feast of Friendship for it. Am really looking forward to hearing what you decide. With your eye for color, you’re certain to make an excellent choice! The linens you’ve chosen for all of your projects are fabulous. Instead of thanking us for following you on Flosstube, we should thank you for sharing your talent with us. You never fail to inform and inspire! Thank you so much!
Thank you for showing the Battle of Franklin Trust Samplers, we need to maintain our history now more than ever. Also they are gorgeous. Years ago I was visiting Carnton Plantation and the gardner was culling the Iris plants. I now have purple Iris in my garden from Carnton. A great memory. And I love the fabric color comparisons, it helps a lot.
Julia, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your note! How wonderful that you have some iris saves from the Carnton Planation. ❤️ Thanks again for your nice comment. 🙂
Well, I am all caught up; I finished my binge session of your prior videos an am looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing your time & talents with us! Happy Stitching!
Hi Karen you came up this morning on my notifications. Thanks for posting such interesting videos. I actually looked up the Franklin battle. I'm Canadian and I enjoy learning about the history you provide associated with the samplers. Feast Look forward to your next flosstube, Marion
Thanks, Marion! So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your nice comment. The battle of Franklin isn’t a well-known battle, but it was strategically important. If you ever are in Nashville, it is only 20 or 25 minutes south. The curtain mansion was used as a hospital after the battle and is also open for tours. It’s just a few miles away. Lots of Civil War history in our area, we have tried to visit many of the battlefields in tour many of the homes. I have toured the Carter house several times, but did not realize the sampler I saw had been reproduced. I was pleased to see a chart and I’m sure enjoying working on it.
Karen, I just found you as a cross stitcher. I have made several quilts from Celtic pieced Illusions and really enjoyed them. So many quilters seem to be jumping on the cross stitch wagon. I found cross stitching again when the Silver Needle came to the Houston quilt show. I love seeing all your linens and projects. I don't have an opinion on your set, as I now have to go back and binge all of your previous episodes. I am interested in feast . So glad I found you.
Hi Joan! Aren’t the Celtic Pieces Illusions quilts fun?!? So many design options. I also know many quilters who are returning to cross stitch. . .so many fabric options and floss options. Hand dyed, silks reproduction samplers, it’s so different from when I did cross stitch back in the mid- 80s. 🙂 Thanks so much for your nice note, wonderful to have you here!
So glad you enjoyed the FlossTube. 🙂 I’m still lecturing and teaching quilting, just doing it virtually for the past 3 years. Returning to stitching after quite a few year and having a blast! 🙂
Thank you for another great video. I really appreciate your linen comparisons- please keep them up. I buy online due to no LNS so your comparisons are so helpful.
Thanks, KC. So glad the linen comparison was helpful. I don’t live near a local Crosstitch shop, either, have purchased most of my linen online, which is a challenge. So glad it is helpful to you. 🙂
I look forward to seeing your Feast chary all stitched up. Thank usu for showing all the fabric. I am getting back into stitching an do not have any linen fabric yet. Your review is so helpful.
I just found your flosstube. I absolutely love all the information you provide! I am a returning stitcher and new to linen, so your knowledge is wonderful. I would appreciate Feast of friendship, it is beautiful! I love your cross stitch background, but your quilts are beautiful so it doesn't matter which background you choose. Maybe alternate? Thank you for what you do!
So glad to see you posted a new Flosstube!. I really enjoy your videos. You are pure joy. I just enjoy your floss tube. I don’t care what background either one is beautiful.
Loved your video. Thank you for showing the linens, always a problem for me! Ordering online is maddening so it was very informative. Anxious to see the previous thirteen.
So glad you enjoyed the video! 🙂 I agree, ordering linen online can be difficult. Very happy you found it helpful. Thank you so much for your nice comments. 🙂
So happy I came across you Flosstube, beautiful stitchy projects,I live in NZ and we don’t have as many craft shops anymore, would love to try a Queen hoop, have a good week Thankyou for sharing 👍🇳🇿🪡❤️
Donna, thanks so much for your nice note, so happy you enjoyed the video! We had the privilege of visiting New Zealand in January 2020. What an absolutely beautiful country. We throughly enjoyed our visit. Thanks again for your note. 🙂
I know all about losing interest in projects!! I did go back and finish two quilts so far this year from 2002 and 2015 and repurposed a sampler I started in the 90s !!!
So glad you enjoyed the video, Susan. :) I love how the hoops look in the basket. I am keeping some of my oval hoops in one basket and the other hoops on the new hoop stand. Thanks so much for your comment.
Karen, I always enjoy your videos but especially like seeing all of the different linens you show. It is so helpful to see the colors compared with each other when you don't have an LNS.
Hi Karen. Thank you for all the wonderful information you shared and all your beautiful stitching. Being able to see all the different linens is also so helpful. You mentioned a linen club and I was wondering how to find out more about that? Now that I have discovered your flosstube, I am excited to watch all of your videos.
Hi Christine, wonderful to have you joining us. 🙂 The linen club is from GaRon Stitchery. I believe it is sold out for this year, but there is a waiting list you can sign up for. You can also sign up for their newsletter to find out about upcoming clubs. I think I found out about it from their newsletter or maybe their Facebook page. I was so surprised to hear you say my name and bring up my question about your dmc box and organization. Your answer has helped me. I am inclined to organize by color but by looking at the dmc chart and pulling the floss by number is working. I have an IOU list I keep in the top of the box. I love your red leather boxes. I was fortunate enough to find a vintage red leather travel jewelry case on Etsy. Your Hannah Campbell is beautiful. I was torn between it and Maria Ewin but I chose Maria. It is my first Hands Across the Sea.
So glad you enjoyed the video. 🙂 I thought your questions were excellent and wanted to share the answer. Glad it was helpful. Your vintage red travel jewelry case sounds lovely! I really enjoy the Hands Across the Sea samplers. They are all so beautiful and different. Hard to decide between them. 🙂 Thanks so much for your comments.
Your projects are a feast for the eyes and your patience showing your fabric and thread choices is invaluable! I am really enjoying your floss tubes. I am a quilter too but I did enjoy this background❣️
I really enjoy all of your floss tubes! Cannot wait to feast my eyes on the next one! 🥰. Love connecting with you again through cross stitch. From our days long ago as neighbors when our girls were little. 😊
Thanks so much for your comment, Paulette. :) You might want to check at your local library and see if they have any stitching groups meeting. That may be another way to meet some new stitchy friends. :)
Hello ! This is my first visit on your flosstube and to answer your question : please direct your camera in the way YOU are most comfortable. And thank you for asking.
Hi Keryn, Thanks so much for your note, I really appreciate it. The fox and rabbit foxy linen was a club color. I don’t think it’s available outside of the club yet but not 100% sure when it will be. I have my collection of DMC in this cabinet. I purchased it last year from DMC. It includes the entire range of DMC floss and the cabinet was included. (I was just returning to stitching and don’t have much DMC, so it was a good option for me. ) If you go to the DMC website, it may be still available. I’m not sure how long it was or will be available. If you already have quite a range of DMC, I did see some similar wooden cabinets on Amazon. Not exactly the same and smaller, but might be a good option.
Have you read the book, The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks? It's based on the true story of Carrie McGavock whose home was turned into a field hospital during the Battle of Franklin.
You always have so many examples for us to Feast our eyes on. I’ve done cross stitch for years but never a sampler. Do you use any kind of an aid to help you see those small cross stitches?
Hi Judy, so glad you enjoyed the video. To stitch on the higher count Linda and I have found higher power readers extremely helpful. I found them on Amazon. I have a pair of 4.0 which I use consistently when stitching on 40 count or above. Will all depend on your vision needs, many people like 3.5, I found 4.0 works well for me and have another friend who likes to use 5.0. The readers are fairly inexpensive for several pairs, so I bought several strengths to keep on hand. When I was doing one over one on 46 count, I use my higher power readers and also use the magnifier on my halo go light. However, I don’t need to use the magnifier on the light for two over rwo, just the readers. 🙂
