- Hi everyone, welcome to a very special FlossTube: an emotional introduction and announcement before my sewing studio tour.
What I can I say??? I got emotional! I decided to leave the first take of the introduction, since it was from the heart.
I want to thank all those people in my career who were part of my 36+ year journey: magazine editors, book editors, creative directors at fabric companies and TV production studios, quilt show coordinators, quilt guild program chairs, my fellow quilting teachers and most of all the dear quilters I met along the way. As you can see, you have touched my heart.
Not to worry, all is well. . . . it's just time for the next chapter. . .
And now onto my sewing/office and studio tour. I hope you will enjoy it!

Every time I see your name I think of a dear woman who babysat for my brothers and sisters and I many decades ago, and whose home we purchased as our first home. Her name was Alta Combs.

Thank you, thank you for this lovely tour. Congrats on your retirement, and if traveling is your desire, please don't wait. I retired from nursing in 2020 thinking I would love to travel, but it was not to be. Two complete hip replacements and diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis has kept me from traveling long distances, but that is ok as I have my quilting , embroidery and counted cross stitching to keep me "out of trouble".

One of my greatest joys is seeing someone in my classes accomplish something they don’t know they could do. I just love that.
It took my husband and myself about 2 months to figure out how to pivot to virtual teaching. While the marital was the same, the delivery was totally different. Many hours researching equipment, recording and editing step out videos, but it was worth it. I was really proud of our final result.
I do have a few Queen Hoops - only 1 wooden one and a few metal ones. I keep looking at antique shops and hope someday to find another wooden one. 😀

Thank you, Karen. I am always more interested than I have a right to be in what you, the flosstuber, is sitting opposite of. I imagine it to be where I would be sitting if we were face to face. I was so lucky to have met you sometime early 2000 Wichita KS quilt guild. I have admired your quilting style ever since. I retired two years ago to take care of my husband…Parkinson’s Lewy body dementia..he passed in March 😢Now I just keep stitching and quilting…thank you for sharing your wonderful videos with me🧵💕

Fabulous craft room! I envy the space. And who doesn’t have closets and drawers that aren’t in total disarray! My stitching closet is an absolute mess and I love it. Enjoy retirement and I sure hope that doesn’t include your floss tubes. I have been cross stitching and needlepointing for 40 years and still learn so much from you and for that I thank you.

Hi Karen! I was one of the Program Chairs who scheduled you for my guild in Rochester, NY. I took you to visit the George Eastman House while you were here. Before I drove you to the airport to head home, we stopped at Wegmans so you could have a nice dessert on the plane ride home.

Thanks for the sewing room tour! I have a larger sized Koala Cabinet and my leaf is up most of the time. I use mine for an older cutting mat that I now trim foams core board on using a box knife. I love that the sewing machine can be lowered and raised with a push lever 😊. My craft room would be much roomier if I had a closet setup like yours!

Aren't the Koala Cabinets wonderful?!? I've had mine 20 years, purchased at the Paducah AQS Show. They offered the shipping, the sewing chair and several inserts as a perk. Couldn't pass it up and have been loving it ever since.
I agree, love that the sewing machine can be lowered and an insert put in place to give even more area when needed.

I seem drawn to sweaters (just like I’m drawn to large samplers. 😂), but I also enjoy knitting scarves and cowls. I’ve made my Daughter-in-law several large cowls/shawls with Noro and she wears them all the time.
My Potoky is a mini, I’ve had it about a year. I love it and use it every time I stitch.

So happy for you!! You sweet lady need to have some fun and kick up your heels! You can still teach a block here or there on your TH-cam or Zoom if you miss it. Didn’t know you were an EPP fan. I’ve a Lucy Boston in process and a Swinging Old Lady on the future plans list. Sounds like we have more in common than I knew, so I just hope if you head east you can stop for a visit in Winston. I’d happily take you to lunch for all the inspiration you have given me on stitching and the studio tour which is helping me further plan mine. Monday they finish leveling the ground and then the building starts in July. I will be using your design wall idea for sure and that physicians folder holder for rulers. Lovely studio space!! Would you mind to share the make and model of the sewing table your Bernina is in? (I have a Bernina which I love but I know it would get far more use if it were in a proper table but it is overwhelming to choose besides you don't see it in a real space.)
It is a Koala QuiltMate III. I purchased it in 2004, not sure they are still made. I did purchase the insert for my. Bernina QE separately, in 3019.
